New Nvidia drivers (beta)Follow

I haven't seen this posted anywhere and did a search but Nvidia has posted a new beta driver. It lists FFXIV benchmark in the list of upgrades. I installed it and ran the benchmark and it seemed a lot smoother. No increase in score though. One thing that stuck out to me was the first lightning bolt on the boat dropped my fps to nearly zero with the last driver. This beta driver didn't budge on that specific bolt of lightning.

Thanks a bunch, I'll be updating my previous threads to report if buggy/stuttery performance has been alleviated.

The FFXIV benchmark is only listed under Vision 3D support nothing performance related (specific to the game).

I installed this driver and so far it's been pretty stuttery in closed beta. I'm going to try again tomorrow and see if the stuttering continues, if so I'm reinstalling the old nvidia drivers or waiting for the official release ones.

Seems like a ton of us were experiencing the stuttering, I thought it was just me and a select handful

Ah wanted to post about the new beta driver as well..

I'm on a gaming laptop with the 360m chip. I had been getting random crashes before. I found later there was always a message in windows saying that the Nvidia driver crashed and was restored, but this always caused FFXIV to kill itself with a direct-x error as well.

Now with the new beta driver I've yet to experience such crash. Walking around Gridania for past 2 hours without a problem. So these beta drivers seem very helpful for my laptop so far.

I also think the little stuttering I experienced in towns is much less now. More like how things are when I'm by myself out in the forest. Which is actually pretty smooth. More smooth than FFXI on my Xbox in crowded areas was at least :)

Yes I have updated my Drivers before. I however have never used "beta" drivers and was having a hard time finding the link to it. I've located it now. Thanks

BTW anyone interested I have a gtx 470 and experienced wierd and laggy graphics. After updating to the Nvidia beta drivers I would like to point out that the performance increase is huge for me. Atleast 10-15 fps on highest setttings and no lag what-so-ever. For anyone having any issues I would try it out.

It's a little hard to tell right now. My cpu (AMD 64 X2 2.1ghtz) is sub par for this game. Most of my choppiness is coming from that issue, but i did notice better frame rates in weather conditions. Also, NPC's seemed a bit more responsive in high population areas.

People with much higher specs than me or you are still experiencing stutters and such. Nobody seems to know what the problem is

Thanks so much for this, it improved my performance quite a bit. I'm running an 8700m in SLi.

Trying it out on my 240M, will post results after it's done downloading. It's pretty choppy in towns, even with the lowest settings currently.

Edit: Well, tried it out, and no improvement at all from what I can tell.

I'm running 2x 470's and had 0 graphical issues, all lag was connection related. This was with the July Drivers. I haven't tried the Beta drivers since I just finished my new build and I'm going on vacation tomorrow so it wasn't worth re-downloading the Beta.

Updating to the new beta driver with my 8800gt caused the game to lag and stutter really badly. I reverted back to my older 197.45 driver which plays the game smoothly with no problems.

The drivers or the sli profile is absolutely atrocious for me. I'm currently running tri sli 470's and before was able to hold 60fps out in the field with AA on with around 70-80% usages on all gpu's. Now with these installed my usage instantly spikes to 99% on all 3 gpu's sending temp's through the roof with 100% fan speed and less than 30fps. Time to tinker again...

Install blew out my sli profiles. Had to fix the profiles and now its back to working about the same as the 258.96 drivers.

I have this exact same set up and it runs pretty well on whatever the default settings are windowed in 1920x1080.

Same here, I just get some stuttering in the cities and sometimes near camps. I can't nail down the problem. I now upgrading by gpu or cpu won't change anything.

could you fraps a video of you running across limsa for about a minute and upload it to youtube?

I was going to try these betas out the other day when they were released, but the list of known bugs in the PDF was a mile long, which lead me to decide on waiting till they go live.

Anyone out there that has tried these with two GTX 480s in SLI yet?

you could just try it out, it takes 2 minutes plus a reboot. if you dont like, then reinstall the driver youre currently using. i doubt youre gonna find someone with that specific videocard setup, whos ALSO tried this BETA driver. youve got better chances (like, 100%) to see how it runs by trying for yourself :)

Did you remember to turn SLI back on after the update? It will shut off SLI after you install new drivers, so you have to manually turn it back on.

BTW: I reran the benchmark with these new drivers, and 3D looks excellent! I don't have much 3D gaming experience yet, but it's done better than TF2, Left 4 Dead, and Crysis (the few games I've tried in 3D). Compared to moveis, I'd say it's better than Avatar did, and on par with RE: Afterlife's 3D effects. I took a huge performance hit for 3D, though: 2395 without SLI (I forgot to turn it back on myself the first time) and 3280 with SLI enabled. I'm going to run it without 3D Vision next, to see how it compares of my non-3D score before the new drivers (7324).

SLI is enabled by default when running nvsurround. I have it setup as 3-way 470's which is crazy btw running @ 5760x1080. Sorry I forgot to mention my resolution in the previous post.
