the general consensus is that it's the worst of the starting areas due to leve placements and aggro and poisoning mobs...I will probably still start there but it would be nice to hear some good things about the city...hopefully

It is definitely the weakest of the 3 starting areas as far as leveling/grinding goes, but the scenery of the forest is awesome. The music is very creepy and fits well. I love the little streams + waterfalls throughout. About the only thing that sucks about the zone in my opinion is the lack of exploration compared to the other areas. Since its all closed in you are pretty much stuck to the main path with a few detours. Feels kind of like a maze..

The city is just like a forest based city.. lots of flowers and plants, but you're right.. the surrounding area is very bad for leves once you reach level 10 and higher.. some (well ALOT) of the leves are past some lone wolves.. (They're called lone wolves but they come in packs of 3 and 4...) And even at level 17 glad 25 phys, they're still a task for me in a group of 2 or more, but it seems near enough impossible to pull one away without pulling atleast another one at the same time.. my advice, start in uld'ah / limsa

Only problem I had with Gridania were the lvl 10 leves. The mobs were protected by lone wolves which was almost instant fail if you are solo. Like 5 wolves blocking narrow pathways lol. Still starting there tho!

:-( This sucks...while I'm a lover of Windy/Gridania I don't think I can put myself at such a disadvantage to start off the game...

Now to decide which I like better... LL or Ul'dah

If you liked sarutabaruta and tahringo, then the uldah zone is the exact same :)

Lone Wolves only appear in packs because no one kills them and they start to stack up. Just grab a good conjurer rank 10~11+ and have him kill them. All you have to do is put up shock spikes, and spam cure on yourself, using spirit dart when you're full hp. At rank 12 I don't die to them unless I lag or I get an extra one. They do hit quite hard though, and I could see other classes having a really hard time with them.

On top of the poor layout, lack of mobs, etc., I get ~15 fps less walking outside of gridania compared to limsa lominsa. Not sure what it is, but it's a lot more taxing on my PC and my framerate walking in the field is terrible because of it.

Ive lvled in all three areas and I like the feel of Gridania and the surrounding areas more than others, so im perfectly willing to put up with some of its disadvantages(which really arent that bad in the first place tbh) to be a proud Gridanian Smiley: wink

Just because you start in Gridania doesn't mean that you have to do your rank 10 leves there. You can teleport to Ul'dah and get leves from there.

There's no room for softness; not in Gridania. No place for weakness. Only the hard and strong may call themselves Gridanians. Only the hard. Only the strong. THIS. IS. GRIDANIA!
