With only a few days left of Beta remaining,i began to ponder if i accomplished all i wanted to do.
Even though everything gets wiped clean, and all of us start anew there were a few things i had to try
before game went live.

1.Learn controls of game (Map controller,Macros, etc.) Check
2.Get Main to decent level to be sure that is job i want to do (Level 20) Check
3.Explore all 3 starting cities and familiarize myself with surrounding's Check
4.Delve into the new crafting system (sadly enough i have yet to get to this)

So i did pretty much what i wanted to do in Beta except for crafting. And i was curious what was the most
important thing for you to try out,or what was the most fun thing you did during all our lil test run?

I got everything pretty much done I was hoping to. Here was my little list :) I am so glad they allowed OB

1. Picked my starting city (the original one I wanted I ended up hating)
2. Pick my starting class (I was very happy to be able to try them out)
3. Get use to the battle system (took me some time to get use to it)
4. Configure my gamepad (all set for opening day!)
5. Making my character (surprisingly it took me about 2hours, when in XI it took me 5 minutes lol)
6. DoL (much more fun than XI, and I have to say more user friendly since more than one person can use a node)
7. DoH (took me a good week to finally figure it out, but I like how it is a little more active, though more frustrating when you break stuff)
8. Trying out a Retainer (I like the concept, I hate the implementation, that is all I will say lol)
9. Walking from city to city so I have an idea of the land layout(Sandy to Jeuno that first time with no sense of direction was pretty **** scary for me lol)
10. Seeing exactly how Guidleve's worked vs. other MMOs quest system (its interesting, I really like the concept and I think when they lower the cool down it will be a very nice system)

That was my experience and what I wanted to accomplish. As a side note it was pretty funny to see some of the names people came up with. The funniest I saw was Itwuzme Eyeputed, childish ya but seeing a Lalafel with that name just made me crack up.

The one thing I wasn't able to do since I restarted so many times was to try out the repair system and the expense it will cost. Still a little worried about that, but I didn't see many people repairing stuff since it was OB so I am sure it will be totally different come release :)

Pretty much got everything done I wanted to try.
- try all startin cities
- try all disciples of war and magic
- try how gathering works
- try how crafting and repairing works
- try gameplay, leve system, solo and party play
- try trading, bazaar, retainer, macros, configuration settings
- try community tools like translator and chat system, friendlist, linkshell
- try battle regimen...that only got me or party members killed and didn't work even once

So far I like the game except for the slow and kinda complicated UI but as we know SE already stated that this will recieve great improvements in retail so I'm not concerned at all.
I just wish they would add the /sea and the party invite text commands again in addition to the current system.

I'd say so. :D

- Finally chose the races, appearance, and names of the characters I'm going to play. Might not be a big thing to some people but for me it is and that took a while...

- Went around and barely explored each city just to make sure which 1 I like best for my characters. I was so sure it was going to be Gridana before OB came out lol.

I don't really want to do much else... can't wait until the release is finally here.

I changed my starting city, and am really glad that I did.

I didn't get to mess with enough character models/classes to see which ones had the best animations though. still have a few days, I may be able to squeeze in another 1-2

I just wanted to see if I could run this thing and...well yes but not great. Will need to wait till March or June before I can afford enough of an upgrade for this thing now since we had to get a new used car. And here I was saving up for the end of the year sales.

Maybe it is for the best because from the looks of it, graphic cards are getting sold out like crazy right now and I am not sure if it is a near end of the year thing or everyone planning to play 14 is scrambling to update their computer.

Yes & no...I learned everything I wanted to about the game, but I like all 3 cities & all the classes. Some I do like more than others, but I don't dislike any of 'em. So part of me wants to go the slow route and level some of everything evenly. Though I think I've narrowed it down enough to have a couple classes & a couple crafts to really focus on and see what happens from there...

I had a few goals that I think I've accomplished.
First I wanted to make sure that I could actually play it and I can.

Next I wanted to settle on a look for my character. I think I've settled but I'll probably be last minute on that, lol.

Last was really just to have fun and make sure that I'll have time in my schedule to actually play an online game. I've gotten that down to a good rhythm that allows me to enjoy the game but not fail all of my classes.

Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books.

Two things for me was to check my comp could handle it, and just to see how it feels to me only played on the beta mainly for this, didn't see much sence in playing over that (seeing that its all for nothing, meaning character deletion)

Did what i needed to do, and am happy until release :)

seen some sights

experienced the battle system

Had fun.

Just waiting on the official release to start actually have some real fun.... i hope

Made sure my PC can run it.
Picked my race.
Picked my starting job.
Picked my starting city.
Tried out crafting to get a feel for it.
Tried out retainers to get a feel for them.
Reserved my name on the server I'll be playing on.

So yep, I got everything accomplished I wanted to :)

I didn't get to a very high rank at all, but I didn't want to grind when I knew we wouldn't be keeping our characters.

The biggest thing for me was deciding between Lalafell and Hyur. I'd been going back and forth since closed beta.

I didn't really go into the testing with a list of goals, but as far as feeling I've milked the beta for all it's worth to me as a new player learning the different systems, I'm happy with what I've gotten out of it. Now I mostly just log in for brief periods to test this or check that or craft for a bit. Oddly enough, I'm looking forward to the end of the beta this weekend because I'm just not all that interested in logging in and doing anything with a character that I can't keep at this point.

I've been fighting with that too. I really do enjoy playing, but knowing the impending wipe is coming makes it hard to really want to keep progressing on my character. I did get the second part of the main ul'dah storyline done, got leathercraft up to 11 and my pug to 13. The only thing I need to do is get to gridania. I've explored all over, mor dhona, corenthas(spelling?), and took a ferry to LL, but have yet to get to gridania and check it out. Think i'll work on that tonight when I get home from work.

I still haven't really decided between male lalafell, female hyur or Roegadyn.... le sigh.

but otherwise I've done pretty much everything - got a craft to 13 - would like to raise a couple more - but I think if I do any more crafting it will be on goldsmith ... want to see how high I can get and what I can make.

Didn't try fishing and I sort of wanted to... but maybe I will tomorrow when my girlfriend is not home. Tonight no playing for me.

Oh and learned something cool - I really want to level conjurer to 10, then THM to 10 - and then work up gladiator as my main because gladiator with spells is rocking awesome. (at level 9 glad now - with more than 1/2 conjurer abilities)

No, I absolutely did not. All I wanted to do in beta was to try out duoing with my son to see which classes we would play when retail was released but I couldn't get him to play. He briefly tried out a few classes and then went back to COD and did his best to ignore me. grumble grumble Collectors editions grumble.

After testing the game enough to decide on purchase/first week plan, I had only one loose goal:

To save up 219k to buy the Dented Celata from the armor NPC. Just to see how it looks.

Mission accomplished.
I was gonna give it to a random person but it's 'Rare/EX' ><.

Bring on my CE.

PS: examining those screen shots, anyone notice the notes pinned to random objects in the BG? Anyone else find it a little out of place to see what appears to be duct tape, in this era of blacksmiths and magic?

I was able to test all three towns for missions and exp camps. I like Gridania's story, but not their exp camps. I will probably start in one zone and run to a different.

I took my two crafts to 10+

I figured out my day 1&2 startegy.

I'm pretty excited to jump in!

- Choose the starting city
- Explore
- Play with the character creator
- Play with DoH/DoL

I also got to test out Conjurer and Lancer, I like them both. I didn't take any job to any high level, I think 5 is my best. I just haven't had a lot of time to give to the OB. Busy few weeks! My seminar for the semester's next Friday, so after that things should relax a bit and I can play!

I've accomplished maybe half of what I wanted to test out so far. I still need to test out a character in Grindania and try my hand at some of the other crafts. I've learned some good stuff though. I've found some classes that I really enjoy, got the basics of crafting down, and realized that I like Ulda much more than Limsa. In general I think the game is going to be fantastic once the UI is cleaned up. The major downer for me at the moment has to be the retainer system. If this doesn't undergo a major change, then I can definitely foresee it limiting my enjoyment of the game. It is simply way too inefficient and time consuming. It would also be nice if crafter could log recipes they learn in an in-game crafting journal ; )

- Pick race.
- Pick appearance.
- Pick name.

As of this morning, I can finally say yes (... I think).

Choose race - check
Choose primary class - check
Choose sub classes/crafting - check
Choose starting city - stuck between Gridania and Ul'dah

Learn controls - check
Learn city maps - check

Get everything down to have an understanding on the game. To not be lost on day 1 without learning too much of the world, as too be able to explore and enjoy it on my permanent character: CHECK!
If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes should fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.
