I was searching through the site and found this, "Disciples of War will be able to equip a broad range of weapons, such as swords, spears, axes, katana, daggers, bows and more", under the Armory System menu. My question is, will there really be katanas in the game? If so, is that gonna be a new class? :D

Probably will be in the game and probably won't have a class tied to it or will be given to Gladiators. For example:

Gladiators can equip daggers (which are short swords yeah) but daggers were generally given to a thief/assassin type class.

I'm betting on a new class eventually.

There will be more disciplines - that has been confirmed in interviews (and makes sense given that it is a good way to keep people playing)

Right now there is a musketeers guild, an arcanist's guild and a bard guild already there and sitting around empty in game.

It wouldn't be too crazy to expect a ninja and a samurai class in the near future

In the uldah opening, one of the NPCs you fight with has a tiny hidden-dagger type of weapon (like a pocketknife) which will likely be the thief-weapon we see in the future.

So there definitely are plans by SE to implement new weapons

Isn't the guy with the dagger a bard, though?

Not really. They may call him a bard, but 'bard' simply means a normal dude who works for an honest wage in social venues (for the most part). You'll see 'bard' thrown around in this game a lot, as well as in past FF games and other fantasy games, for that matter, like Dragon Age.

I don't think they'll add another 'thief' class in FFXIV. I say 'another' cuz we already have the 'Pugilist'. Pugilist has both evasion AND steal ability.

And one more question I’ll throw Rora’s way, Rozes from the FFXI Cerberus server asks, "Do you think more classes will be announced?"
Rora’s answer: Definitely. Data miners have already found some evidence of additional classes such as the Disciple of Magic Arcanist. While I know nothing is official until it's official, this indicates SE have already kicked around ideas for a number of upcoming classes. All disciples will probably get more classes as the game expands, but it certainly seems like the DoW and DoM classes have more room for growth. For example, a mere two mage classes isn't very FF-ish. On the other hand, the DoL and DoH classes already announced seem to encompass well the typical gathering/crafting possibilities.

SE has alluded to the fact they're currently working on content for the first expansion. My personal belief is that, at the very latest, people could reasonably expect new classes would be added with this first expansion, which is planned for release roughly a year after the game launches this fall. Some new classes may be released in a patch subsequent to release and prior to an expansion, perhaps around the time that FFXIV launches on the PS3, presumably this coming spring. I think it would be a good decision on their part to throw the community something at this point, but I suppose that will hinge largely on how much work SE has to focus on building a working PS3 version as opposed to being able to focus on new content.

Then look here:

Fencer, Enforcer, Sentinel, Musketeer, Samurai, Stavesman, Assassin, Flayer, Mystic, Arcanist, Bard, Shepherd are all at least on the table for implementation.

Some are indicating that classes may be added either at release, as a surprise, or even in an update before the first expansion. My guess is **** no, they will include the additional content in an expansion package.

Adding one or two classes at release wold be a pretty good move to get people talking about something positive.

Steal was removed from pugilist once beta3 started (Strangely). And there's a lot more thief-type classes can offer than evasion and stealing.
That's like saying we wont see a samurai-like class just because Lancer has the TP-gaining moves. :)
Yet this thread is about katanas. See what I mean? SE has something up their sleeves

They did note there was a good chance they would add another magic class in a patch vs. an expansion.

Here's hoping.
