Do yourself a favor during the remainig hours of open beta, and go out and explore.
Together with my linkshell, we went deep, deep into the world as sort of a "final event".
I finally logged out on top of a mountain in a region that looked exactly like the swiss alps.
Considering all I did in the whole beta was traveling between Uldah, Limsa and Gridania, this was just HUGE.

I did something similar. While there is *some* validity to the copy/paste accusations of players, I don't think many of them ever even left the starting areas. There are some diverse and beautiful areas in the game world.

I spent like 10hrs exploring, and was far from seeing it all. So i cant be sure ofc.
There is some diversity, but not much.
the only big diversity is in the difference in the maps themselves. Like Ul-dah is desert, Gridania is forest.
Gridania mostly looks all the same.
In ul-dah there are minor differences, like theres some cactuses deeper in, otherwise its all the same.
I dont think a new type of cactus in same enviroment makes it exciting and diverse lol :)
The only real difference in enviroment in ul-dah is when you cross the bridged pathways across some chasms, in the mountains. its quite fertile, and lots of trees etc there. but ALL those areas look exactly the same too.
If the game is work-in-progress, i hope they change the landscape a bit over time, to diversify it a bit.
Still its good looking landscapes, but if you gonna spend years playing, it might be fun if the landscape changes more. even in same map.

I can't wait to see where the missions take us. Found a gate that is guarded by two people that leads to what appears to be a giant castle/city on the other side, but couldn't get through. Lots of different mobs dealing between 2k-5k damage depending on the areas I went to. Still two regions I haven't stepped foot in, and at least two regions I haven't explored 1/2 of yet. The city regions seem to be the smallest (a couple of dungeons are almost on par with the size of the city regions (or at least felt like it:)).

Uninstalling now... then starting the waiting game...:(

Great advice - I thought I'd explored but after looking at that castle in the screen shots above, it turns out I didn't do a very good job! lol

For me though, I intentionally didn't stray too far from the starting cities, because I wanted to wait til after launch to experience the wonder of discovery, instead of "Meh, been there done that during OB." I know there is still a lot of places inaccessible til after launch, but I still wanted to save them for later, when I'll be playing with my forever character. Heck, I didn't even get to Gridania, despite it being easily accessible from Ul'dah, because that will be my starting city and I don't want to spoil the feeling of a newbie adventurer when I step into that city for the first time. :)

I went exploring ... I got one shotted by a Flamedrake near an Aetheryte node (which I had just gone to and attuned myself to).

Now I can't Return or Teleport ...

I like to think someone out there did nothing but mess around with character creation for the entire beta. The scenario amuses me.

Yes it is an airship of some sort. I waited at this Screenshot for a while as it looks like it might be an airship dock, and saw one fly by there as well but it didn't land ,was hoping to get a close-up shot as it docked .
