Release day shippingFollow

First, in case anyone wasn't aware Amazon is offering free release day shipping for the collectors edition, this means that you will receive your copy on the 22nd.

However, I had a question for anyone with experience in this. Have you ever had Amazon ship an order and used the hold for pickup options. Meaning that either Fedex or UPS will keep the package at their local office and you can pick it up at about 8am. I ask because my apartment doesn't see shipments until late afternoon due to our location, so if I could just drive over and pick it up that would be great.

Anyone ever tried it?

This is the first time I've tried it. I'm curious about it as well. I'm hoping it's OK.

you can do this with UPS, once you get a tracking number go to ups.com, make a account, select the package and arrange for terminal pickup, i have done it before with newegg.

Thanks, that is what I really needed to know. If this was something you could do after a tracking number was assigned or if I needed to contact Amazon.

I would be less worried if it wasn't free. If they charged you MORE shipping cost for day-of deliver, they'd be **** sure it gets delivered that day, or risk more backlash from the buyers than if it's free and arrives a day late.

Then again I'm not worried at all about that, cuz i pre-ordered with EB. But based on SE's last 2 box expansions for FFXI, the shipping for CE will have run into some mysterious 'problems' at port, and only best-buy will have gotten their stock on time somehow.

NA customs seem to suspect SE of smuggling drugs in their game boxes I guess. And Best Buy must be run by organized crime.

It was originally like $15 extra, I hope they didn't make it free because they won't be able to get them there on time. Smiley: frown

I always get the overnight with EB Games. The UPS and FedEx guys are hunting buddies so I let them know the night before and BAM!, 7am delivery in the bag.

With news of companies already receiving their copies i really wouldn't worry about it being shipped on the release day. Unless a certain company has issues or your delivery company messes up......

At least i keep telling myself that lol

I'm actually going to be canceling my pre-order from Amazon. As it is, I can't get the 99 cent shipping for release day, so I have to pay 10 bucks for shipping to Hawaii and as you can imagine there's a lot of risk of it not getting here until DAYS later. I'll have to find time to go to Gamestop tonight.

I work at UPS's Worldport hub in Louisville, so pretty much everything that goes to HI, or anywhere in the world really(if its 1-day shipping) goes through us, and about 1/3 of HI's volume goes to a belt in my building. We generally get most everything out on time but theres always boxes that got delayed somewhere in the line and end up getting put in the 2-day load. Come 3-3:30 a.m. im sometimes frantically running boxes to the right place so they can have a van take them to a plane on time. I would say though about 99% that makes it to us will get sent out without problems, just that unlucky small % that have to be sad pandas.

That's really the crappy thing about living in Hawaii, so many things that are free to ship is like everywhere in the US but Hawaii and Alaska >< I pay extra shipping on all sorts of things from Amazon and Newegg...oh and dell too, silly things that I would rather buy online then look for on the island and not have available =(

yeah I originally had ordered on Amazon - but not only did they not offer same day release shipping for free - they didn't even offer it for any amount of money - and even paying for "rush" shipping it was scheduled to arrive October 6th (for SE) >.> - I don't understand why it takes an extra 5 days to ship to Canada when I can see the USA from the beach two blocks away.

Add the fact that I live in an apartment building and I would probably have to go pick it up at a warehouse in the industrial part of town ... bah. I canceled that crap.

This is why you should get Amazon Prime, free release day arrival shipping, not to mention free 2 day shipping on everything else.
