Mobs running away and healing.Follow

#1 Sep 16 2010 at 9:12 PM Rating: Good
So lately, lots of mobs I've been fighting are running away during battle (not levequest mobs, regular ones). I'm tired of it...is there any way to prevent this? It's a huge waste of arrows.

Its happening quite a lot for me as well on my conjurer. Sometimes they can turn around and within 1sec they have half their life back. Other times I do a nuke for almost 250dmg and hp doesn't move at all due to the healing.

Think its more along the lines with the antlion ya gotta kill in Attowa Chasim (spelling) if FFxi near the mtn climb (CoP). If it makes it back to its orginal starting area they gain some life back when they run there. Way i found out to counter this and move closer it its orginal spot if not practially standing on it and it wont regen... like wise i went through a ton of arrows on the same issue.

Yeah it SEEMS like a glitch at times because they don't even have to run back and start regening, unless coblyns have native regen I don't know about.

I've had a lot of luck by standing on flat terrain. It reminds me sort of in FF11 when you'd fight something on a hill, and at certain angles, you couldn't target the mob. I hope it does get fixed, 'cause it can be a killer (literally) if the wrong mob happens to glitch.

I noticed it only really happens when you are on a spot that they cant really find a place to stand on near you or if you pull them out of their zone. I have yet to see any do this when I have just walked up to them and started hitting. I have had a goat knock me back, come up to fight me then turn around and head back to heal. I guess I went out of his area. I went back and started fighting him again and then hit knocked me back again in the other direction and he came up fighting and stayed till I killed him. So I really think it has to do something with their zone. Maybe something SE wants so parties cant just setup a camp anymore? Or it might just be something they need to fix.

As a ranged couldn't you exploit this? Get a certain distance away and spam your non magic consuming abilities to generate a stream of skillups?

I dont see anyway to take advantage of this. They still turn around after a few seconds and hit you with a ranged attack as well. Its not like you can just skill up on them and they wont hit you back. The problem is a few cases is you have to run after them to stay in range to hit them with magic or any ranged attacks. But yeah, they still hit you.

Yea I've seen that a lot. The other day I was fighting crabs that were hanging out in a stream near Gridania. 1st fight I buffed up and kept my distance, standing above the water & nuking. The crab would come hit me a bit, then run back into the water and heal itself. Which was kinda funny looking...looked like it was the water healing him.

After that 1st fight I got into the water right where they spawn and it stopped happening the rest of the way.

I didn't really notice this when I was playing as pugilist, but when I was playing archer I noticed it a lot and it was very annoying.

Does binding the mob help? Will that keep the mob from running away and healing? It kinda sounds like SE doesn't want static xp camps if this is not a glitch.

Bind does help...help it heal quicker Smiley: lol so it does feel like it may be a mechanic but also glitched because it seems a bit sporadic when mobs want to try to heal in my experience.

doing 10+ leves last night... and fighting Marmots along the way. came across Marmots and Anglers in the same "square". i was playing GLD and my friend as Archer, he pulled the Marmot out of the way of the angler... couple of hits and the Marmot ran back right next to the Angler! Cheeky ******!

it's like reverse camping! ha! they're really pulling US! ;)

There is a certain Dodo that spawns near Drybone on a hill.I would spam spirit dart on em and he would just stand there regening rarely even attacking just running back and forth god i love that dodo.

in caves mobs dont wanna leave or enter, so if you stand in a spot, they will come up and atk you, if you attack. then they will try to go back in/out again, leaving combat, and regaining HP as they move.
If they move away from you in combat, just move closer to their point of origin.
Some mobs run away after you do some damage to them also, i think.

not really, it seems the ammount of skill you can get from 1 mob is capped.
once you reach the cap, you stop getting skill points from the mob.

I know the exact spot.. there is another area across the road with the same issue.. has 2 DODO's and 2 Cobly's.. with ranged attacks you can easily take out even IT mobs.

When mobs are killing me I know I try and run away to heal. Seems fair...
