I played final fantasy 11 and was a taru. I knew going in that i wanted to be a blackmage/summoner but had no idea that taru sucked as tank. Should I be Human if I plan to be a healer but also want to be a tank? Also at what level should I be to start grinding with a group? Thanks in advance.

great thing about XIV is doesnt matter what race you are.. within 2 levels, you'll be even to any other race.. so make whatever ya want.

As for race, it does not seem to make a huge difference which one you chose. The difference ins attributes are not that huge.

With grouping you can start at level 1. Guild leve's, the basic form of levelling can be done at different difficulty levels.

When you need a group to grind levels. I hope never :D, but I also do not know either ;-)

Yah there is only a few things in game that makes it FFXI-2. Races kind of irritated me when they release the info. But after playing the beta, they have definitely grown on me like the races in FFXI

So what I get from the replies is that I can be a taru/lalafell and be a respectable tank? I know in FF11 that wasnt possible?

It was entirely possible in FFXI. -.-;

The only answer is play whatever you can stand looking at for your entire playtime.

Not possible is a bit of an exaggeration. I played with several respectable Taru tanks in FFXI. Sure, you had to have some pretty sweet gear to compensate, but not only could it be done, but it could be done well.

And in XIV it seems to matter even less, meaning that yes Taru tanks will be both cute and effective. :)

More like the exact opposite from XI. Each race has slightly different starting stats, but you control the stat increases every time you level. It's not fixed for you. To use the example you've been mentioning, the other night I partied with a lalafell(taru) gladiator who was one level below me, a roegadyn(galka) conjurer and he had 300+ more HP than me...maybe closer to 400. But I had way more MP than him...

The class you're on will play a big part of it rather than your race, and you still get to choose your own stats aside from the beginning stats. Any race can excel at any job....

Yup, stat-wise you can be a beast of a tank as lalafell, the part about being "as good" or better will simply depend on how well you play your class...

If you are a dirty old man the best race is Miqo'te. (me)
If you like boys go Hyur male. (my eldest son)
Lala's and Elezen are for old ladies. (my wife)
Roe's are for people who want to be different. (my daughter)

Start grouping at level 1. (everyone)
