People have been saying for weeks that the retail version was 20+ GB, and just NOW you people are noticing this? After flaming the 4GB beta version? Wow...

Gah. I was hoping when I opened this topic up that it would be that they would offer a FTP download. Just goes to show that I set my hopes a little too high. I can't download any of the patches because my ISP blocks P2P and I can't switch ISP to resolve it. I have been downloading the patches from megaupload due to this problem.

So does that mean when open beta is done, we should remove the client?

From the beta site:
Quote:
hank you for your participation in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test.

The Open Beta Test will end at 17:00 (PDT) on Sunday Sep. 19, 2010. Following the official launch of FINAL FANTASY XIV, please uninstall the beta client “FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version”.

Installing the release version of “FINAL FANTASY XIV” or other software developed by our company while “FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version” remains installed may cause certain issues. Should you try to uninstall “FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version” after installing the release version, certain settings may be reset.
* The language setting of the Operating System will be used to determine the default language setting for the release version of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Yes people should be uninstalling the beta client upon its completion. We will need the retail client discs to play the game 'initially'. Also people should have known for a while now the game was going to be bigger upon release. The minimum requirements on the site even state a 20+ gig space needed for HDD (15 gigs from disc, 6 gigs from download).

No game should be over 1gb in all actuality, it depends on the type of game, type of content, type of quality (HD = bigger file sizes) not to mention SE uses CGI when most don't..that alone will pump up the install size, especially since there's going to be many more CGI cutscenes this time around since its going back to the FF roots during the 3D era heh.

Checking some sites selling this game, they need to change required specs then. The ones i quickly looked up it says 10GB. Feel bad if 22GB is true and i know a lot of people buying this game just do not read websites like ZAM and such.

Given we have to delete the beta, is it possible to save the character templates and use them with the official version so we don't have to rebuild from scratch? Or could that cause a conflict?

Yea don't worry though, the haters will still say," What you see in Open Beta is what the game is". The extra 10gigs must be random Mithra **** they throw in with the game.

The extra 10 gigs isn't taken up with optimization and client improvements. It's assets for zones, mobs, music, etc, which every one already knew was going to be added for retail.

The game might be vastly improved for release or it might not be, but the 10 gigs of data have nothing to do with that.

Can't you just use your own torrent program and block all uploading for the update files?

Nah, I'm confident in them hitting 20+ GB. Seems like something they'd do.

Also, FFXI + RoZ + CoP + ToAU + WotG + ACP: 9.56 GB, 45,570 files, 759 folders. (Just the FFXI folder, not counting PlayOnline and TetraMaster)

Dragon Age: 15.1 GB 11,472 Files, 224 Folders

Unreal Tournament 3: 8.04 GB, 2,095 Files, 97 Folders

The Sims 3 + World Adventures: (Shut up) 9.00 GB, 3,181 Files, 193 Folders

I believe that on top of the 22gb provided in the disc, there is a high chance the 1st update will be in gigabytes. I'm sure there will be a patch after the installation.

Yah, i suppose. I just hope there is no backlash of some sort. Because every site (checked 5 now) still have minimum req. of 10GB.

Honestly, this is such a null requirement at this point, I can't image anyone getting angry at SE about not having enough space. With too little memory, or not a powerful enough CPU, buying the game to discover your computer doesn't measure up is a serious problem; with too little hard drive space, either you brake down and spend another $20 on a little more space, or delete something you don't use anymore.

People will get frustrated, but it's such an easy thing to get more space these days, I can't see it building into a backlash.

Normally I don't rate people up for short little, I'll be generous and call it satirical, remarks like this, but I had to give it credit for correctness. Please Upload, do it for the kittens.

Also, WoW + BC + WotLK: 19.0 GB, 4,166 files, 818 folders (and that's including patch backups and add-ons)

Mass Effect: 9.88 GB, 7,233 files, 437 folders

Mass Effect 2: 11.4 GB, 4,613 files, 58 folders

And just for the sake of random trivia, most of my PSX library: 24.5 GB, 123 files, 0 folders (though admitted, that just consists of 41 hand-ripped ISOs)

Fun fact: it actually takes my computer significantly longer to just count up the files in the FF14 Beta directory than it takes to load up any of those games and actually start playing. LOL

Install: 15gb
Download: 6gb

Dunno why any other sites would have anything different, but those are the minimum requirements as per SE.

My guess is a good portion of that info, like some people said, will be for cutscenes... I imagine atleast the story cutscenes will have voiceovers, since SE already gave precedent by having every nations intro video have voice overs.

But given what SE announced at the prelive event It gave me alot of hope that beta was beta and launch will not be beta... or atleast not beta in its current form. ;)

Nothing to be ashamed of, that's a great game!

<.<

(I also have it...)

And what is the problem with downloading the contents via utorrent?, it should help OP problem, I mean you can always restrict how much you are sending to bypass your ISP restrictions.

Regarding the size, if it were 64-bit it would have been even bigger. :)

Over time I can see it hitting 30GB. But all of this really doesn't matter unless you bought a small SSD boot drive or something. Eh.

RE: Sims

I haven't played that game since it came out. In the end certain people are into well *ahem* certain things. I'll try not to... *cough* judge... :D

I'm on BT fibre (at least as far as the cabinet at the bottom of the road) but they only throttle my torrent speeds in the evening. Daytime is fast as fast can be. I got the alpha and beta downloads in about an hour each in the day.

i never doubted the beta client was all the content we'd get.
i doubted they'd fix some of the issues though, that have been around since 1st beta. dont remember them now though :)
but i hope they fix UI lag, and hardware mouse etc.

Anyways...im always blown away by download limits, seems utterly pathetic to have such a thing -.-
Here in sweden i dont think there's any ISPs with download limits. If i had such a DL speed, i could dl the internet during a day.

I hope they release big patches over a long time or something, so ppl have the chance to DL it before its released.

22GB?!

I actually like the sound of that. Must mean theres a lot more content we haven't seen yet in the beta.

That's great!

It does make me think, however, that when it comes to PS3 release. 22GB is a big chunk of space. And by March next year I'll bet there'll be updates to increase that.

So any PS3 players better have some space on their HDD. ;)

Luckily they will trim down the PS3's textures (rumors are 1/4th) so that the game should hopefully only take half as much room. As 40GB PS3s would be in trouble... not to mention the original 20GB versions >.>

Don't forget the 1st model PS3 have hot swappable hard drives, so can just pull out the 20gig and put in a 500gig if you wanted to. Tray for the hard drive is at the side/base(depending on if its standing or laying flat) of the PS3. So space isn't a factor. Now the slims I'm not to sure about, but there being sold with large hard drives anyways.

What a lot of you who are happy to hear this don't realize is that we are going to be paying them to test their content for them. You know all those problems with closed beta? Those were the problems left over by the same team who tested all 13 extra gb we've yet to see.

If it is really a 22GB worth of download...then no one will be playing on release date...a lot of us won't even be playing 2 days after release :P
