Edit 2:
Okay heres an image of my char without any gear on except the underwear and the weapon. However the weapon im equipped with is one i bought after the issue occurred and both my underwear are at 75% durability.

It's probably your underwear *serious*.

I still haven't find a way to repair my underwear...probably need to get a second pair in order to take the old one off...

Actually that's not repair is it? The repair icons I get are red and yellow. That icon's blue and I haven't seen it before.

I think the blue icon means that his/her underwear is in such a shape that it is significantly reducing his/her opportunity for any social or partying situations.

Closed caption for the humor-impaired:

Lol, sorry, I didn't look at the image before I replied...I'd never seen this icon before *and I can't read Japanese*...so do you know if what situation you'll get this -debuff- ?

Have you try to take your gears off or change to a different class?

How could you NOT look at the image before replying? I mean, it could have been the My Computer icon from Windows 98, for all you knew.

I can only pick out some of the hiragana and katakana, but

_ _ _ _によるベナルティが発生している_ _

による = Due to
ペナルティ = [penaruti] = penalty? (katakana is foreign words spelt out)
が発生している= occurs

"something" due to penalty occurs "something"

I don't know what that means.

My wager is that your current level is too high in comparison to the level of the equipment, so not only are you not getting anything out of wearing it, its actually counterproductive, if you were able to you would be better off wearing nothing there.

Imagine a level 30 Gladiator still wearing his first set of poopy baby diapers...

I don't think that's the case since my rank 14 Pugilist is still using the rank 1 Weathered Hora and I'd never seen this icon before.

To OP: what's the durability on your staff?

Have you try to switch to a rank 1 class with brand new tools?

Interesting going from FFXI where if you weren't changing gear constantly you weren't trying hard enough, to FFXIV where you get penalized for swapping gear apparently?

I'm just going by what I've heard, but I think in FFXI extensive gear-swapping was more a creation of the playerbase rather than the creators themselves who never could have imagined that we'd take gear-swapping to such extremes (having TP sets, WS sets for each individual WS, "Oh, sh*t!" sets, etc.), similar to how they never expected us to turn NIN into a tank (as well as not using WAR as a tank -- oh god, all that +Enmity on AF gear!). Maybe they want to make sure they avoid something they never truly intended this time around? Just speculation, but maybe worth mentioning.

That would be so much worse for me, because it just reinforces the idea that SE has no idea what the **** they're doing. I like to think it was purposeful, particularly because of how situational gear is and how necessary it is to be swapping constantly.

Penalty for switching gear too much? Penalty for wearing gear of too high level? Penalty for wearing gear of too low of level?

Switching gear too much: How can they penalize for something like this? You see a mining/harvest point and switch out your fighting equipment so you can harvest/mine AND so your other stuff doesn't get damaged because it doesn't benefit DoL in any way. Switch back. Someone needs something repaired. And so on. I would be ****** if this is what it is.

Penalty for wearing gear that has a "recommended rank/level" higher than you are currently: This is understandable. Since there is no restrictions on wearing gear, there has to be some negatives. Imagine seeing a level 1 Gladiator in gear with high level stats. I'm not sure if that is what this buff/debuff is, but this would make sense.

Penalty for wearing low level gear: Unneeded, imo.

All speculation right now though. We better not start any rumors or we risk getting twittered!

Would be worse for me too. :( I had sets for just about everything in FFXI. I loved making nit-picky gear swaps; gave me something to do/strive for when I finished with all the essentials.

To my understanding of basic japanese, this icon represents a armor penalty due to changing armor DURING a fight. I got this once when i macrod a gear swap during a fight with a mob. i don't know what the penalty was, but that's the same icon i got. it wore off after awhile.

The devs said at one time or another that there would be a penalty for switching gear mid-battle, just seems like yours is stuck Smiley: frown

More hidden effects! I can't find anything about this on the Lodestone.

Is the effect still in Japanese or has it finally gotten an English translation?

i'm pretty sure its broken. I switch to onion helm whenever i die, and one time while i was doing a battlewarden thing in a party it popped up, then when i changed my hat to a diff one it went away again. Weird because it never did it before that one time or after it, even in the same party/battelwarden thing.

I notice your inventory is almost full... maybe the icon is mistakenly showing up when you have a certain % of your inventory full.

Its happend while i was switching to onion helm and hasnt come off since. I have never equipped a piece of armor that was way ahead me. Maybe like 2 level difference max. I know its broken but it just sucks having it there all the time. Especially if its doing something to my stats.
