So i was leveling my marauder and I thought, hey i think it's time I get a new axe.

So i look online and see there's no better axes sold then the normal Weathered War Axe.
So I went lookin for an axe recipe, only to find out that every axe recipe (not only requires like 6 tradeskill classes) but they require an ingredient that doesn't even exist in game as far as anyone knows.

In order to make the Red Ochre Buffalo Leather Strap, needed for all the axe recipes, you need Red Ochre Buffalo Leather, but in order to make Red Ochre Buffalo leather, you need Red Ochre Buffalo Leather Dye.... yet the dye doesn't exist as far as any online site knows.

So far as I can tell there's no such thing as a better Axe.

Really lame, I guess wait till Retail or until someone magically finds this dye?

Lemme know if anyone figures out how to make a better axe and the ingredients required cause as far as I can tell, it's impossible atm.

(I think bronze axe "might" be possible but that's not better then the normal crappy axe, yet i bought the buffalo leather for 12k gil and it won't let me even turn it into the strap, even though I have the ingredients, so... i don't think making that is even possible)

Yeah, dyes are the biggest bummer for me so far in the crafting system as well. However, I have seen a number of equipment pieces that can only be made with dyed goods, so some people know how to make it -- probably jp people, which would explain why the info hasn't percolated over here yet. I have seen recipes for dye, the only problem is getting dye moss and dye bugs. I know they are harvested, but I don't know where, or what rank of harvest point you need to use, or what rank of Botanist you need before you can reliably get it. Until we have this kind of info, projects that require dye just don't seem worth it.

I was actually about to start a new post on this topic myself -- how long before Zam has a more complete database? So far, they're doing a good job of finding all the gear and inputting it into the system, but they're not doing much in the way of finding recipes, or where items drop. If we're stuck with this limited database on release, it seems like the game could get frustrating early on.

For many people, this is the appeal of a brand new game: there are no comprehensive guides to walk you through everything. The game will not have a complete database right away. People need to discover these things, and then share them with the community. If you want to play the game once all of this has been discovered so you can follow a guide or database, wait 6-12 months to play, because it will not be there right away.

It is the most appealing thing! It's not exploration if you're consulting a guide! d(^_~ )
