I guess I am quite lucky. I have an old pc that has an 8800 GT. The game plays quite well, but may chunk here and there; I am hoping that over the next few months the game performance is tweaked a bit. So.. I guess for me after tax, it ends up being $85.

I do find it hilarious how many people are buying new desks for this game.

$1600...but I bought and built my PC from scratch so I can't really complain. It's doubling as an HTPC also so I love that. Got the OS and the game on a SSD and keep movies etc... on a good 'ol 1TB HDD. This includes the cost of the CE with next day shipping and an Xbox 360 for Windows controller.

1 Gigabyte GTX 460 1 GB - € 289
2 630 Watt powersupply - € 110
3 Man hour to build it in - € 17
4 Dualshock 3 sixaxis - € 58
5 Cable for the Dualshock - € 10
6 Pre-order CE edition - £46.43

Not sure how much EURO that is, I pre-ordered with amazon when the SE mail was sent out early July. And the sixaxis is for my PS3, my old dualshock 2 is now perma-hooked to my PC.

Overall I'm very happy. Changing just this I went from 1024x768 with all ingame options turned off and the config settings all on their lowest possible settings and still not being able to walk decently with a Geforce 7600 GS to 1280x1024 with all ingame options on and config settings at max with 4x AA and I only get hickups when I want to run around before the surrounding area has loaded.

It does make a little more noise, not sure if it's the 630 Watt PSU or the double fanned video card.

I dunno man, you might have to run on lowest settings to get it smooth.

My previous rig.
q6600 quad core 2.4ghz Overclocked to 3.4ghz
2 Geforce 8800 GTs in SLI
4gb ram

and I was just barely smooth with lowest settings in beta.

As far as what I spent. $1300 for upgrading my PC. I wouldnt say it was for FFXIV specifically. It was just about time.

I dunno man, you might have to run on lowest settings to get it smooth.

I'm not so sure, I have a Pentium D as well at 3.4 GHz and the vid card really was the bottleneck in my system, the beta became more then playable at high settings.

But like I said, I still get a noticable slowdown when teleporting but that is probably my harddrive loading all the data and I want to move to soon, sometimes I notice it when background music changes too.

I don't know how the HD5770 compares to the GTX 460 I got though.

Edit: Found a interesting thread on Tom's: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/293177-15-hd5770
It would seem the GTX is better.

Keep in mind we (my wife and I) were already overdue for an upgrade, so FFXIV was kind of just the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.

Also keep in mind I am in Australia, where we pay a bit more for our PC components/electronics.

*Machine 1*
Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard: $599
I7-930 CPU: $350
6gb DDR3 RAM: $219
Two Asus GTX 480s in SLI: $1,238
Case: free (used old case($299))
Antec TPQ 1200w OC edition PSU: $350
Custom water cooling that has gotten out of hand (and is still growing): $1300+
Dell 30" 3008wfp monitor: $1,500 ($500 off from stacked rebates and coupons, from $2,000)
2nd 24" monitor: free (old monitor ($299))
Filco Majestouch mechanical keyboard: $195
Razer Mamba: free (old mouse($250))

*Machine2*
Asus p6x58d-e motherboard: $289
i7930 CPU: $350
6gb DDR3 RAM: $199
Asus HD5870: free (I put my old one in her new rig($499))
New Case: $129
Antec Signature Series 850w PSU: free (used my old one($289))
Aftermarket CPU cooler: free (used my old one ($139))
Apple aluminum keyboard: $69
New mouse: $99
Monitor: free (used old monitor ($199)

Total for both machines, not counting reused components: $6,886
Total for both machines, including reused components: $8,860

The two were built about a month apart, and the monitor was purchased a month before the first machine was built, so it wasn't so bad because the expenses were split into separate chunks.

Well first I went out and bought a new HDTV (500$) and a PS3 (300$). A few weeks later SE announced that the PS3 version would be delayed. So then I had to go out and build a new PC (1,000$). After that I pre-ordered the collectors edition (75$).

Grand Total: 1,875$

What components are you using in your liquid cooling system? I went fairly top of the line and didn't exceed $600.

EK Supreme HF Full Nickel block
Swiftech MCP655 Pump with Speed Controller
HW Labs - Black Ice GTX480 Radiator
PrimoChill Typhoon Reservoir
Bitspower 1/2" Barb fittings
PrimoFlex PrimoChill 1/2" tubing
PrimoChill Zinc plated shielded hose clamps
Petra'sTech PT Nuke Concentrated Biocide

I built my PC back in late 2008 before FFXIV was even announced, and I haven't had to upgrade anything for it. So I've only spent $5, which was for my pre-order :)

I am including the dremel I bought to mod my case as well in that, but:

Swiftech Apogee XT
EK-FC480 GTX - Acetal+Nickel (x2, one for each GPU)
XSPC Acrylic Dual 5.25” Reservoir
Liang D5 pump
XSPC RX480 Radiator
Primochill tubing
Primochill steel spring hose clamps
True silver fittings
Bitspower 90° fittings
Bitspower plug
Acetal 3 way split
Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15 fans
Pure silver 3mm thick wire 12cm long
Bunch of other little misc things that actually add up to be quite a bit

Water cooling gear costs a lot more out here than in the states. I was tempted to order everything from the US and just pay the shipping (would have been considerably cheaper even with the shipping costs) but I don't do that anymore for computer equipment, because of how much it sucks when something is faulty.

I need more rad for my setup, with those GTX 480s. I'm thinking of doing a second loop to keep the heat from the GPUs out of my CPU.

I've spent, on FFXIV:

1$ (after money I got for selling my G15) - G19 keyboard
$50 - FFXIV

Shortly before FFXIV beta (on a whim, not because of the game)

2x Radeon HD5770 1GB video cards
64GB MLC SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
8GB DD3 1600 RAM
motherboard to fit it all
n52te mini-keyboard/controller
24" LCD monitor (to match my other one)
total cost: about $1100, give or take, after rebates. And worth every penny.

How long ago did G19 come out? My wife just snagged me a G15 from newegg for 50% off $35 bucks. Then I saw they had the G19 but that was a bit to expensive for a keyboard for me. Plus she let me spend the $1300 for upgrades.

G19 has been out for roughly 1.5-2 years already. Was about $150 originally.
