Just wondering what the heck this mob is and why he keeps popping up like an NM in one of the caves I frequent for fire crystals...and why he doesn't drop anything good?

He pops in the cave just northeast of the starter camp in La Noscea after you kill fireflies and stuff for awhile, but he doesn't drop anything worth noting.

Do you think he'll drop something nice after live release? That he is an NM, just not holding in Beta?

I wish I'd grabbed a pic of his Furby little azz.

Just wondering whether anyone else has killed him a dozen times and gotten cotton bolls and junk.

I came across one of these in a river about half way between Camps Bentbranch and Emerald Moss in The Black Shroud. What struck me as odd was it never attacked back, and I didn't kill it all that fast.

No clue, possibly an nm that isn't supposed to be popping yet?

My thought was an NM, too. He may be the new Leaping Lizzy or whatnot(I only ever started characters in Bastok in FFXI, so I can't remember the names of the other starting area NMs).

Regardless, he's random and not a normal mob, so we have something to look forward to in the beginning =)

Jaggedy-Eared Jack and Spiny Spipi (or Tom Tit Tat). The whole lot of them could suck a huge one. Never once got a drop and camped them regularly over 7 years. Even after I didn't really need the items anymore, it was about revenge!

The collectors pop up here and there. They do seem to have certain pop points. They usually drop junk type items, but sometimes things like ores and gems. They're kinda like the Goblin Digger of XI.

and they do fight back... with spells. I killed the one between bent branch and emerald moss a few times today and he cast slow on me and stone... and other stuff.

That's like the Errant Souls I sometimes see in caves. It's not often that they'll pop up, but every once in a while they do. At first, I figured this spriggan was a leve mob, but I've been able to kill them so obviously not. ;) Must just be either a random spawn or have a long respawn timer. Never seen anything good from these things, but they're at least adding a little variety to the mobs they're near. :)

The ones I've encountered seem to enjoy stunning me, quite a bit;)

I'm looking forward to live release when I'll actually be out lvling combat more and engaging some of the higher lvl mobs I've seen while exploring. Right now, I've just been testing out all the jobs at lower lvls, but I have come across some higher lvl Goobbues, Jellyfish, Fallen, elementals, and Salamanders and such. The variety of mobs I've seen in a day is probably on par with what I'd have seen at lower lvls in FFXI just starting out.

It could have very well just been lag, but the timing didn't appear to be so.

I ran across a spriggan and didn't aggro but was attracted. This is what I expected from dealing with the rest of them. After standing next to him for about 2 minutes he became aggressive and started attacking.

Maybe spriggans have some odd mechanic we have yet to figure out?

ohh i loved Spiny Spipi and I was very lucky with her - almost every kill got me the cape so I camped her non stop when I made a return to FFXI later down the road, which net me a good income to start off with...as for the Rabbit, I must've killed the ******* a 100 times with no drop.

I camped Spiny so much and got so many capes that I think I drove the price down O.O

I've ran across quite a few mobs that i thought may be possible NM's the only one I didn't get to to pop over and over fairly consistently was a yarzon bleeder in the black shroud. only yarzon I have seen there and in a camp of thickshells. I would imagine there's no true NM's in yet. That's just a guess tho.

That's actually pretty cool. I like the idea of mobs that aren't instantly aggro, but get ****** off if you invade their space for too long.
