AMD is rolling out the next gen CPU'/GPU hybrid Known as the APU. It looks to be pretty exciting. You can find the Story here.
Also, some discussion about it Here.

Looks promising for all of the FF XIV players that want to play on a laptop.

Well the important thing is, will this actually perform like a dedicated video card, or will it just be a way of simplifying integrated graphics?

Mikhalia: and FWIW, my posts are 95% helpful, informative, or funny.
Mikhalia: only 5% or less of my posts are utter crap.
Tyapex: 393 posts of utter crap...

It seems to me, that FF XIV likes abusing both your CPU, and GPU, but mostly your GPU. I can see where this new platform will help even out the workload. They will be coming out soon, so i can't wait to see some testing on it. I would think, that any improvement is good improvement.
It will be a couple of years before we see this on desktops. I hope by then, the chips will be pretty high powered.

Supposedly, having both chips in one will make the whole system work much better, and use less power to do so. Less power = less heat = good. Especially if you can squeeze more performance out of it at the same time.

Part of the issue with the current architecture is that information has to travel to several spots before it finally gets rendered for display. By putting the GPU & CPU on the same chip, you end up with a gain similar to what solid state drives gain over disk drives. The obvious issue is heat generation. If they make heat manageable, then putting them both on the chip allows for a pretty significant performance boost as you're not wasting as much time/resources moving the information from HD->Memory->CPU->Video Card->Etc...
