Saw this today: http://www.techsurf.com/2010/09/13/new-gaming-mouse-from-final-fantasy-xiv/

It says available this month, but I can't find anywhere to buy it yet. Seems a little strange when there are so many mouse complaints. =\

Computers are all about expansion and customization. With nearly all FPS the correct tool for the job is a mouse and keyboard. With FFXIV I firmly believe (from what we've been provided so far) that the right tool for this job is a ps3/xbox type controller. (2 sticks and a hat).

It's a cute collectors item, but I don't know if I would classify any wireless mouse as a *gaming* mouse. I certainly wouldn't pay 50 bucks for it. My Razer Naga was what, just 20 more and that's a true gaming class mouse.

Why isn't there a Final Fantasy edition Ps3 controller? Now THAT I would buy.

I just think its funny they are selling a branded version of a tool their game uses so poorly. You would think they would sell a FFXIV gamepad.

I personally cant stand using a ps3/xbox/console controller in general for MMO's, it just doesnt feel right. I dont mind putting up with the bit of mouse lag as long as i can still use it, but what i would really want is the option to use keyboard only *cough* arrows to control camera *cough*.
I know other people see otherwise, it would just be nice for them to optimize for both.

I've still got my fingers crossed that fixing up key bindings and such isn't high on the beta client priority list and these fixes make it to the release client. I'd much rather play with just the keyboard like in FFXI but after finally giving the controller a try it wouldn't hurt my feelings that badly. It only takes a few minutes for that "this is wrong" feeling to go away.

Oh wow now THAT'S nice. I can't really understand the descriptions though - some of it seems really broken translation.

I wonder if we will see any of this stuff in the states - seems like it's just Japan from what I'm reading.

All right, now I can be frustrated at poor mouse controls with an official FFXIV mouse!

Meh, the design looked just okay to me...they could've done more than just putting "FINAL FANTASY XIV" on the controller and keyboard and mouse. Maybe a screen print (not sure the exact term) of the actual logo.

...Guess I'm not such a die-hard fan after all. -_-;;;

Thats so ironic.
Branding a mouse after a game that doesn't have hardware mouse support....

Now aside from the possible mouse lag that some of you are experiencing, why are so many of you diehard controller fans? Personally, I'm a firm believer that keyboard+mouse is generally better than a controller for almost every application, much in the same way pc > console.. Along with what Zidaga said, playing any sort of FPS on a controller is just senseless..

I suppose the concept I'm trying to understand is.. why do you guys like controller more than keyboard+mouse? I can't imagine any scenarios where the controller gives you better control over the situation or UI, but feel free to enlighten me. Surely the controller has some obvious limits in combat? Is it really possible to use every skill on your action bar quickly and effectively, as well as using quick macros and etc where these actions are normally performed via keyboard?

btw Zidaga, I do believe you can use the keyboard exclusively if you chose to. IJKL, the arrow keys, and numpad all have their purposes.. and if I'm not mistaken, IJKL can change camera angles, although I still much prefer the mouse..

I possibly buy the controller so that I don't have to tie up my PS3 controller all the time.

The keyboard looks handy with that spot for the authenticator. But I don't need a Japanese keyboard at the moment. Still wrapping my head around Hiragana.

Mouse isn't as interesting, I have a Logitech MX1000 and have used it for several years. Still love it.

Speakers would only interest me if I cant work out how to stop my current speakers from making a popping sound every now and then.

It is specially branded with FFXIV because it is the only mouse that has the special hardware mouse token installed. It uses hardware mouse code that was built in to the game but isn't active without the special security token.

(Yes this is a humor post. Or is it?)

Those all seem like cheap cash grabs to me, minus the keyboard with security token...

I'll stick to my G19 and G9 for gaming, if I ever want a FF mod I'll glue my token next to my lcd or something.

I guess I might buy those (because I'm suseptible((sp?)) to cash grabs) and put them in a box.

When they recently said that they would enable a hardware mouse, this is what they meant.

Sorry for the double, but I noticed something really impressive about that gamepad:
"AUTO by pressing the center button while pressing the other, it can take advantage of fire."
FIRE.
That's it. I'm getting one.
