Just a heads up to those who ordered from Gamestop retail stores,

The C.E. copies will be available right at opening on Wed. the 22nd. In fact, they are already in the stores as we speak, but can't be sold due to street dates.

P.S. The box is purty, and the leather bound notebook is sweet...but i didn't see a tumbler? Only the security pass key generator and notebook.

Tumbler isn't being released in NA. I believe its either EU or EU/JP only.

This works out well. I'll be sitting in the parking lot waiting for the store to open come Wednesday. Counting the days now, it's almost GO time!

I haven't called my Gamestop yet, but is anyone's GS doing a midnight release?

According to this:

Quote:
- Official Service Launch Date
At 18:00 (PDT) on Sep. 21, 2010, early access to the Realm of Eorzea will begin. The official service is scheduled to begin on Sep. 30, 2010.
* Along with the start of early access, the download of client patch will become available.

Sounds like servers will be up in time for a midnight release to matter, so it would be sweet.

EDIT: Though I'm gonna guess not since this is the CE only release...

What is a tumbler and why aren't we getting it? ><

Is it meant for sipping tea from which is why it isn't being included? XD

According to google images, it's a bat mobile.

I believe it's a small cup, like a shot glass.

It would be cool if this were true, but from looking at the pictures I can't tell if it's meant for drinking from or rolling dice.

I think the NA people get a special certificate with your character's name and starting city on it like an pfficial birth certificate or something instead of the mug

And the little tag thing is a security device that flashed numbers up on the screen that you can use in conjuction with your password to have an extra secure login.

I was wondering about that security token, I guess to set people's worries to rest regarding key loggers XD

IMO I think they should of included death warrants instead of birth certificates lol

That's the security key, bud. And the chickens are only non-rideable for beta AFAIK.

I posted this in another thread but I guess it has relevance here.

Looks like NA misses out on the Tumbler and the Map and EU misses out on the Right of Passage.

It also says that NA gets Free Gameplay for 30 days listed as a bonus but I believe that is the 30 days free gameplay that all versions receive.

(Bah, image fail)
Both EU and US Websites mention the 30 days free gameplay. I am just curious, does the US CE get an additional 30 days on top of the 30 days that come with the game?

I have never heard of an MMO that doesn't come with the first month free.
It's not really a bonus, it's industry standard.

Yes.
ALL versions (CE, SE, varying regions) come with the first month of play free.
It might not be listed in the list of bonuses but it is there, just stated somewhere else.

APB did not come with a free 30 days. Instead it came with a free 40 hours. Of course we saw what happened to that game.

The tumbler looks like its made out of metal not glass ;) and 30 days free is in EU edition all P2P MMO's come with free time even APB as someone said...but yeah I dont think the payment model and 40 hours was really enough :P

Question to OP - How is it that Gamestop has the preorders in and they haven't ended the beta to fix anymore underlying issues? That's like having Gamestop say they got in the release before SE has shipped them.... or am I missing something...

Tumbler is most likely left out because its bad form in NA to promote drinking through "all ages" products. That being said, anything would have been better than a character 'birth certificate'.

What you get in the box is the basic structure of the game and any issues addressed are generally fixed with updates and patches. It wont take long for the DVD to load on our machines, but what will take a long time are the updates and patches. Also, most of the game is online anyway so that can be constantly updated.

Besides, how do you think they could possibly produce all the copies that every person has ordered, CE or regular, in just 3 days? There is just no way. They have probably had the DVD's and box sets of the game cut for over a month now, if not longer. Then once people get a hold of them and install them, that's when all the updating magic works. So it is very feasible that someone could have the game already when release is just 3 days away.

Generally, most games are not supposed to be released until the specific date indicated by the producers of the game, but there are always those places that sometimes manage to let a few copies leak out. Most likely they are people who work there who have the access to them, but the public consumers buying them will have to wait until they are shipped to them or until the store releases them. It doesn't bother me to think that someone working there would already have their game in hand, because NO ONE will be able to get into the game until the actual date of release. As far as I'm concerened, that's a few less people to fight for installation traffic! Lol! I would venture to say that as popular as this game is, most of the stores selling them already have at least the CE copies in order to prepare for the day they come out. My gamestop close to me has someone at the store that drives to another larger city to pick theirs up so they don't have to wait for them to be shipped and chance them not arriving on time, whenever it is such a popular game name as this.

Mine will be here on the 22nd (hopefully, since that is what my order claimed), but I won't really get to play it until the 23rd. I'm hoping to at least get it installed on the 22nd though.

Actually what ended up happening is the retail client went into Gold Master status back towards the middle of August. What Gold Master means is the game code at the time of the middle of August was sent to the manufacturing plants to be mass-pressed and boxed. The disc contains the client as it was at the middle of August.

What you will be downloading when you start the game up for the first time will be all the bug-fixes and additions that were finalized after the game went Gold Master (so, for example, the bug fixes that came as a result of the Open Beta).
