Hope this is ok to post, if not feel free to delete!... Not posting any links or anything, just that the game appears to have been leaked and has been seen on torrent sites. Don't ask where, if you want it I'm sure you can find it. Not sure how helpful it'll be, but may be interesting to some!

Also not sure if it's good or not, we'll find out!

The only benefits to getting a torrent is to get a virus and/or have your game fully updated for when you do get your physical copy so you can log in and play once the server goes live unless SE changes the login process since you can update your game before you log in.

So it's a double-edged thing basically.

It is very helpful, you can connect to the patch servers without the registration code.

The game software is indeed worthless without the registration codes. Sure, you can patch, but you're really only saving yourself a small amount of time.

A word of caution: Be very careful downloading things like this. It's pretty easy to get your PC infected with a virus with things like this. Use at your own risk.

There are seeds, just the trackers are bein weird. Mine's coming up with one seed currently. And yes I agree it's a double edged sword, which is another reason I won't be sharing links :P Download responsibly and intelligently!

I hope this discussion so far isn't breaking any rules for this forum. As we're not posting any links, though, and it's not like we can actually "steal" the game anyway I hope it's ok.

I just want a copy of the game so I can play on my friend's account sporadically to see how the game runs. He owes me after I let him play on my closed beta account for a few months.

As for people worrying about viruses, yes it's technically true that someone could slip a virus into the ISO, but in practice it doesn't happen nearly as much as people claim. It's extremely rare at best, and not hard to stay safe on the unlikely occasion that there is one there.

It would be like saying that you could die in a car crash whenever someone suggests driving somewhere. Technically true, realistically unlikely, and there are safety measures in place anyway (seatbelts).

It's a fresh torrent, that's how they always start out. As long as the uploader (the 1 seed) sticks around for it to finish, those peers will start turning into seeds eventually.

Does anyone know for sure that the retail will allow us to patch without logging in? there's a good chance it'll differ significantly from the beta.

Maybe we can check with one of the folks who got an early copy.

(I'm sure we at least can't start patching until the servers pop, or close to then, but we'll see! Either way we could hopefully get started at JP launch time instead of waiting til we get the game here)

Well for the moment I've got about 1 MB/s up and 400 kb/s down. Already about halfway finished with the current amount of available content. :X

Agreed. Its pretty uncommon to see torrents that have viruses in them without either being flagged or having feedback that says there is a legitimate problem with it (sometimes some keygens trigger AV scanners all the time). I've never heard of them being packed in ISO's. While I don't doubt it could happen, i'm sure its very rare if it ever has.

I've also never heard of a .iso having a virus packed in it. I work tech support for a living, so if it happened I'd have heard of it.

That said, it definitely CAN happen. I could do it myself if I wanted, but people that post .iso on torrent sites are usually part of a cracking group or just trying to share a game client/music CD/etc. and the torrent sites themselves (if legitimate sites) will flag bad files and/or remove them right away.

Torrenting these days is pretty safe, as long as you use legitimate sites. Limewire and similar P2P software are still a cesspit of viruses and malware and should be avoided at all costs. Anything limewire can do, torrents can do better.

The ISO will consist of what is on the disk, so no, you will not need to download it.

All this ISO does is allow people to install the game without having a copy of the disk. ie install the game right now.

Chances are that if you are asking these questions, its better for you to just wait until you have a copy of the game on disk.

I wouldn't mind downloading it in advance of the 30th. My ISP throttles torrents so patching via torrents during the beta was a pain. But that also means downloading the ISO would take ages. I may be better off just waiting for the 30th.

Maybe by then the patch will be hosted someplace else for a direct download.

It's actually really useful for people like me, that is to say, living in east asian countries not listed by SE. Why? Because beside having the game shipped from Europe or USA and having to pay a extra fee/wait quite some time, we can buy the game from people willing to sell their CD key on Ebay/Taobao (for China, my current location). It's not a scam and it's pretty common here, regular shops will use their connections in USA or Japan to buy the real thing, then then they scan the code and sell it to you for slightly less than the real price. Most of the foreigner I know here are getting their games this way, and it's almost 100% safe, provided that u pick a well-established seller.

says no seeders but the tracker isn't working properly, it actually has around 500 seeders. This is just so you can install the game before buying it so when you buy it you can just register your stuff and start playing.

That's the same torrent. There was only 1 seeder all day yesterday, but then he finally finished uploading one full iso to someone, and by that time there were several hundred people within a percent of finishing so it quickly cascaded down and now there are more than enough seeds.

How about a link to a non-private tracker? ^^; I'm buying the game and paying my monthly fee like anyone else, I just have to rely on your kindness to find myself a client... Feel free to ban me if it's too much to ask. I wish SE would think in terms of REAL globalization. Life is tough for expats sometimes :/

According to Square-Enix the only difference between the installs is the default language is set to the correct region. So - regardless of what region it is, it shouldn't matter.

Two questions:

1) About how long does it take to download the entire game? Like on a 10mb/s connection?

2) I'm not fully fluent in iso/torrent speak... But I know u need something else to make the iso appear to be a cd. Can anyone point me in the direction of that?

You can do one of the following options to install the ISO....

A. Burn it to a disc using any image burning tool (Windows 7 can do this natively, or download imgburn from imgburn.com)

B. Extract using Winrar, and run the executable

C. Mount the ISO with an application such as Alcohol 52% or Alcohol 120%. Alcohol 52% is a free download. This is the method I recommend. http://mirror.free-downloads.net/3/Alcohol52_FE_2.0.1.2033.exe

I downloaded the ISO tonight and also ran the patch updates. The torrent has a lot of seeds now and downloaded pretty fast for me (only about 3 hours to download the whole ISO - using uTorrent - make sure you have the right ports open for optimal speed). The patching process after I installed the game was quite fast as well - I think only took around 20 minutes - again I had the ports open for the patching from SE servers - port 55296 TCP/UDP I believe is all you need in case you haven't seen this info before - this port is what is set by default for the UPnP Port Mapping Port under the Network tab in the FFXIV configuration utility. You can change this to any port in the 55296 - 55551 range if you needed to for some reason.

Just thought I'd pass this info on - might save you some time and headaches regarding potential server congestion tomorrow.

The RAR'd ISO is 4.61 GB. Feel free to not download it at all though, I don't really care.

Actually, after installing, the game folder is only 9.41 GB. It contains 137,454 files and 19,251 folders, though. That seems like an awful lot.
