Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it's just that it comes up in EVERY SINGLE THREAD Smiley: smile

I'm not pointing fingers by the way, I'd like to think we give a pretty free reign over these forums and allow people to express their opinions. I know I'm not doing so much moderation as I am trying to write up guides and update the database/wiki.

Back on topic:

This is all good news to me, couple this with the new trailer and my excitement for this game has been redoubled Smiley: nod Now if my LS could just pick a server Smiley: laugh

I'm not saying that a disagreement of opinion is the problem, I'm saying the lack of moderation of these people who are able to skirt by at the line of what is appropriate behavior on a public forum is costing this site money. That's all.

As for the topic at hand I'm glad they are adding the hardware mouse, I can't stand it that I cannot control the camera with the arrow keys.

I'm not sure why SE decided to make open beta suck *** and then at the last minute promise everything will be great by release. Would be a lot more encouraging if they just cleaned up the game for the open beta so that they could get everyone excited for the release.

As I said before, people have grown too used to glorified demos being labeled as betas in the recent years. Betas are still a phase in the development cycle, not to mention the processes running for debugging purposes.

So in other words Open Beta shoulda been a demo instead of an actual beta version of the game? It is close to release but that is in no way stopping them from pumping out a patch on launch day or shortly after to correct some issues. Yeah it's the whole "blahblah sh*t wouldn't fly in this day and age blah blah" but in life sh*t still happens.

RIDDER wrote:
But the whole changing the 48 hour leave and anima thing makes it obvious (IMO) they are in uh-oh mode and are changing things now.

It's more like the fact it IS still a beta and they ARE still taking feedback they're actually incorporating it before release or shortly after like you should with a beta. You generally don't see changes when you play a demo of an MMO.

Edited, Sep 14th 2010 9:03am by Theonehio

You are absolutely correct. But with that being said it is now 1 week till launch and they are just now coming out with some of this info. And the info i am talking about is not about the new content they plan on (which just looks freaking cool if done right) but with the "adjustments" they are planning on for certain things. So get real and take off the blinders. IT IS 1 WEEK TILL RELEASE and this game is plagued with just crap.

Do i think all of these issues were going to be taken care of regardless of SE's pre-launch event speeches? Yes. By the time launch comes around? Absolutely not. I KNOW that a beta is not a demo, the problem is 1 week till launch and they have a product out there that looks like it needs 2 months to fix up.

Maybe, just maybe, when we receive our beautiful CE's and pop the DVD's in and install, the 1gig patch will run smoothly for all. It will download/patch in 1 hour (without the use of utorrent) and when we turn on our game, the majority of the problems that plague open beta will be gone.

I sure as do hope so.....

By the by, since you hadn't mentioned it, if you absolutely can't stand one person, there is an 'ignore' built-in. Hover over the person's name and click the 'Ignore' option. All posts from that person will default to the below-the-filter settings and auto-hide all of their posts. Good news coming from japan. It sounds like there are some (a lot of) aspects of the game that weren't released in Beta phase. All this, and the opening movie, we are definitely getting close to launch.

Info sounds good - lots of good stuff like NMs being instance-based now , won't have to compete with a bunch of other ppl or linkshells (including RMT) to "claim" a "pop" anymore. Hopefully SE has realized by now that for most ppl, waiting hours to claim something that pops every 24hours or maybe only once a week does not fit into most ppl's idea of "fun".

A few things I didn't see that I think still need to be addressed:

1) Auction House? Sounds like they are planning to stick with the retainer/bazaar system at least for the time being... Right now, this system is terrible - hopefully they'll find some way to make this more functional.

2) Party creation - current system is cumbersome and unintuitive... Why get rid of the party seek system that worked well in FFXI

3) Hot Keys - really hoping they add a lot more hotkeys so we don't have to navigate through a bunch of menus to do a simple task.

4) Crafting - right now, there is major lags in the crafting process that take away from the enjoyment imo.

That was the most exciting thing I have read on these forums since I started reading them.

Quote:
•Damaging monster body parts:
There are monsters which have different body parts that can be damaged. Using a specific weapon skill while standing in a specified position can lead to cutting a monster's body part off. For example, you can cut Malboro's vines or a horn/tail if the enemy has one. In addition to changing the monster's appearance, those actions can have the following effects:
- Weakening the monster
- Preventing monsters from using specific skills
- Acquiring materials from cut/damaged body parts

That made my pants tighter though. Hope that turns out as fun in game as it is to read.

I agree that I like this concept, but I am a little worried about targeting issues with specific body parts being targetable. Definitely seems as if this would make more sense in group play than solo. Targeting is a bit difficult at the moment (at least with gamepad).

SE, If none of these updates are exaggerated BS (faster/smarter UI), then consider your *** saved.
And kudos to everyone who didn't back down on well founded 'complaints'. As you see, this really IS the best time to speak up, because they're listening (in fear!!).

Ps: Hear that? That's the sound of the community's grip on SE's balls temporarily loosening. Let's hope they don't forget the feeling.

All around I am happy with the changed coming or at least addressed. I am going to stay out of the retainer vs AH system battle for now but I hope they realize that if they want to keeep the bazaar system they really, really need to drastically overhaul how it functions. Streamline the UI, add the ability to 'demand' for items you don't have, make it possible for people to search for demand items and I can see it working even if its a bit cumbersome for the average player. Right now the only way a player stands out in the 'market' is through the boothes and your name... that does not make for a competitive market like they seem to want to have. Maybe if they allowed us to summon retainers anywhere in the world it would be easier because then we can just plant the retainer at a location more fitting for the goods we want to sell.

Based on their comments, I am extra cautiously optimistic that a subset of the issues with the game will be addressed to varying degrees of community satisfaction in the run up to March 2011 when the console version is set to go.

I am glad they finally decided to communicate something. Its unfortunate that they chose to do it in Japanese only. The message that sends speaks for itself. At least we can take solace in the fact that they waited until till 8 days prior to the global release to give some feedback to the community. If they think the market outside of Japan is not important enough to communicate with, it appears they are only communicating with the Japanese market as an after thought.

Oh wait, nm....

Seriously I'm as dissapointed as you are, I expect these sort of comments from folks with less than 300ish posts. Those with more I would expect to speak with abit more clarity at the least. Oh well. I for one think this is the best FF MMO related site around. Sure it has support for other games, 3 of wich I played alot, but those games (WAR, EVE, DOAC) seemed lacking in community. Which is fine, those games have online communities that are strong. However Zam has always felt like home for me with XI and now XIV even with the random idiots, there seem to be fewer than ther sites (that includes all the MMOs I've played).

Really happy with everything they said there. Still hesitant about the bazaar system, but at least they gave us a vague "we're working on improving it".

i was bummed about no NMs in open world for a while, but then i remembered back, and they never really worked in the "neat, I found this stronger guy, lets kill him for better rewards", instead turning into campfests. I'd be alot happier if they had them tied to leves you could do 1-2 times a week, or BCNM type encounters.

With the new news about the crafters and the bazaar system, I just wanted to advertise once more for my linkshell (and perhaps suggest it for other servers, as I will be on Besaid). It's designed to be a crafter/gatherer linkshell to coordinate efforts and provide a list of crafters and what they can do for the server. Having such a linkshell on each server (or competing linkshells, yay capitalism) would ease the switch from AH-driven to bazaar-driven economies and help out when it's time for those big proejcts they mentioned.

Jokes aside, I'm quietly relieved.

Even my SE fanboy self couldn't help but cringe about how clunky the UI and how even more clunky re-macroing abilities was; SE's quietness and lack of an official venting forum made things even more tense.

Though I've always said I'd wait to reserve judgement until after the game is out, SE still needs to keep the dialog open and keep the good news coming for months to come.

"Post-Release
In addition to what was announced here today, we are also planning massively multiplayer battles.
There currently exist several class abilities which may have players scratching their heads as to how they are to be used. Many of these were designed with PVP in mind. While we cannot reveal much regarding PvP now, we have some exciting announcements planned for the near future."

Not that I cared much for XI PvP, but I didn't know they were "this serious" about it in XIV. For FF I definitely want a PvE focus, but it is fun to see that they might give PvP a chance to be something cool as well.

Also, seems like trading with NPCs is going to be a mini-game, which might be really fun. Unexpected, but well recieved news, at least for me.

I think all of this sounds great, I guess the question is how much will be present at launch, but either way it sounds very promising.

Yeah they did say it will be sports styled like XI's was if PvP does enter XIV.

I'm hoping that SE makes it so that certain areas of the zombie dungeon are marked for selling certain things

That would be a very simple solution. Great idea. Even is SE does not do something like this, I think all servers should adopt an unofficial method like this to help both buys and sellers out. Have each ward buying/selling a specific type of merchandise.

Wow, I didn't expect to read anything like this for quite a while. But as most people have said, this is great news, but whether or not they implement it sooner rather than later is another thing. Either way I'm just relieved these things have been mentioned!

Didn't see this posted yet I don't think.

As for this...haha! I found that real cringe worthy, but maybe it was just me?

Interesting info. Source to any of it?

I'm not sure why SE decided to make open beta suck *** and then at the last minute promise everything will be great by release. Would be a lot more encouraging if they just cleaned up the game for the open beta so that they could get everyone excited for the release.

As I said before, people have grown too used to glorified demos being labeled as betas in the recent years. Betas are still a phase in the development cycle, not to mention the processes running for debugging purposes.

Even post launch is a phase in the development cycle. That doesn't excuse any thing at all. Of course they're still going to make changes in open beta, just as they'll still make changes five years from now if the game is still going strong.

So in other words Open Beta shoulda been a demo instead of an actual beta version of the game?

I guess it just depends on whether S-E likes money or not. Does the open beta have to look like an almost finished version of the product? No, it doesn't HAVE to, but if it did, it would probably lead to more sales right away. The fact that other companies seem to shoot for this goal and S-E doesn't, doesn't mean S-E is morally wrong, it just means they're not up to the same standard of excellence in this regard.

In any case, it looks like they're taking complaints seriously, which is a good sign. I wish I'd seen them mention that they'll have a completely new and improved patcher/downloader in effect for release though.

I hope for something Brenner-like, but with more than one playing field.
