Possible Solution to XI + XIV bootsFollow

Okay so I bought XI because of the boots in XIV but apparently there is no way to speed up the free trial period in XI. I was thinking what would happen if I canceled my subscription now and then re-activated it would that cancel out my free trial period? This way when I get the game on the 22nd I can immediately get my hermes shoes?

I'm not sure I would worry about getting the Hermes boots right away because I think they have a 35 physical rank requirement, so you wouldn't be able to use them right away anyway.

Your plan might work, I'm just not sure.

Won't work.

Because when you close your ID's in FFXI, you can still play until the end of the month, when billing is processed. So one way or another your account will show as "trail mode" until the end of the month. So if you want those shoes the only way will be to wait until you're eligible for the offer to start playing, which could be a while..

BUT , you'll lose nothing by trying, so go ahead. Really though this offer is for loyal FFXI players, so I'm not too sad if you can't con yourself some shoes in the end.

Speaking of boots, has anyone notices Square's fascination with them? It's almost like a fetish. I noticed the other day that all the main characters in FFXIII wear boots, including Serah.

EDIT: Actually I guess Serah's are more like Converse high-tops now that I look closer... meh.

I have been a current subscriber to FFXI for 6 years, so I'm not worried about the boots, since I'll get them when I get them. But I can understand how people are scrambling to get a subscription going now, so they too can benefit from the bonus promotion. I'm not sure if any of us will get the boots on Day 1 anyway. Wasn't part of the promo was to have an active account in both FFXI and FFXIV? Technically, none of us will meet that requirement since the first month of play in FFXIV will be counted as free, right?

Off topic: Now I've been wondering, will Durability affect our bonus items? I'd hate to have to constantly repair my Helm/Armbands/Shoes as much as I have to repair all my normal gear. Just a thought...

I would like to think that special items such as the boots and bands would not lose durability, as they are gifts from Square and intended for prolonged use. But, then again I also thought Santa was real for a while there so who knows.

I might reactivate my FFXI account after I link it to my FFXIV account, so that way I only have to pay $7 for that month of FFXI, and I can get Hermes boots.

I just feel strange about doing that because its like paying $7 for an in game item (cash shop), when I already pay a subscription anyway.

Actually, a good idea might be to wait until after the retail release when other people are running around in Hermes boots, to get an idea from them how worthwhile the item is. If they are running around the cities at >50% speed and there is no other way to get that kind of speed increase, you can be sure I'm reactivating my FFXI account for those!

First of all I might be trying to con SE by getting the boots quicker but by no means is the boots for FFXI's loyal players. It is simply a marketing ploy to try and get people to play both games or keep XI players from leaving the game.
Second of all SE boot fetish seems reasonable except that hermes boots are actually hermes shoes in FFXIV.
Third thing is that you need be paying for XI's subscription not FFXIV meaning you will get the shoes when game launches.
Also you get the shoes when create your characters in XIV. So for every character you create while linked each one will get the untradable boots. As for lv req. there probably is none since the other exclusive items where meant to be used in the beginning and useless towards middle game. This is why my dilemma is get boots when game launches or delete character when trial period is up and start a new main for shoes.
BTW- I also hope that the items won't need to be repaired, or at least not as much.

It's specifically stated the boots are added to inventory upon character creation, therefore they will be available from day 1 to those that have a long standing FFXI membership at FFXIV launch.

I don't need to say anything, you contradicted your own point. They absolutely are intended to lure FFXI players to FFXIV, not sell more FFXI copies. Otherwise there would be no minimum playtime to the offer.

Actually it's pretty well known that the minimum rank on Hermes' Shows is 38. So unless SE changes it before retail comes out, it will be 38.

Here is the link in zam's item database that gives stats on this item:
http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/item.html?ffxivitem=8080512

Just note, that it doesn't list the speed increase effect, but it's probably going to be a hidden effect!

Also note it does list "wear" numbers, so I'm guessing they will wear down and need to be repaired like any other item.

If that's their goal they need to quit improving XI so much or fix the concerns with XIV in a hurry. After a few weeks with XIV, I went back to check out XI's latest update and can't bring myself to log back into XIV. I'm sorry but XI is just the superior game at the moment, and I can't see XIV closing the gap any time soon.

Intending to lure FFXI players and give them an exclusive item would mean that SE still listens and cares for their fans.
This must obviously be your delusion because SE is now a money hungry company scampering for any way that they can make an extra buck. Why else would they also be updating XI with a new expansion instead of focusing on XIV? Why else would they release FFXIII on Xbox 360 for Japan after telling fans that they wouldn't? The money. In Japanese-Okane o Dase!
Give me your money!!!
