From the completion of all worlds maintenance which is scheduled to end on Sep. 15, 2010 at approximately 8:00 to Sep. 16, 2010 8:00 (GMT), an event will be held in which users can try out the in-game bonus items that will be implemented in the official release of the game.

The event will be held in the Karnak world, which can be accessed once the event begins. If you create a new character in the Karnak world, you will start out with an "Onion Helm" and "Asuran Armguards." Feel free to create a new character and test out these items.

We may add other worlds and hold similar events depending on circumstances.

However, please be aware that character names from the Karnak world and other worlds added for events will not be carried over to the official release of the game and the worlds will be closed down once the event is over.

*Event completion time may be subject to change.

*Please be advised that the bonus in-game items that you receive during this event will have no impact on the actual bonus in-game items that you may receive for the official release.

I know! Trying the helm today almost made me want to switch to the standard edition. I will never wear that thing, even over my dead body. The asuran armbands were HOT though, sadly I shared the cost of FFXIII with a family member and the code went to them.

You know I didn't realize today that the In-game Bonus Items are different.

I thought: You got the Goggles just by pre-ordering (either version) and the Onion Helm was an additional bonus item for those who are picking up the CE.

I'm kinda bummed. I was more interested in the Goggles but I pre-ordered the CE. :(

Tested the helm a little, cuts the weakness time in half so your only weakened for 1 min 30 sec, however, you have to die with it on to get the bonus. Which totally blows cause the helm makes you look like a las vegas show girl.

Anyone have any idea how well the garland goggles work? I'm wondering if it is a limited use item, or if it seems to improve the amount of skill points gained indefinitely.

how else would it work?

and if it cuts down weakness in half - that IS pretty useful

my guess is all ingame bonus items will be unrepairable - that is how they will make them have limited usefulness.

They could have made it work by making the weakness wear off quicker if you put it on while you have weakness. But apparently they didn't want to go with that approach.

That will sad if these bonus items just wear out and are unusable after that. Especially with how fast things wear down currently.

It has been said on FFXIV Core that you can put the Onion Helm on AFTER you are raised and the effect will proc.. It will be 1min and 30 secs from the time that you put the helm on.

You had to have bought one of the original productions (First batch that went out) of Final Fantasy XIII (PS3 onry iirc).
There was a card that had a code to be entered to get you a chance at the Beta, and also receive a free bonus item (Armbands) when registered on the website. Some people have been going to local gameshops, and searching for returned/used copies of the game, hoping to find unused codes in the boxes still.

I kinda like the onion hat. If not, you're only going to wear it for a couple levels on each character anyways.

I've always thought that having any otem equipped that gives you a bonus when you are doing bad is counter productive. It's like betting on yourself to fail.

The item surely had a higher impact when weakness time was 5 minutes. Still, I think the defense stats count more than the ability.

Anyone know what defense stats the helm has?

It does look ridiculous... but also pretty **** funny lol. Hey, years from now, you can put it on during special events and people will say "OMG, that's so...cool, where'd you get it?" Old schoolers will then talk about the pre-historic days of 2010.

Shameful as it is for me to admit it, this is pretty much the only reason I want any of this exclusive stuff. There was so much random stuff in FFXI you'd see on people, but you only got from "This" event, or "that" time. Most of it just sat in storage, but you would stand out when you broke it out 2 years later, and all the newbies had no clue.

Every time I broke out the Nomad Moogle Cap in FFXI, everyone in my party was impressed and wished they had one, and it made me think about how much fun I had on that trip to California. I'd definitely go for the onion hat for the future artifact status it will have.

It's not shameful lol. It'll have sentimental value. Remember people tanking in the dunes with the pumpkin helm?

If that's the case it seems like you could just equip the Onion Helm after you are raised/returned and then there would be no wear on the onion helm because you aren't actually fighting at that point. Meaning that the Onion Helm will probably last forever, not sure about the garland goggles though.

I have always missed my bat staff from FFXI. I got it from haloween event, and rarely saw anyone else with it, but it allowed me to warp back to my homepoint about once a week or something. Loved that thing!

LoL, I liked that thing too. One of my favorite gear setups was my "soloing a new job in gustaberg" setup which was random level1 festival items like the coven hat and a cheap weapon.

Decided to make an account so I could thank you for bringing this to my attention. I read your statement, then thought, "wait a minute... my copy of FFXIII came with some sort of code..." Sure enough, I got that done and now I'll have those oh-so-beautiful Armguards once that magical release day comes! Thanks so very much!

Also, I been cruising this forum for long enough that I should have made an account months ago >.>

My roomie had an unused FFXIII code that I entered to try getting into closed beta before they started Phase 3. The unintended end result tho was I'll be getting the Asuran Armguards from his code now. But I guess it doesn't matter, something tells me I'll be the one doing all his repairs anyway. So it's a win-win situation (Sort of.) in that case.

EDIT: Fixed a typo, meant to say closed beta, not open.

I'm surprised at how many people dislike the onion helm. I think I look rather dashing with it on, but then again, Lalafell look awesome in nearly anything. They could release a literal red onion costume for Lalafell that was just a giant red onion that has been cut in half, and it would look adorable waddling down the streets of Ul'dah.
