Going into active mode damages equipment?Follow

I don't know if this has been mentioned or if anyone has noticed, so if it has been then disregard this.

I was out in the field killing stuff and I already had the yellow damage icon. After resting I target another mob, and not being anywhere near it, draw my weapon and I get the Heavy Damage warning. The mob didn't hit me and I hadn't landed a blow on it yet but my equipment still took some damage somehow.

So basically I'm wondering if anyone knows how the wear system works and if you do what are the factors that cause damage to equipment.

Maybe it is somewhat like the surplus system (le gasp) in that there is a amount of time that you can wear a piece of equipment for (i.e. be in active mode) until it starts to get damaged. Which would explain why underwear and stuff always seems to be in need of repair and weapons, less so as they tend to be switched around

The duriblity issue with this game is insane. I really hope they adjust it some. I understand the concept and agree with it. but teh degrade is soo fast. I can fully repair my gear and do 5-10 crafting, Makes half my gear 75% or lower.

How fast items degrade do any action is insane. Its liek a game of repair. Can really XP for hours, becuase you have to farm hours in order to have materials to repair a couple time :) then have the skill in many different crafts to repair.

Or let otehrs repir or the NPC. which = even less time out doing "fun stuff" Loving the game, deffinitly will be playing it for a long time. just wish they would lower the pace of degrade. Silly I have to repair my rings, earing becuase I used my sewing needle to make some cloth.

I wholeheartedly agree on the durability being an issue. Crafting is absurd when I just want to skill up and then my freshly repaired stuff is 50% again. I've gotten to the point where I unequip everything that doesn't affect crafting stats. It's a little annoying because I've gotten to the point of leveling like 4 crafts just to constantly repair stuff.

It's become less of doing leves and more of what monster can I kill for tons of shards to level crafts to repair stuff. :/ Btw incase you think you will just use the npc to fix stuff, think again. He charges tons to fix anything and doesn't take it to 100%.

I really hope that the wear system is not based on a timer, that would just add fuel to the fire.
I want people to play this game and I'm sure everyone here want this to be a great game, but they are making it too easy to cut this game down.
I really think they erred in their alpha/beta tester choosing if nobody has noticed this or if nobody brought up the fact that this may not be the best way to implement this and I can't see on the beta site forum if anyone has brought this up because it won't let me register and access those areas.
It's so important to have objective testing, as I've been playing I have seen a lot of things that need to be looked at that I can tell were overlooked by people who were treating this as a free demo.

Where does the durability issue come into play? I've leveled up to 12phyical/9lancer and found out at that time my durability on weapon was 50% gone and armor was 10% gone.

From the wiki's and stuff I found that weaving and 2 pieces of hempen fent (bought from npc) were enough to repair...
How fast is it going down for you???

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

In 1-2hrs I'm in yellow.
Also I'm only NPC fixing my equipment, which clears the damage icon and brings me to 75% but the time from yellow to red is really short.

A question to those who have had their gear badly damaged...

Were you equipping gear that was above your rank?
Also, were you grinding? Have you hit your surplus?

I'm thinking that gear too high for you will become damaged quicker. And in the reverse, gear that is much lower than the mobs you're fighting will become damaged far quicker.

So if you're fighting lowbie mobs in your starter rank 1 gear, it wont decrease very quickly. But if you're still using rank 1 year when you're fighting mobs in the mid-teens or higher, it would break down faster.

Also, perhaps as you get closer to surplus (or hit it), that increases the rate at which your gear will become damaged. It would be a further move to discourage speeding through the ranks. I've never hit the surplus though so I can only speculate on that.

No.

Yes, I am killing mobs one after another but I have not had any indication that I'm at surplus. I'm currently at class rank 12.

I am pretty sure it isnt timer based. But any action you take affects stuff. Any buffs I cast dmg my weapon I find. And since I am constantly rebuffing every so many minutes and curing (which I will assume also damages my weapon), as well as also beating on the mobs along side my friend, I find I am needing to repair at least 3 times as much as he is. (he is an archer).

Hit a nice lil thing today though around the same time I made this discovery (prob should go in a different thread). I killed a mob and the chat says I have killed 1000 mobs. Than my rank points turned yellow and I started getting bonus rank points to the sum of 10% of what I was already getting. Very nice indeed.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic but just to let you know, that's the "Surplus EXP" coming into effect...

If you wear gear thats not for your job IE: this gear favors these jobs and you are not one if those jobs. Or your gear is a Higher level then you are your gear will get damaged faster.
