I've spent a lot for a preparing for FFXIV already (I had to get two of everything for myself and my g/f), so I'm going to give a breakdown on what I've bought, and I'm hoping to see others give their own breakdowns in response to my post. Here it goes:

FFXIV money spent:
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 460 from Tigerdirect.................. $406.91
2x Pre-order FFXIV Collector's Editions from Best Buy .... $163.10 (including taxes)
2x Wired Xbox 360 controllers from Amazon.com............. $69.32 (I think I'll prefer controllers)

Cash back bonuses:
- $25 giftcard from BestBuy (buy 2 games more than $39.99 promotion)
- $60.80 Bing cashback from Microsoft/TigerDirect promotion
- 2 downloadable copies of Just Cause 2 from TigerDirect/eVGA promotion (worth about $10 each, if sold on ebay)

Total: $639.33 or if you take off cash for the bonuses: $533.53

I had a high end PC built already, so for me it's just the collector's edition and I think I need to buy a new PS2/3 controller. Something seems off with my analog sticks. They don't return to the dead center when I let go of them, they're off by only a few millimeters but it's enough to make the camera move or my character.

Ouch, built my own 955 AMD Phenom II X4 with Radeon 5850 and a 21.5 inch monitor (already had the mouse and keyboard) = $1400 CAN
and then the controller: $50 and Game $80 = $1530

Yeah. It was weird. I waited 3 weeks for someone to contact me about shipping it back or something. They came from Newegg, so the seller must have been someone who bulk orders things for Ebay auctions.

My current computer's motherboard is ye olde and won't support a fast enough processor for the game, so I bought a new one with an AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, and other unrelated stuff. $480 (including shipping)

I also picked up an ATI Radeon HD 5770 for $140.

Then I had to upgrade my power supply, so I got a 550w one for $35.

Total cost: $655

This was an overdue computer update anyway, so FFXIV was just an excuse to do it now.

I foresee this thread turning into a "who can brag amount spending the most money" so ill just say ive spend a little too much.

1. New PC
2. Preordered the CE
3. New speakers
4. Taking a weeks vacation in a few weeks(i know thats not spending $, but a preparation nonetheless)
5. Got homework for the next 2 weeks complete(hooray for online classes who assign in advance!)

I don't think you need a new pad, it's possible to adjust the sensibility of the pad by augmenting the "Calibration" field in the game-pad configuration menu, my wife had the same problem (with a new pad) and we moved from the default value(2.0) to 3.0, if doesn't work with that you can raise it up to 5.0.

OP: I tried to sum... really I tried but I just got depressed half way through the parts and accessories... I can only hope the game live to the inversion, I'm quite confident though.
(building two computers for FFXIV was painful... )

AMD 1090t $295
Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5 $150 dollars (sale)
G.Skill 4gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram - $90

= $535

(I usually stick to corsair ram, but they're getting a bit pricey these days, and I'm not paying so much for corsair ram that'll go into my '2ndary" computer 8 months from now when I upgrade my components to AMD bulldozer compatible stuff)

Everything else is from my existing build, I have a thermaltake toughpower 850w PSU and 2 gtx 260s (main w/ 2ndary physx/cuda until I replace them, or the slipatch is fixed to work with newer nvidia drivers)

how much is the retail FFXIV? I don't even know, I only placed my pre-order and didn't give it any more attention than that.

Whoa, and here I felt bad about spending $250 for a new GPU and PSU, then a bit more for the pre-order.

I'm hoping that's not what the thread will become. I really just thought it would be cool to see what people bought in preparation for FFXIV. I'm more impressed with people who were thrifty about their spending on the items they need, rather than who spent the most.

Can't remember all the system spec and what not from my new comp, as i had a friend build it since i don't know much about PC's, and to lazy to look into it right now. the only parts i do remember are the Intel i7 (900 something), and the 2 5850 HD cards on crossfire.

New Custom Build comp, new accessories, and FFXIV CE paid in full. I'm sitting just under $2,500.

Worth every penny. Was in open beta, ran the game on 1080 with everything set to highest, connected to my 55" LED TV, and everything ran crisp and smooth, everything was seamless and beautiful. Only problem I ever came across was the stuttering of the name when you go up or down ramps or elevated surfaces.

This is a sad thread...

Now if SE was really smart, they'd be offering pre-built high end computers (probably with some sort of customized XIV case) for sale directly through SE, given how many people wanted to upgrade their computers. I mean, otherwise, all the money spent goes towards a different company.

I wouldn't buy prebuilt, anyway. My last prebuilt was something like a dell, about 9 years ago.

They do/will offer a pre-built, probably in Japan only, but you'd have to be crazy to actually buy it!
http://ffxiv.zam.com/Im/Image/177395

It would have been smarter if they teamed up with Nvidia to offer a discount on FFXIV or a bonus item if you bought an Nvidia video card, rather than teaming up with Nvidia to add 3D features to the PC version only- which the majority of people won't use anyway.

Not entirely. You can turn the hexacore into a pretty bad *** 3 core cpu. Shutting off 3 cores will juice up the other 3. That's before overclocking. Not to mention, that it's still a good CPU for multitasking. For those of us that will use our pc's for other things as well as gaming.

Your mobo will bottleneck your pc.
Your mobo's FSB is only 2600MHz where as your cpu is 4000MHz :(
Means you are getting less than 75% of your cpu's abilities...

The general idea behind Turbo Core (and Turbo Boost) is that many applications don't take full advantage of multicore processors, leaving quite a bit of wasted potential as unused cores lie dormant. Turbo Core and Turbo Boost propose to fill in that gap, increasing performance of those cores that are in use, while maintaining the chip's particular power and heat thresholds. In the upcoming Phenom II X6, the Turbo Core feature will kick in when three or more cores aren't being used, automatically overclocking the cores that aren't idle up to a reported 500MHz.

I'm not trying to sell you on the cpu lol, just trying to help you make an informed choice. :)

My PC was good for it already, so just the price of two standard editions.

I think if they offered a premade PC for it it would probably be more than the cost of building said PC yourself, since they have to make money off of it.

That's the total for this thread. Apparently people don't like seeing that information, lol.

Your mobo will bottleneck your pc.
Your mobo's FSB is only 2600MHz where as your cpu is 4000MHz :(
Means you are getting less than 75% of your cpu's abilities...

He'll be safe. AMD's Hyper Transport speeds operate somewhat in the way that DDR RAM lists its speeds. The MT/s is the actual transfer rate, which is 5200 (2600 * 2) for that particular motherboard, so his 4000MHz CPU will be good to go and then some. 2600MHz (5200MT/s) is actually the highest "FSB" you can find on AMD boards today, I think.

Back on topic, I've probably spent too much as well, but I think it was just about time for an upgrade so I'm not too worried about it. I was running an old, aging dual core AMD system which was just about as upgraded as it could get before needing a motherboard upgrade.

I spent about $800-$900 switching over to an i7 based system and on the FFXIV game itself. Not too bad I suppose. There'll definitely be other games that I'll be able to enjoy with this new PC. Finding some great deals certainly helped. I ended up with an i7 930, HD5970 (got this at 5870 prices) and 3x2GB triple channel 2000MHz RAM so I'm pretty happy with it :)

It's all I could afford after splurging on the rest. It ran the beta well enough to make me happy, didn't have any lagging, no skipping, and nice resolution.

I bought a wireless Xbox controller for PC, but I needed another for my Xbox anyway and of course I preordered the CE.

Not too much.

My computer is a couple of years old, but I replace parts piecemeal and did my last upgrade in march so I wouldn't really count it for ffxiv.
