ive been reading up as much information on all the jobs over the last 4-5 weeks , i really want to start as a Main DD but cant really make my mind up to which job is going to be best ? im thinking Ranger/archer because that was my main on FFIX but im in two mind because of the cost of buy arrows and equipment , also thinking of marauder but i dont know if ill like the slow attack speed because of the axe or even lancer which doesnt sound like a all out DD .... Arrhhh too many to pick . Im picking a hyur highlander which seem to have the biggest starting Str .

Whats going to be the best all out DD job ?

It kind of depends on what my wife plays. I'm probably going to be a Hellsguard Roegadyn Gladiator or Marauder though.

I can't really tell you which is the best DD job, but I can share my experience on Pugilist, Marauder and a little bit Lancer with you.

I started as a Pugilist as my first DD class in both beta 3 and open beta. When I'm playing my Pug, I would run my char to the back of the mob while attacking it and when the mob turns to me and before it perform its attack, I'll try to move to its back again. In a way I think physically moving the char to the mob's back would increase the evasion rate, I maybe wrong, but that's how I feel. Also, blasting my Concussive Blow from the mob's back seems has higher successful rate.

When I played my Marauder, on the other hand, I would just stay in front of the mob. Since Marauder has a front aoe (affect mobs in front of you in a cone shape) regular attack and an aoe special attack (all the mobs around you), I would usually put 2~3 (depends on the mob's level) and kill together.

When I played my Lancer, I would say she kills faster than Pug (my Lancer was only rank 8, so it maybe different in the future), but now as strong as Marauder because I can't link 2~3 mobs at the same time. Their only aoe skills before rank 8 would be Skewer, which I learned it at rank 2, it'll hit 2 mobs in front of you.

If you want to play DD class, I would suggest you start as a Pug or Marauder, because you could get Second Wind (self heal) at Pug rank 6 and Bloodbath (self heal, amount based upon your next successful attack) at Marauder rank 6. With these two healing abilities, it's so much easier to start a new DoW class.

I think both Pug, Marauder and Lancer had pretty good dps and soloing abilities, but I wouldn't level just one at a time because the mix and match of abilities from different classes really helps. I usually bring a Pug weapon, Marauder weapon and Lancer weapon, then when my Pug weapon's durability gets to 50% or below, I'll switch to Marauder, then when it gets to 50% or below, I'll switch to Lancer. When all weapons gets 50% or below, I'll go back to town, either repair them or replace them. (I'm only using rank 1 weapons I bought from vendor)

Everyone has 80 slots to carry gears and loots, shards and crystals are putting in a separate bag. Since my rank is still very low, I only have one set of gears for ALL classes, so all I did was get a weapon for each of the class I want to play and a set of tools (main hand and off hand) for the DoL and DoH classes I want to play. When I was farming shards to do crafting, I could farm for a couple of hours before I get my bag full. So for now, I think I have enough space for my gears and loots.

I have not yet try an Archer.

archer is fun. Also it is the only DoW job that I know of that you can buy upgraded weapons from a vendor in beta. In retail there may be more upgraded weapons available - but who knows.

and it is a bit expensive to have to shoot gil from your bow but not too bad.

Red Mage - Hyur Midlander - who can self repair equipment

(Lancer/Conjurer/Blacksmith/Armorer)

I guess to be a true Red Mage I should use a sword instead of a lance.

A few things to consider for DD:

Lancer: Weapon has highest Attack, highest Accuracy, high Parry and lowest Critical. Has a skill attack that cost minimal TP and Stamina after the enemy Evade.

Pugilist: Weapon has lowest Attack, High Accuracy, Highest Parry and highest Critical. Has a skill attack that cost minimal TP and Stamina after the Pugilist Evade.

Marauder: Weapon has high Attack, lowest Accuracy, lowest Parry and high Critical. Has a skill attack that cost minimal TP and Stamina after Marauder Parry and despite having lowest Parry out of all three, Marauder has a substantial Parry boost from Steadfast to make up for that.

I would NOT consider cross-classing Second Wind or Bloodbath outside their native class (Pugilist and Marauder). Reason being they cost a large chunk of stamina for minimal return, with 2nd Wind on a Lancer perform at 50% compared to 2nd Wind on a Pugilist, Bloodbath on a Lancer leech 50% hp while Bloodbath on Marauder leech 75% hp. There are skills sold at Guild that improve your respective class skill affinity 10% per level, up to 100%. Aassuming that a Lancer fully equip this skills, can use Pugilist or Marauder skills as good as those class, it's still very costly to purchase and equip these skills, not to mention weapon damage type.

So far, the best cross-class skills I have found for DD is Ferocity and Raging Strike. They cost minimal TP and their penalty seems to be only extra cool down time.

In Beta I have rank 16 Lancer, rank 10 Pugilist, rank 10 Marauder and rank 10 Archer. In release I will stick to Lancer and Archer with a Sunseeker Miqo'te.

I really liked second wind on my lancer until I tried Cure. I think Lancer has a high MP rating too, or maybe that was just my race.

It's kind of funny that everyone talks about classes now like they know how each one works. In all reality the beta only went to lvl 30, and most people probably didn't get a class past 20. With the launch version having 50 levels we really haven't seen anything. I suppose you can go off of the skill lists in the wiki though, but they don't go to into detail.

The one thing I would add to this discussion is, I wouldn't worry about the cost of playing Archers. I know the worry is in the back of your mind because of FFXI where jobs like Ranger and Ninja were nearly impossible to play if you weren't already sitting on a goldmine. I admittedly haven't gotten very far with Archers myself, but this game seems like you should be able to support yourself.

Hyur, but no idea what class.

I like pugilist visually but I hate their on-evade moves (can't select fast enough when using a controller like i do).
I like archer but, like in most mmos, i choose not to play them due to the feeling that im paying per attack :P Plus their accuracy is horrendous so far, I'll wait for SE to implement a patch fix

I like conjurer but I dont really look forward to getting gear for them. I never have much fun getting new robes and cloth shoes and wooden staves, etc. :P its silly of me, i know.
Thaumaturge is alright but the game seems to concentrate on them being too 'blood-magic' oriented and emo-ish. And they only have a handful of nukes that look pretty subtle.
I like lancer but I've gotta give a new weapon a try after being a DRG in xi. Plus, the polearm attacks are unvaried in this game - the constant 1-animation 'thrust' grated on me, sadly. I found this class very fun though :)

So, still choosing :)
Mage stat allocation seems unfair though. We gotta pump 4-5 stats

For race, I picked Miqote. For class... well... I just picked whatever I liked the clothes for best. You can change your class at any time but you still keep your starting clothing. So I picked Pugilist. But I'm probably gonna switch to Archer.

Well I've pretty much decided that I want to play two characters, Miqo'te as my actual "main" and then Hyur (M) when I have time.

Miqo'te/Moon Keeper: I initially wanted to be Archer, and I may still go that route eventually (well, I will probably go most if not all routes EVENTUALLY), but I'm kinda leaning towards Conjurer/Thaumaturge to start with now... Mostly because I enjoyed it more than I expected to, but also because I get the feeling that none of the other people I'm starting with are going to want to play healer much. My BF certainly isn't and I plan on playing duo with him a fair amount. I don't RP by any means, but I like to have some kind of significance to my class (at least what I start out as, it doesn't go against my head-canon to branch out later), so I figure being a caster from Gridania is an okay way to go. Goddess Menphina just to go with lore.

Hyur/Midlander: Lancer primarily, but with some of the other DoW classes added in. I may have him shift toward tanking later on, but I'm undecided. Choice again due to a mixture of discovering love for the class itself, and some kind of vague way of integrating the character into the world. Either him or his ancestors having lived in Ala Mihgo before the Garlean Empire ate it up (can't seem to figure out the time at which that occurred, anyone know?), because AM supposedly had lancer-based armies. That's also why I'm making his god Rhalgr (patron deity of AM). Starting in Ul'dah on release. It's nice to have even a very vague/general background to help with immersion, even if you don't go full-on RP with it. /shrug

Edit: Go-go-grammar.
