Are they working on the laggyness of the game?Follow

I've been playing the Open Beta recently and just cannot get past how laggy and inefficient the UI is in this game. The mouse pointer seems very slow and laggy. When I set my skills it takes a couple of seconds for them to set. It also seems redundant that we have to click so many times on things to activate them. Why can we not just click on a crystal and have the list and guildleves pop up instead of having to go through the menu and clicking accept 50 thousand times to start something.

Does anyone have the same thoughts about the sluggish feeling of the UI?

i agree, you have to do a lot of clicking just to do simple things.

hope they sort it.

I'll admit there is some notable lag to the UI and game in general, but mostly it stems from the poor UI layout. I would imagine I have an above average computer, with above average internet access, and there is still notable lag with certain interfaces. As you mentioned, there is a tremendous amount of redundancy in having to drill through multiple menus to accomplish seemingly simple tasks. The worst menu lag I've noticed is with equipping skills, I don't seem to have the mouse scroll delay that most others are experiencing.

My most personal dislike with the UI is with trying to sell items.. It seriously feels like it takes 10+ minutes just to sell of random loot from grinding.. now that's excessive. But most notably is the obvious combat command delay.. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I'm playing a turn based rpg where I have to wait a couple seconds before the actions take effect. (Just close your eyes and imagine that's the feel SE really wanted us to experience the game)

I'm trying to be optimistic that most of these "lag" issues will be resolved upon release, but as far as the UI, it's really hard to imagine them changing much in the near future. My point being, I don't think I've ever played an mmorpg that significantly changed the UI from beta to commercial release. Unfortunately, I'm going to wager that we're stuck with this menu setup.

For reference, I'm running an i7-920 at 4.0ghz and a hd 5870 with 16mb/s internet. And no.. I'm not cancelling my preorder.. lolz

They are making the lag on purpose, using very low server resources in order to test the limits of playability of the game.

You ppl keep forgetting that these is a BETA TEST, so they are testing stuff all the time. When the game goes out it will be on servers with 90% better capability and fully optimized. For now they need the things the way they are now so they can learn how to avoid major errors in the future.

Just remember that these is not the game, it's just a test.

There's a lot of lag because there's a lot of additional processes running to gather data for debugging purposes, so once those get killed it will definitely improve, but outside of server related data I don't experience any lag with the game itself.

When it comes to:

Actions - Server Lag
UI relations - Server Lag
"You cannot perform that action" type of messages - Server lag

Machine lag varies from Software Mouse performance to how you bog down in certain areas. It's pretty easy to figure out, but overall the game just needs optimization.

I lol'd at dragons post.. it's really silly how delusional some of you are.. always pulling out the "beta test" line.. how can you really be so sure? You're assuming just as much as we are.. the assumption that they are intentionally making the game lag has very little logic to it.. while the servers may not be running at full capacity, is there really any reason for them not to be? Isn't that the real purpose of a stress test? Even if we were to assume they aren't running at full capacity, server loads rarely go above 1000 on servers like Fabul, and I still experience lag throughout day.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge on how much of this is going to roll over into the actual game, despite this being just a "test", a lot of this playability is most likely going to carry over..

I play with a controller. It still took me 25 minutes to vendor my inventory the other day. When the idea of getting a new piece of gear or skill is depressing because you know you're gonna have to fight the UI to equip it, and then remake all your class macros to incorporate it correctly, there's something wrong.

At this point I'm cancelling my CE pre-order, but if it is indeed only beta issues and SE has a whole new different game with a working UI and some content, then I'll be more than happy to go get the normal edition a few days after launch. I want to like the game. I tried hard to like it. It didn't work but there's still hope :)

i do hate how long it takes to sell stuff to a vendor.

Also, i REALLy hope they make some sort of memory for class changes. i HATEHATEHATE adjusting my skills EVERYtime i want to switch my class. can you imagine if you were out killing stuff and wanted to gather stuff too. you'd have to switch back and forth and adjust your skills accordingly several times.

yeah the amount of confirmation steps involved is insane. I really wish they'd have one button buying and selling like WoW has, with/without the buyback option if you make a mistake.

as far as class changing, make a macro that equips your class's weapon and then sets the abilities. I believe its

/equip "Weathered Spear"
/eaction 2 "Heavy strike"
/eaction 3 "Skewer"
etc

honestly I can't remember. I haven't even logged into beta since I learned about it to try it out. Someone had posted how to do it a few days ago, and with luck, they'll fix mine with the proper lines too. the game manual when released should explain how to do it also.

arcaspiff - you need the / command to start the macro. /equip is for equiping gear. you then tell it where it needs to go. if its your main hand you would put type main. dont forget the quotes and dont forget to type it exactly as it reads in your inventory(capitalized letters in the right place?)

a complete macro for equipping your main hand weapon would be:

/equip main "Weathered Hora"

to equip actions and traits its /eaction and then you need to tell it which spot to load into 1-10 are the first lines. 11-20 are the 2nd lines. 21-30 are the third line of actions i believe. you also need to tell it which hand is doing said action. main or sub.

/eaction 3 "Concussive Blow" main

Like 3 months ago or so they made an announcement saying that were aware of the UI lag and would be fixing it shortly.

Not on purpose. Nice try though.
