Does anyone know when we should start expecting some reviews for the game?

I got to play the game for a few hours and loved it, and it's a definite purchase for me, but I'm still intrigued to see how major gaming sites/magazines rate the game. It's always comical to spot inconsistency on websites like Gamespot and IGN.

How does everyone think it will fare?

Oh I completely agree, basing your purchase on magazine/website reviews isn't the best idea. I was just wondering purely out of curiosity. I can't play this game on release, it's just interesting to compare reviews of FFXIV with other in the genre.

I played it, I know I enjoyed it, I know I will be buying it some day.

Unless SE overhauled the UI for retail, mainstream media outlets are going to trash the game. Most people who do reviews on the game either don't have or don't take the time to let a game grow on them. They may or may not appreciate the intro sequences and I hope like **** that they either don't start in Gridania or SE has removed the ridiculous instanced emote quest. That in of itself would be enough to sour all but the most objective reviewers on the game. The restrictions SE currently has in place (anima, levequests vs. time, "bonus" xp system) are likely to come under heavy fire. You have to be willing to work your way through the learning curve and accept that SE takes a different approach to gaming than most other MMO developers in order to appreciate the game, and I don't see too many NA/EU sites as being willing to do that. ****, there are a lot of people who claim to love the franchise and love the concept and all that other stuff who are already whining that the game is too hard/confusing, so what chances does SE have of getting a positive review from someone who is only reviewing the game because their job requires it?

It's going to get savaged by the gaming press.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

I think it's going to be destroyed in NA reviews. I'm predicting an 80% on metacritic.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

How is someone playing 30 hrs of a MMORPG in it's first weeks able to tell anything about the service as a whole?

If you want answers then good luck trying to find reviews for XI.

There aren't many and most don't even make any sense now since so many of the features have been changed.

I actually am expecting pretty decent 84% reviews since the game is so accessible and one can play it for a while like a brainless hack and slasher. The depth of the crafting systems might be mentioned in a line or two but those who have been serious about any craft in XI know that the whole system changes the way you play the game.

I do hope that there will be some reviews but do I care personally? Not so much. Have you seen a good review of any MMORPGs yet?

I love to read review especially EDGE and Desturctoid but I just think they're in the wrong format to review games this long. It would be like saying: "The beginning of Casablanca is so slow paced I stopped watching. 1 out of 5 stars!"

Next week maybe, it's hard to tell. I know FFXI was reviewed months after launch by IGN. Don't in the next few days because it would a review on open beta or a bias reviewed. Every site I checked has about a 10 to 30 days later review date from the release.
