Yay. I would totally love a summoner class - though the MP regen issue - how would that work? It would have to be totally different than XI style.

Can we assume summoner is coming eventually since they're in the game? I hope it is and they're not just bosses - although if they were bosses that'd be amazing too.

There's a good chance that they'd totally rework summoner. FFXIV being a brand new game and all there may not be a constant lost of MP. And if there is, their damage better be astronomical.

I still don't see why all a SMN can do is summon in FFXI! In all the other FF games, SMN has always been like a whm that could put up crazy *** numbers... Yuna anyone?

I don't think we can assume anything but I am pretty sure they are feeling a lot of pressure to have summoner in the game.

They also said they are looking at pet classes but that they make game balance difficult to start out with.

Well CON already has been described as a summing the elements and a CON has the abilities to do both healing and DMG. Maybe this is one of those forks in the road you have to cross as you level a mage class? Sorta makes sense they would place that in game somewhere. The class is kind of a staple to FF.

Well i'm gonna throw you guys a proposal and tell me what you think (a hypothetical proposal cuz I have no power over SE whatsoever last I checked :P), and I think this may be possible considering the summons seem to be in the game already as the shots *may* suggest: WHAT IF after we reach a certain level, no matter what class we are, we unlock a quest line that rewards us with a summon depending on which Diety you chose when you made your character. This summon will work like any other ability, but perhaps it'll be more like the 2 hour abilities from FFXI, a last resort sort of thing with a long reset timer - the ability would summon your Avatar and it would play an animation, summon would come down, unleash all **** and disappear. What do you guys think?

That's an interesting idea, I think I like it. I ended up doing that in XII, giving each character at least one summon.

Since its for all classes I would say only TP or maybe a percentage of MP (like 50% of full MP pool) & 3000TP...how's that? :P I would honestly love for this to happen although I know a lot of people want a summoner class but this way everyone can play any class and still get to play with summons.

Would be interesting to see a PLD type class summon Titian. Having Titain as a meat shield for a min or two would be pretty cool. He could get hate by lifting his little wash cloth of armor up! j/k

Not meaning to be a downer, but is there anything to say that those two creatures are summons? They appear to just be roaming the overworld, so couldn't they just be bosses or something?

my only question is...

where/how did the find them? i guess i gotta go to the source...

also! I kinda...am against a summoner class! I think these guys are going to be insanely powerful and I would rather have it that way.

Or at least a return to the single-skill summons...maybe a few people have to cast it (battle regime) and then a huge cut scene happens for all in the party? that would be...delicious.

They probably did a .dat swap. I've seen these posted on some other forums before Core posted this.

I was thinking the same thing. Whenever I had a SMN in my party in FFXI that summoned Titan, my automatic response was <Titan> <Subligar> <No thanks.>

Very cool pics, love the new look for Titan.

Ifrit, on the other hand....he does look insanely cool, but it looks like Ifrit from FFXI and Bahamut from FFX or XI got drunk one night and this is their love child.

Yeah for those that didn't know people have been able to reliably .dat swap these 'summons' into the game world. Basically just replace a specific mob in the field with the data for the summons and you can see them in the world. Pictures of moogles, airships, chocobos, and various unseen NPCs have all been shown in the game world doing this. Going to be interesting to see what people can dig up when the official release client goes live :) Wonder if anyone has gotten their discs early? (An ls friend just said his just got shipped and is tracking it now!)

I was thinking the same thing. Titan's so big that he probably doesn't even need a loincloth... like a pre-acidbath ******** from Bluntman and Chronic.

Sounds like a fantastic idea. 2 hour cooldown...maybe make it cost 2-3k TP to use...I'm game.

ok, ifirit not having fire does kinda suck but! I think that maybe it could be a release issue...fire effect on him might not show due to programming/.dat switch modification?

I agree, although I don't think he looks like Diabolos but I wish he had a fire frame around him or something and I wish he actually walks instead of glide (I think Ifrit glides in FFXI too doesn't he? never liked that much).

Why does Titan even have a loincloth? There's no bulge so I'm assuming he's either got no man parts, he's a she or he's "so small".

By the way, those pics made me go :o

I mean.. they're ugly. Too evil-ugly to be summons. Especially Ifrit.. poor thing what did they do to you!
Should they ever release a Summoner class, I hope it'll have better looking summons than these. >_>

PS I'm not saying they're graphically bad or something, they're amazing actually. They just don't look right to me.

I just noticed these two guys in the Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) - Trailer CGI Official Release Opening Cinematic o.O

When that huge ship gets taken down by some kind of Bahamut and the light engulfs the dragon, these two among others flee the scene, blasting past the adventurer. (6:10)

I'm also thinking there is a relation of that event and the vision people get during the opening town scenes. The one with fireballs coming down from the sky and the song, that's being heard, about being free. It's possible the freedom was about those creatures fleeing the scene.
