We would like to take this moment to provide details on the preparation for the official service of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

- Official Service Launch Date
At 18:00 (PDT) on Sep. 21, 2010, early access to the Realm of Eorzea will begin. The official service is scheduled to begin on Sep. 30, 2010.
* Along with the start of early access, the download of client patch will become available.

- Official Launch of "FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone"
Before the launch of early access, which is scheduled for 18:00 (PDT) on Sep. 21, 2010, the official players' site "FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone" will become available. "The Lodestone" is scheduled to become available at 8:00 (PDT) on Sep. 21, 2010.
All the news, topics and version update details on FINAL FANTASY XIV will be posted on "The Lodestone."

The URL of "FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone" is: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com

* As of now, the players' site is only available to certain beta testers. However, it will become available to all users starting at 8:00 (PDT) on Sep. 21, 2010.

- Uninstallation of the Beta Client After the Completion of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test After the Open Beta Test comes to an end, please uninstall the client software "FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version."

Installing the release version of “FINAL FANTASY XIV” or other software developed by our company while “FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version” remains installed may cause certain issues. Should you try to uninstall “FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version” after installing the release version, certain settings may be reset.
* The language setting of the operating system will be used to determine the default language setting for the release version of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

- Worlds Available Upon the Launch
The following worlds will be available upon the start of the early access that is scheduled for Sep. 21, 2010.

Cornelia
Kashuan
Gysahl
Mysidia
Istory
Figaro
Wutai
Trabia
Lindblum
Besaid
Selbina
Rabanastre
Bodhum
Melmond
Palamecia
Saronia
Fabul

* Depending on the server population, new worlds may be added.
* If server congestion occurs, character creation may temporarily become unavailable.

- Transferring Character Names to the Official Release Participants of the Open Beta Test will be able to transfer their character names from the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test to the official release. As long as the worlds selected in the open beta test and the official release are the same, the character name used in the open beta test will be usable in the official release.

* Upon the transfer of the character name, both selection of the world and character name input need to be done properly. Please make sure to remember both the world you belonged to and the name of the character you used during the open beta yest.
*If the character name has been determined to be improper by Square Enix, the transfer may not be done.
* After the open beta test has concluded, the character names still existing on the account will be transferable.

-Transferring Character Appearance to the Official Release During the open beta test, saving a character’s data at the time of its creation will allow you to create a character with the same appearance in the commercial release of the game.
* Data on character appearance will be saved under My Documents. Please be aware that the transfer cannot be done if the My Documents directory is deleted. Uninstalling the beta client "FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version" will not cause the data saved in My Documents to be deleted.

- Reminder to the Players Who Have Purchased "FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition"
Upon the start of early access to the Realm of Eorzea, server congestion on the Square Enix Account Management System is expected. By completing the following process on Square Enix Account Management System, you will be able to smoothly begin your adventure.

1. Register Square Enix Account Beforehand For those of you who have not obtained a Square Enix account, please click here and complete the registration process.

2. Selecting the Payment Method
Square Enix Crysta can be selected as the payment method for monthly service fees.
*Additional payment methods will become available after the Square Enix Account Management System maintenance, which will be completed between Sep. 20, 2010 from 19:00 to 23:00 (PDT).

- Transferal of FINAL FANTASY XI Player Character Name to FINAL FANTASY XIV When creating a new FINAL FANTASY XIV character, FINAL FANTASY XI players’ character names will be prioritized. The character’s name will become “Given Name: the Player Character’s name in FINAL FANTASY XI” + “Surname: the name of the Player Character’s World.”

* Please note that you will not be able to transfer your Player Character name in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to transfer Player Character names by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been canceled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.
- If there are no FINAL FANTASY XI characters on the linked PlayOnline ID.
* If you have recently created a character, transferred Worlds, or used the Character Reactivation Service on FINAL FANTASY XI, it may take some time before you can transfer your Player Character name to FINAL FANTASY XIV.
* Users can create characters with new names, regardless of whether a PlayOnline ID is linked or not.

- In-Game Bonus Items
→ To receive the in-game bonus items that come with FINAL FANTASY XIII (initial batch only), FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition, or FINAL FANTASY XIV Standard Edition, you will need to register the item codes which comes with the corresponding product. To register an item code, please follow the steps below:

1. Log into the Square Enix Account Management System (https://secure.square-enix.com/account/)
2. Select the "Select Service" option under "Service and Options"
3. Select "FINAL FANTASY XIV," and then "Add a service account"
4. Enter the corresponding item code, and then select "Next"

* The in-game bonus item will apply to the corresponding FINAL FANTASY XIV service account once the registration is complete.
* When you create a character on the corresponding FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, the character will start off with the in-game bonus item in possession. Please note that characters created prior to the registration of the item code(s) will not receive the in-game bonus item, so make sure you register the code prior to the creation process.

→ Perks for Simultaneous Players of Both FINAL FANTASY XI and FINAL FANTASY XIV If a PlayOnline ID with an active FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID is linked to a Square Enix account with a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, all new characters created on that FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will start out possessing an in-game bonus item.

* Please note that you will not be able to receive a special in-game item in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.

I'm so undecided on a name. The addition of a last name makes it harder. Idk if I wanna carry "Flix" over. :(

If you plan on playing with a group of friends, you can still use "Flix" , but have you and your friends all use the same last name lol.

Oh well it means less server congestion if it is spread out like that. Besides you can't blame them for the direction the earth turns and the location of the international date line.

Pretty much. And less than 24 hours difference is a lot less painful than the year difference it was in FFXI. I'd imagine international releases are in some way "unfair" by default, since you can't make it release at a convenient time for everyone. One man's afternoon is another man's wee hours of the morning. :\

I'm with you guys, no biggie there. But I will call my Gamestop and see if I can get the game early on the eve of the 21st. Probably not, but no hurt in trying.

When I register my FFXIII, I'd already input the code once, does it mean I have to follow this step to register again in order to get the item?

yeah I would bet gaming stores would be getting it the day before or even on monday.

I hope that my local store does us a favour and sneaks us our copies the night before. Doubtful, but would be nice.

Yeah, no harm in that. You're reasonable though. I still expect to see some people raging. You'd be surprised. When Blizzard (accidentally, some speculated) released Ruby Sanctum during a time when some servers were down for maintenance people absolutely blew up and said they lost faith in Blizzard as a company even though the difference didn't end up being more than a few hours at most. Not to mention Ruby Sanctum was just a small patch-in raid in which only a single boss dropped gear at a level somewhere between end-game Wrath of the Lich king gear and entry-level Cataclysm gear. Madness.

Yeah I'll have to pick mine up the morning of the 22nd I guess? Gamestop here decided there wasn't enough for a Midnight release or anything.. I wonder why they wouldn't sell it/give it out on the 21st if it's starting that day (22nd) in Japan?

When you registered the code you got in FFXIII (the "Campaign Code"), you would have been taken to a page where they then gave you a second code (the "Promotional Code"). The actual code that came in the box is just there to give you access to the second code. If you forgot your code you can find it again through the Square Enix MEMBERS page. The path you'd follow is FEATURES -> FINAL FANTASY XIII -> BONUS CODES -> Review Your Playstation 3 Bonus Code and Bonus Details. I hope that helps some.

Have you tried going to the website manually? I googled "Square Enix MEMBERS" and went to the main page that way, then was able to access my account management page and everything else just fine. It was only that specific link which took me to a "Maintenance" page. I still get the "Maintenance" page when clicking the link, but I'm able to be on my account as we speak.

For some reason the link in the OP adds a parentheses on the end. Deleting it took me to the proper page, also.

I still don't get that. After the awesomeness of the FFXI menus... like, how do you mess that up? It's a freaking menu for crying out loud. And if it gets on our nerves, I don't see how it can't get on their nerves as well! lol

I really want to laugh at that, but every time i think about making fun of how SE does that, all i can think about was how my Aion account got hacked. Thanks to NCsoft's lacking security on their main website. I know it's a royal pain in the ****, but i never got my account info stolen from POL, and i expect the same from the Members site.

Just a little food for thought. :)

P.S. i'm not flaming you btw, and i rated that post up, well... because even with all i been through, it's still funny lol.

Derailing a little bit, but the FFXIV member site is pretty neat so far. It's certainly a lot better than that mess they called PlayOnline.

The member site is pretty cool, I can see my characters and their stats without having to login to the actual game. Too bad in your character's image they don't show the armor s/he's wearing though.

I'm tempted to use the blog feature they have their instead of my own too. The thing stopping me so far though is the fact that I can use the Zam tooltips on my own blog, but I don't think I can on the player site.

Say what?

So those of us in Australia can play a day sooner than people in the USA and Europe. We are between 9-15 hours ahead so the servers will be up by the time it is 23rd in our Country.

Also, apparently some beta players have been selected for ultra early access and will be in from server up. \

Edit - certainly doesnt favour the Japanese only as we will be in even before they are. THe only people for whom 23rd comes sooner are islanders and I am not sure how good the internet connection is on date-line island!

It doesn't "favor" anyone really outside of timezone stuff..since early access means nothing when the economy is a barter system anyway.

I don't know, a lodestone attracts metal so maybe they're hoping players will be attracted to the website. Grabbing at straws here...

Also is one of those things that pops up once in a while in FF games. In IV there was the "Lodestone Cavern," where a bigger plot point happens. In VI, Lode Stone was an attack used by Ultros that also came uo in one of Mog's dances and I believe could be learned by Strago.

........
-Transferring Character Names to the Official Release Participants of the Open Beta Test will be able to transfer their character names from the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test to the official release.

- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
..........

This little snippet has me just a little bit confused... If you look at the bottom of what I quoted at the bold and underlined part... it says you can't have created a character BEFORE linking your Playonline ID in order to get the bonus item(s)...

Does this mean if you started FFXI 7 years ago and you created a character 7 years before linking your PlayOnline ID with the SE account you can't get the bonus items in FFXIV (after linking FFXIV to the SE account)?
OR...
Does this mean if you were/are in the open beta for FFXIV and you created a character's looks (and a name) that you want to use in the retail FFXIV, and you are transferring the saved name and how your character looked over to retail that you can't get the bonus items unless you delete that "profile", and remake it?
OR...
Is it as simple as NOT making a character on FFXIV retail til you link your FFXIV account to your SE account with a FFXI account already linked?

I hate how the wording could be taken totally out of context.

I also vote for the people who are buying the CE get the SE's Goggles bonus item too. I would like to have the Goggles, but if I am already paying $80 for the CE... I am not going to pay $50 more just for the goggles.

The "lode" part of the word is a reference to its magnetic properties being used in a compass, since it basically means "course" or "way." I think the idea is to play to the whole adventuring thing, making your way in the world, etc.

Well your forum name is "FlixEffect", so why not just "Flix Effect" for the character?

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries sure would help alot.

Yeah, I'm in his boat a bit, my old fav was Sensubean, a Tarutaru from Midgardsormr...not sure if I'll do the "carry over and get world name" bit, or just go Sensu Bean.

I believe this actually is referring to your FFXIV character. You need to create your 14 character after linking your Play Online account. Because the items are given to you upon character creation, having an existing character and then registering your accounts and codes will not work to get you the item.
