A delicious summary indeed. It's refreshing that SE actually came out with so much detail (with a lot more to come from the looks of it) and is making me reconsider when I'll join the ranks of FFXIV on opening day. What I really love is they addressed a lot of the issues players have been having with the beta that I've seen around the forums, like Leve refresh time and the rate of Anima accumulation.

Looking forward to reading more.

If I may point out something nice.

Quote:
Retainers

We are aware of the amount of time it took to buy items from retainers, and so we have been working diligently to make this system quicker and smoother by the time of release. Also, we are looking into ways to make it easier for players to buy and sell items through retainers.

Yay.

Not to knit-pick, but there's some things that need to be added/said about what's missing from their claims

Quote:
Inventory Response Time

We are fully aware that inventory interface response speed needs to be improved.

At the time of release, we hope to have made significant improvement, and plan to continue our work after release as well.

How come they say nothing about being able to manage your inventory better? (And arrows for archers should've been brought up, they require way too much inventory space.)

The XP system should've been brought up as well, currently using a low level weapon and not casting any spells during combat, aka basically just auto-attacking is the best way to level, that needs to be addressed so using abilities/spells grants you more XP. The easiest way to fix this is give a flat rate of skill gain per mob, so if you kill them quicker, you gain xp quicker. Even if that's fixed, the fact that MP doesn't regen adds problems to casters so that they'll most likely just auto-attack instead of casting spells since spells burn through MP too quickly. (Non-mage classes don't even have a way to regen MP besides going back to a crystal. Even the conjurer ability Radiance won't regen MP quick enough to be viable on any class besides a mage)

Also nothing is being said about a "Repeat Last Recipe" button, that would allow people to re-craft what they just crafted without having to go through all the menus again.

The insane amount of macros that will be required the higher lvl you get should've been brought up as well. An easier way to save your class data so you don't "have" to macro in order to switch classes freely. Hopefully the UI lag fix will address the problem with "macro lag" that currently exists, takes like a minute or 2 just to switch your action bars between classes while ya stand there doing nothing.(In a game where switching classes seems to be their main "trick" their UI doesn't really allow for you to do so easily)

They also state that they "like" their retainer system... i personally hate it and think just implementing a WoW type auction house feature is the best solution, but basically a well made search function will make it into an auction house anyway so... as long as they add that. (Because sifting through 100s and 1000s of retainers lookin for the item/s you want is a retarded waste of time)

All in all I'm optimistic about the changes and hope by the PS3 release all the problems will be addressed, but the current build of beta just seems like it's wayyy too far off from being complete to be completely fixed anytime soon.

* Introduction of discounted monthly fee payment plans (3-month plan in Japan/ 3 and 6 month plans in North America and Europe)

Are they talking about the discount plan for FFXI players, or a separate one for FFXIV? If it is the FFXI plan and it only lasts for 3 or 6 months, then FFXI players aren't going to be encouraged to play both games just for a discount on one. Or maybe you pay a single fee everyone 3 or 6 months, like with LIVE.

Anyone have any additional information on this?

Sounds to me like that's talking about just FFXIV in general. Which sounds pretty good if I can get a little discount for paying so many months in advance.

Don't have info to back that up, but that's what it sounds like...

I too think this is only related to FFXIV, something like instead of paying 13$ per month you might pay 30$ every three months.

That "leather mug of some sort" is the Adventurer's Tumbler that we're meant to be getting in the EU CE version instead of the Right of Passage certificate that the NA version is getting.

Quite why there is a difference I don't know but if you look at the official release info for each region you'll see it listed.

I think I'd rather have the tumbler than a Right of Passage piece of paper.

Between a diploma to state you have a character in an eworld and a thumbler (for dice I assume) you don't need to use for this game I don't know. As most things that come with colector's edition, director's cut and such these are mainly made to look nice.
