ChatlogFollow

Now I don't even care if people criticize me and flame this thread by calling me a 'whiner' or whatever. I'm pointing out how arcane and pre-2000 this horrible chatlog is.
If you've got proof that SE will fix these things (or some indication they are still improving the chatlog), then provide the proof. Don't troll this thread simply because you 'think' they'll fix it. They haven't changed the chatlog since it's inception.

Yes, I will compare this chatlog to FFXI's because it was more advanced than this chatlog. I'm quoting this from a player below me:
Quote:
You've covered the main source of my confusion already, that is that SE seems to have completely ignored all of the things they learned from FFXI and started fresh, as if it was their first shot at an MMO.

Flamers and trolls, do understand that most of the frustration in players comes from the fact that SE implemented all of these things into FFXI over months of community complaints. But then they removed them from FFXIV, as if to restart the entire 'fixing' phase.
This is the main problem, as we cannot feel assured SE will re-fix these things in due time.

Furthermore, for the sake of this discussion:
I sincerely wish you do not bring up WoW.
Please do not tell us it will be fixed, when SE has shown no haste in the past for fixing things like this.
Do not tell us "its just a beta, it'll be fixed in seven days" if you have no reason to believe so.
Do not tell us to "stop crying" or "quit the game if you hate it so much"; it is rude and not appreciated.
Do not insult anyone who experiences strain after using the chatlog.
Do not act like this one issue ruins the entire game for us.
Do be constructive and understanding.
Thank you.

After much troll-avoiding -.- cause I'm too nice, here are my questions:

Why cant we:

-view the chatlog using a controller, like in ffxi?

-scroll through different chat tabs, like party, linkshell, etc like in ffxi and other MMOs? (We have to create these tabs on our own, which is fine, but we cannot access them via controller)

-see what the chatlog says in most bright environments due to the chatlog background being 100% transparent? (and why cant we change the background? so its not transparent?)

-change the text size, for those running higher resolutions who experience eyestrain?

-interact with the chatlog and click names, so we can easily blacklist gilseller-spammers, or /tell someone who's asking for help so we can provide help, or to add someone as a friend that you've been talking to, etc?

-when using a controller, must hit 'spacebar' to being typing. Also, must hit 'spacebar' before hitting control-p (or whatever) to begin typing to whomever.

AFAIK, the CTRL + [LETTER] commands work, but the chat window needs to be selected first.

Ah correct, and this works for replying too (control+r), thanks immensely. Will remove from list.

I still think that it should work though, without having to select the chatlog first.

I think it's something worthy of complaining about.

I consider myself a foolishly optimistic person by choice, as it makes life a lot more bearable as a general rule. That being said, I'm finding myself totally and completely baffled at the choices SE is making in the development of this game. I'm not angry, as I don't feel it serves a purpose, but definitely baffled. You've covered the main source of my confusion already, that is that SE seems to have completely ignored all of the things they learned from FFXI and started fresh, as if it was their first shot at an MMO.

I don't want the same game over again, so I'm not disappointed that they're trying new things. At the same time, it's sort of starting to feel like they just hired a bunch of interns and let them loose, then called it an SE game when it was done. For all of the flaws it has FFXI has progressed a good deal in the last seven years, and several very simple things that are in FFXI just do not appear in FFXIV. Things like intuitive controls; I would expect the controls to be more streamlined in the next generation of a title, not less. Things like storing the interface client side (to be fair, this may be purely a debugging measure and will change on release without any fuss); I was just playing FFXI earlier, when I started to get R0, and in desperation - well ok, boredom mostly - started flailing around in the menus when it suddenly struck me that the interface must be 100% on the client side, or I wouldn't be able to do that at R0. Obviously there are more examples, but you have covered most of them fairly succinctly.

I still hold on to my optimism, but at this point, it's less because I want to be optimistic, and more because I honestly cannot wrap my mind around why they would make so many totally off the wall decisions and therefore, due to logical dissonance, I convince myself I must be missing something.

Probably the most important thing that I didn't list: The game doesnt tell you when you /tell someone who doesn't exist (if you accidentally make a typo with their name) or if you /tell someone who is offline or otherwise unable to receive a /tell for whatever reason

The game doesnt say "user does not exist" or "message could not be sent" or "message could not be received by other player" or whatever

Hey :P I would but SE doesn't allow feedback, which is why people are posting their objective feedback here. But nobody likes it because it, in some way, hurts their feelings or something. I dunno, I don't understand this forum's community very well I suppose. As a FF fan I want the game to be the best it can be :c)

So let me get this right:

People who weren't in the closed beta can't access the dev forums (dev-eu.ffxiv.com) for feedback submission?

Yeah we can't access the dev forums to submit feedback, and there's no other way to be heard or see if the devs offer any support (even though it's common sense by now that SE doesn't tell their community anything)
