At this point in time, I'm still not completely sure what I plan to start out as. In fact, I can't even settle on what race and what name I might be interested in. I plan on devoting a lot of time to give this some thought while I'm at work tomorrow =p Any other players still not sure of a name, race or what class they intend to work on first?

I can't even think of that until I figure out what I want my character to look like. Such a big decision! At least on the classes I can always change, but not the character's looks, argh!!

I'm sure of where the path will start...conjurer in Gridania...leveling a bit of everything, but eventually focusing on CON main along with some THM. I'll take time to do some gathering...I like all 3 of those. Crafting will be at the bottom of my priority list, but I'll do any easy synths from materials I've gathered and make use of the leves since they're there.

That path could easily change many times and I have no idea what the end result will be. Maybe I'll get more into crafting or maybe I'll decide to take my conjurer abilities to another class and create some awesome hybrid I can enjoy. All kinds of possibilities there. I'd say I have a bit of a plan, but it's a very loose one...

Just to throw it out there, I wouldn't worry too much about starting class. Once you do some questing you'll have more than enough money to purchase any starting weaponry you may wish to try out. Might be better to just choose a starting class based upon how the starting clothing/armor looks.

I'm pretty sure about how i will start the game, but there are too many things i haven't seen yet. All of which may change my plans in an instant.

I have a general guideline on starting class and area and a plan on what im gonna do the first few weeks.

Its coming down to the wire on what race i wanna start as, but if they are giving a few more hairstyles, i'll have to check them out before i make the final decision while creating my character.

Protip: If you can't think of a name, open up your media player and listen to your favorite songs, it'll come to you.

On a related note: My names going to be "Dance Commander" >->

What are some names other people are pondering? (You shouldn't really be concerned with name-jacking, there isn't a shortage of servers atm, lol)

Race wise, don't worry about stats. Just pick what you can foresee yourself staring at for a few months (Or years?)

my biggest mistake was making a galk alt to test the waters on a different server. I was fine and happy with my little taru conj/thau and then.... i picked up an axe. Assuming better gear, better weapon and some rings will get me over all that missing im completly torn now on melee or mage specialty. I rip stuff on my conj and solo wise i feel that my conj can take on more formidable foes w/out outside healing but everytime i start to lean towards conj again i look back and think...... good lord Maruader was fun.

I have spent the 12 days I have had with the open beta to whittle it down to Hyur, Miqote or Elezen for the race, with the starting class as Pugilist, Marauder or Gladiator. But then there is the Alchemist that gets to start with glasses. Basicly I spent 12 days or about 50 hours coming to no decisions and getting nowhere closer to realising what I want to be/do. Its the story of my MMO life and the same problem I had in FFXI. I had a 75 Galka Ninja, a 75 Elvaan Bard and a 75 Tarutaru Blackmage in XI as I can never settle on a race or a class....

I plan on looking for an active linkshell that uses ventrilo or something along those lines. So I want to come up with a name that isn't always mispronounced. In FFXI I had a Taru RDM named Odo. I thought to myself, there's no way anyone is going to mess this up. The first time I logged on to a linkshell's vent server they started calling me "Oh dee oh". I /facepalm'd and died a little inside.

The race is where I'm most torn...after being Galka in XI my plan was to be a roegadyn mage type. Then I got to thinking how I always pick the most badass lookin' character types & make them as evil looking as possible. I'm good at it. Plus I sort of feel the need to represent the least popular race. So lately I've been pondering the thought of going completely opposite of what I would normally do and be a lalafell...perhaps even a chick lalafell. The idea that some may assume I'm a chick IRL and talk to me as such leaves that idea as a very small possibility. I could do without those awkward moments. But this may be something I'm questioning up until I first start the game up...roegadyn or lalafell...might flip a coin...

For my two characters: race/name/starting city, I know for sure. Appearances, it took me up until now to round things out, but I'm fairly confident about both models as well (apart from hairstyle on my Miqo'te but that's presumably going to be changeable). Beginning classes... I THINK I know (Conjurer, Archer, Botanist, Weaver, Leatherworker for one; Lancer, Gladiator, Miner, Armorer, Blacksmith for the other). That doesn't include what I plan on sub-leveling though. Long-term? I have no idea. All I know is that I'll PROBABLY end up trying to max out both of their specializations/starting classes before I start expanding into more generalized territory for both of them (in other words, maybe giving the Miqo'te a straight-up DD class, or the Hyur a caster class).

This part isn't so much about a specific character's path as it is about my path as a whole... When I played FFXI, I got to a point where I really wanted to play a second character. However, my "main" was so far advanced that I felt like I wasn't doing her any justice if I were to level something on a different character. ("Why not just level it on Kaelia instead and make her more complete?") So it got to the point where I ended up starting a second character, but only if I forced myself to stick with jobs Kaelia already had leveled. Obviously, that was pretty counter-productive. I'm hoping that by starting out with two characters I will avoid feeling like I'm short-changing one or the other. My resolution for FFXIV is to just enjoy the ride, so I'm not terribly concerned about feeling like I'm getting somewhere half as fast as I should be. As long as I keep up with where my boyfriend is at, I'll be happy.

I know the feeling. So many people on these boards are planning out every detail from leveling this class first to another the next and for how long. I dont see that as fun, Im not saying its not for them though, if they enjoy that then more power to them :) I however plan on making my Lalafell Pugilist and starting in Ul'dah and from there? who knows I might level Tharu to get shock spikes for soloing..Im not sure. Im just going to take it as it comes. I do need to leveling leather working and smithing though :) need my updgrades.

All I've decided on is highlander so far, but I'm leaning towards Marauder. Haven't decided on a name yet either though. The last name thing is whats throwing me off.

I've been pretty confused about my gender for some time now.

Edit: Yeah that was a dumb way to phrase that...
