Repairing the Repair SystemFollow

I don't think I need to go into detail on this, but I find it to be just short of an abomination. I urge people to add to the existing thread on this subject over in the Feedback Forum. As of now this is my only real concern with the game. So please, if you have the time, do yourselves a favor and post.

Yeah the repair system right now is horrible to deal with. For one thing, crafting is **** on gear, i can take 100% durability gear down to <25% in 5-7 crafts.

The there is the logistical problem of needing 4-5 craft classes leveled to keep your gear in shape, not to mention needing to keep repair items on your person for when you need to repair, OR the problem of hoping to find someone at random who can repair something you can't. Then the sheer number of things you can wear, ALL of which will need repair at some point. The awkwardness of not being able to see durability anywhere but the inventory screen (i.e. you can't see it in the equip screen...!?)

and my biggest complaint. jewelry needing repairs. when you can wear 8 pieces of jewelry its pretty lame that every single one will need to be repaired at some point.

If SE wants repairs to work they either need to slow the rate degradation WAAAAAAY down, so that repairs are so few and far between that a system of players can be established to do repairs in a reliable manner... or... well no thats about the only way I can think of where it would really work.

and heaven forbid they ever get the bright idea to give mobs moves that specifically break things... nightmares of fighting knights in fft and having them break something irreplaceable... granted it wouldn't destroy the item... but how horribly inconvenient it will be to be off on a grand adventure only to have something important break.

I think you lose durability when you repair an item. I was repairing a ring and afterwords the red durability icon popped up.

I can't decide if that is hilarious or ludicrous...

It's funny that you would bring this up. I've never played an MMO besides FFXI, so the whole "durability" thing is completely new to me. A friend & I were talking about the repair system today and he mentioned that in other games, if you let your item wear all the way and still use it, they could break. No matter if it was a 100 million dollar item or a 5 dollar item.

Now, as of yet I've heard nothing of items breaking. But I'll be pretty mad if they do. Especially at the extremely fast rate that everything seems to be wearing out.

Your friend might have done well to explain to you what it means in most MMOs when your gear "breaks". Generally speaking, when your gear is broken it just means that it functions as though the gear slot containing the broken item is empty until you get the gear repaired. I would expect SE to take the same approach with XIV, otherwise there's really no point to the durability system at all.

as much as I agree with you..... Let me point out that there currently is no "as of right now"... They've already seen a huge amount of feedback from the beta(s), so we have no idea what's going to happen come retail. there's a good chance they've already modified the **** out of repair/durability for retail. however if it stays as is then yeah it'll need "repair" =p

That is a good point... we don't know what the launch will bring... but as of right now is still valid, because as of right now, we have the beta for reference. When the launch comes we will see, but as of right now, the repair system in the beta was flawed.
