2 Weeks into OB, The Game is really coming into its ownFollow

Clearly I'm loving the game, but now that I have almost 2 weeks of play time under my belt, I feel that the game is really coming into its own for me, and becoming very very enjoyable.

- Leves: after Rank 15, I can solo all the Rank 20 leves, run to all 3 cities and fill up my 8 leve quota with all of these, punishing barb the mobs to death. Not only is it fun, it's great money compared to the lower level leves. And now that I have LS members who have reached 20, I'm really looking forward to seeing the Rank 30 leves
- Equip: having done all of the Rank 20 leves multiple times, I have all the equip you can get at this level. And this morning, at a random high level party camp, I found someone selling a rank 30 afton for 100k. Did not hesitate before buying, and now I'm so happy to look at my character because she looks so pimping! Can't wait for the other gears to come.
- Crafting: after stumbling a bit, I finally figured out the crafts I want to take up and how to read that orb glow for better crafting success.
- Partying: had my first real EXP party with LS buddies last night, the party exp system clearly needs tweaking, but it was really fun. We were killing mobs left and right, the exp coming in like buttah. When you're in the flow, it just feels right.

I'm sure most of you don't care about this. But I thought I wanted to share because I was so happy this morning, waking up to all the things I want to do in game today. So consider this my happy thread! And hopefully that will rub off on some of the doom and gloomers around here.

I know exactly how you feel. I want to play every day, but I'm torn because I'm going to lose my character on the 19th. Here's looking forward to the 22nd!

I've been somewhat forcing myself to try crafting lately and I'm starting to like it a little bit more. Like most things, good results = more enjoyment and I'm getting better at it. Though I think I've had my fill of the pre-game tuneup and am ready for the real thing now...

OP unknowingly just proved that mixing magic and melee classes is a good idea. As rank 15 PUG there are a few rank 20 leves that just destroy me. If I had cure or shock spikes or punishing barbs or stoneskin I'd be able to solo them easy, even with my level 1 hora.

I totally agree, though. Once you get passed the 'omg there's nothing to kill too many people farming aaah!' at the beginning and the boringly easy level 1-10 leves, the game really takes off. And grouping up, while the exp system DOES need help, is still MUCH better xp than solo. Usually 300 physical and class xp per mob for me in a group, and closer to 150 physical and 50 class per mob solo.

It's nice to see a happy post like this! I feel the same way as you. I haven't gotten as far leveling as you, but I'm learning each time I play.

I never played Final Fantasy games before, so this is a whole new thing for me. I guess if you've played the XI one you might have a little better understanding of the workings, but unfortunately, I don't have that experience.

Sometimes I get frustrated because I try to figure something out but can't seem to quite get it, then each day I learn something new and go "Oh yeah, so THAT'S how it works . . ." and then things are so much more fun!

I'm loving this game, and as much as I hate to say goodbye to my beta character, I can hardly wait for September 22 to have the actual game! Playing the beta has quelched my fears of whether or not I'd be happy playing in this game's playstyle and also helped me to learn enough that once I get in the real game, I won't be so lost and frustrated. I'm sure I'll still be learning new stuff, but it wont take up all my time once the real game starts. Thats one of the great things of being able to use the beta - to get myself used to the game play.

Have fun you all!

I have never found an MMO where I enjoy the crafting system before, however I love it in this game. I haven't tried them all out yet (Done some Blacksmithing, Goldsmithing to repair my Hora, as well as Fishing and Mining) but I've definitely enjoyed it so far. I really really like the fishing especially. MNK was my highest job in FFXI so my first choice for the beta was Pugilist. I just got it up to rank 8 today and learned Seismic Shock and I'm really enjoying it, definitely not cancelling my preorder.

Agreed on fishing. I LOVE the fishing in this game. Mining and Herbology are actually pretty cool also. I still haven't gotten the hang of most of the crafting yet.

Ditto on the crafting. I have just as much fun working on leatherworking as I do beating things in the face with my pugilist. Actually for the past 3-4 days i've done nothing BUT focus on crafting. Fishing has been fun as well, especially after closed beta where it seemed much more difficult to get the initial hook.

I hear ya OP!
I want to be on all the time as well, but then I feel a bit strange because all this progress will be gone in a week.
So I keep levelling a class up to 10, then trying something different on my Lala.
Thru this I've been able to find that I like the Thaumaturge the most. I'm going to try some more of the DoW classes to see if there's a spark. I haven't tried archer yet... is it expensive.
I see the arrows are 3 gil each I think it was at an NPC. How many do archers generally go through?

I've only been in the Beta since the very end of Phase 3. (Thanks ZAM!) What I've seen in this short time is a great amount of improvement across the board.

I think that the changes made to the base battle speed during Phase 1 had some domino-effects on many other things that are just now being fully worked out.

I've noticed that alot of people that use a controller or far more happy with the game over-all. To test this, I used just the mouse and keyboard one night (for about 30 mintues). Ok! Ok! I get it. The mouse and keyboard fans are not happy with good reason.

Can I suggest, respectfully, that everyone at least give a controller a try?

After 4+ years of playing FFXI with mouse and keyboard one of my good JP friends told me, "If you try a controller you will never go back." This turned out to be completely accurate.

+1 all around for a positive threat for once! All this doom and gloom have really gotten me down over the last couple of days.

Every minute I've spent in FFXIV have been enjoyable even though my Computer hardly runs the game. The best time was leveling PUG in phase 2 when I finally got Second wind and the whole combo of Evasion, haymaker and second wind-ing made for some cool fights against dodos :)

only 6 months to go ! .. \(T_T)/

Yeah after getting my goldsmith to 13 I am now trying out other crafts - AND learning things which will help me after the grand ole character wipe that is coming up here.

I know I'll waste a lot less gil crafting up things with the knowledge I've gained - and I will be sure to take more advantage of those 8 local leves we are given access to...

I would like to get my Con high enough to solo some level 20 leves - or find someone to duo them with me - but that may not happen this round. However - I know that it - WILL happen after release. It will be fun. I'm excited.

I tried starting as an Archer in phase 3, Didn't work out too well since I ran out of arrows after 1 leve and had to chuck rocks at monsters for 1 dmg and I had no money to get new arrows ( cheap ones are 1 gil each t hough). I might try it again in retail after getting some more cash in my virtual wallet.

A lot but 3 gil isn't really much... at least in my world. Do a level 10 leve solo and you get enough gil for a whole crapton of stacks of them

Archer isn't really very expensive.. and considering. they are the strongest class I have played yet. < played them all to 10+ . Archer just rocks the damage and accuracy vs any other DoW. Goes through arrows fairly quick. but the price is cheap compared to the sellable loot you get.

Yes I'll be 0 in a week. But this learning will enable me to get back to 15 or 16 (just leveled last night in party, woot!) in half the time,:)

Run through the main quest first thing! You end up with 30,000 gil and you only need to kill about 5~6 mobs during the escort portion. These mobs have <50 HP.

Haven't you found "Epiphany" to be awesome?!? I love using that ability. It's almost a guaranteed quality boost of 40-70 points.

Can you mix and match crafter abilities?

Seems like using the Alchemist's ability to have of a synth bonus based on INT would be handy if you are a Conjurer main, no matter what you're crafting.

Most crafter abilities are "DoH and DoL only", while most DoW and DoM abilities are "DoW and DoM only".

Olorinus,

Have you equipped the ability?

You may want to setup a macro for Goldsmithing so that your available abilities are equipped with your synth tools.

Yeah I have... but it still doesn't appear. Oh well not too worried about it atm. I'll check it out again tonight.

Wish I could have joined in, in the EXP party. :(

I probably wont have enough time for a proper party until actual release though, but then many parties will be had!

Also, Rank 30 Afton?? What the heck is that?

I, too, agree about the crafting. I think this system adds a lot of depth and a stronger sense of accomplishment. If we can just get rid of the lag, it will be magnifico!

The crafting abilities just appear randomly when your crafting. You'll only see a littler arrow in your crafting choices though, you have to scroll down to it. I saw mine right after i equipped it though, then it was gone again after i used it for a few synths.

I haven't come across any spells that are not equippable on DoW... the only limit I see atm is AP - heck I can barely fit 1 nuke and 1 debuff on my conjurer with the other skills I need (Cure, stoneskin, shockspikes, radiance, sacrifice)
