I am definitely going to hold on to my FFXI account till I get my FFXIV speedo boots...but will I retain the FFXI after that, frankly I am not too sure. Too much memories with my character (Thargor,PLD75 Ragnarok)....

Should I or Should I Not? Will you?

I've pondered this myself, but for me, I just will not feasibly have time to do both. School is just too demanding and playing one will be difficult enough as it is. I've still got XI active now, but will probably deactivate after this month and go back during the Christmas holiday or something like that. I of course won't delete my characters or anything, it's always nice to have the option to go back, but I'm not going to pay for something I won't use either.

I kissed my character good bye since the announced the raise of the level cap, but I kept my account, after the actual update which brought it to 80, I simply got disappointed about the game and the way the company is handling it.

Abbysea is fun... I guess, but the jobs updates are out of control, ninja patches everywhere (the summoners mp conservation cost raising was a really low blow, even if they decided to fix it later) and to give the killer shoot they annihilate RDM tanking.

I will reactivate for the hermes sandals and cancel it right away.

My account is still active, I will also probably de-activate for October. Lots of people feel the game has been rejuvenated for them with Abyssea, but I don't know. You're constantly leveling up now, I feel the updates are coming too fast (obviously, others feel it's probably too slow). Magian trials are painful beyond anything, you waste tons of time for a weapon that's slightly better than it's predecessor. It just feels as if the rest of the world doesn't exist anymore, you're constantly in Abyssea for NM's, gear, exp. Sure you Magian it in other zones, but like I said, that's painful to begin with. Lower level exp parties are limited to MMM and Birds in East Ronfaure [S].

Let's face it too, an abyssea party is really only worthwhile if you have a few hours to spend, otherwise, exp ain't that great. Try getting a merit party together though, it ain't happening. I don't know, I guess you can low man a ton of stuff now, but it feels as though the game has become a huge grind beyond what it was, I didn't think that was possible. I guess if you can suck it up until 99 and have all your SJ's leveled, then great, but then what? Constantly hunting Abyssea zones for NM's? Or will they add new content?

Ever since abyssea ffxi has been circling the drain. Took a look at the new armor through magian trials... the gear is ridiculous... warrior ends up with like 25% double attack in three pieces.

They took all the achievement out of having whatever jobs at level cap and now the only gear that will matter is gonna take a **** of a long time grinding the new zones... So **** ffxi. I'll just sit in town with my full usukane til i get my speedboots then i'll kill my account.

I took a break from the game for school, and was planning on going back but decided not to when they announced the level cap and other ****. I was enjoying +1ing all my gear and skills and etc. I did not want to go level my main job and all my sub jobs again. :(

Exactly how I feel. It's like for years you try your best to be the best and suddenly one day, they tell you that you are not good enough anymore. If this happens in the first 2-3 years of the game, it's still not that bad. But no no...they do that YEARSSS after and with FFXIV coming.

Better gameplay or not besides the point, it's just bad planning and insensitive to how their loyal long time player base feel.

I was a big fan of the Rise of Zilart. Chains of Promathia is a good expansion: I just liked RoZ better, personal preferences, really.

I started losing interest with ToAU, Wings of the Goddess didn't really do anything for me, and when they moved to the 'mini expansion' model, I didn't bother to play much longer. I did 2/3 of their first bout of mini-stories, never returned for the level cap increase or these new abyssea expansions.

So--to get to the point--I will not hold onto my FFXI account.

I will be holding onto my FFXI account ... long enough to get my movement speed boots. I have a lot of fond memories of FFXI, and still miss it from time to time, but 6 years was enough. I feel the same when it comes to ToAU. I feel that expansion single-handedly initiated the decline of the the game, and more so the skill levels of many players. Pink birds, my God they're everywhere! Then WoTG came out, so you can spam pink birds from 37-75+ ... and don't get me started on abyssea. I got the first one and took my jobs to 80, and witnessed level 30 players opening boxes and going from 30-80 in the span of like 10 hours. Now I hear you can solo like 20k+/hr easy in a new thing called bastion.

That game is no longer the FFXI I have a place in my heart for. ****, I sound like some old guy sitting on my front porch yelling at kids about how tough it was when I was their age. *hobbles off with cane in hand*

To be honest, I quit playing for the last time when my endgame linkshell split up months before the server merges. I briefly resubbed during the merges, but being forced to change my name and trying to reconnect with the people I used to know made me unsub again and I haven't played since.
My account is still sitting there, but I'm not sure if I'd even want to pay for a month just to get the Hermes shoes in FFXIV.

Absolutely.

I'll be playing XIV far more casually than I play XI. I never made XI into a job, so for me it's always been a matter of logging in whenever I feel like it, not because I "need" to; a habit I plan on continuing with both XI and XIV. Many of my close friends from XI will not be playing XIV, and a shiny new game loses some of its appeal when my friends (some of whom I literally grew up with - started playing XI when I was 14, and I'm 21 now) aren't around.

I certainly won't be. I had a good run with FFXI but quit a year ago due to a personal conflict that heavily involved the game. I gave up 20-30 million gil worth of possessions and I don't really care to go through the effort again, even if FFXIV did not exist. I did reactivate my content ID for the hermes shoes, but it will be cancelled thereafter (unless my little sister wants to take her over as a mule or something).

I would honestly still be playing XI right now if i could have got my character back a few years ago, but it seems its data was long deleted, or i didnt have the right billing info to bring it back in the return home thing. However i probably would have parted ways with the release of XIV if I had ended up getting it back.

I'm still bitter over losing Pikko's name, but for now I'm still keeping the account for work purposes. The discount will really help and I need to cancel my mule content IDs. At least I know that I'd get to keep their names until the sun burns out, no matter how much I stopped caring about the game. *bitter*

Are you guys saying the game is easier now?
I wouldn't have minded for the game to be more lax on the XP rate. But then again I understand some challenge should be involved. Can some one link where the changes are. I haven't played in months.

Nope. I need the more casual options for advancement nowadays. Too many kids.

I have a 75 SAM Galka and 75 BLM Taru, camped in their favorite spots for all time.

FFXIV all the way and not looking back.

I lost my interest in ffxi awhile ago due to my available playtime getting so low and my character having such a hardcore history, it was just depressing. That and the announcement of XIV was the final straw.

I thought about reactivating my acct for the shoes but then gotta pay 2 months subscription since they double bill you upon reactivation.

I am keeping my character for now but I am so disappointed with the Abyssea crap I have never been so bored in my whole FFXI life. I tried it but it's a grind of mammoth proportions, what a truly mediocre ending to what I thought was an epic game.

**** yeah. I'm just not sure if I'll hold onto my FFXIV account. Right now FFXI is by far the superior game.

I am canceling ffxi once I get the boots. To try and keep up in both games would not be possible. And the level cap increases have really turned me away from XI. I mean I was so glad when I hit 37 NIN and could retire that SJ, never to touch it again...... until they increased the cap. Now all of a sudden I have to go re-gear a bunch of jobs I never planned to play again? I also found Abyssea to be kinda repetitive and not all that "new" feeling. I will always love FFXI but, for me at least, there is no looking back once FFXIV is released.

As much as I loved XI and I mean loved more than any game I've ever played, the day I tried to get back into it recently and found out my Hagun was worth 200kish and Hauby's were selling for as much as a stack of crystals was the day I totally made my peace with XI. I would much rather remember it as I did when I 'quit for good' the last time lol

I'll get my shoes and its full steam ahead for XIV from then on :)

If I could stick with 11 over 14 I think I would. But sadly, thanks to the banhammer issue so long ago and having to be paranoid now at everything I do just to PLAY the darn game, it really takes a lot of of the fun of FFXI. So unless they do that to 14 as well, I will probably abandon all hopes of 11. (And from what I am getting from what SE says about my account and not being able to remember a phone number from two years ago, I may be forced to to that anyway)

I quit FFXI over two years ago, but I still kept my account out of nostalgia I suppose. At least now it serves a purpose other than being something that's just sitting there. I'll probably reactivate it to get the boots and then put it back on the shelf again.

Is that correct? If I reopened my FFXI account for this month (for the Hermes shoes in FFXIV) and got the Collector's Edition and the code or whatever for the shoes and cancelled before the end of the month, I'd just be paying for September, right?

It's been a while since I played FFXI and I can't remember how their shenanigans work, aside from the "We'll charge you for a full month, even if you subscribe at the end of that month" silliness.

Whether or not you're double billed depends upon when you reactivate as far as I remember. If you wait until the very start of the billing period they shouldn't double bill you, but if you wait till the tail end of the current period you'll get stuck with two chargers. I used to reactivate my account (and then cancel it) every once in a while so they would retain my data on the servers and I've never been double billed except for once.
