Well I just contacted them via contact form to cancel all charges on my card and stop the confirm card status. They charged me a total of $7 today, and while it's going on my CAB account, I don't see how that's going to help me pay for XIV :(

@elmoreb
Regarding your silly comment, its quite simple. SE didn't explain everything and they are going assbackwards with payment methods again. I'd rather use paypal, at least ive heard of them >.>

It's not just you, but SE didn't do a good job of the handoff to C&B. Though I'm probably one of the only people who was perfectly happy with POL (granted I cancelled in 2008 before all the "verified" and whatever requirements), so I'm sure my input's invalid. XD

But the process is a little confusing without much feedback about what's going on based on what you're doing. It'd be so much simpler if they had just done something like with POL or anything else on SE's side, take our info, run it through whatever processor they want, and let us manage it through a "real" SE page rather than being on a third-party site.

The reason SE have handed off all the payment stuff is because they don't want to get involved in PCI compliance (credit card regulatory requirements) - all a pita and if not fully compliant by the end of the year, potential fines of £250k+ per annum. Can't really blame them for that ...

Why they picked non-entity payment transaction firms is another question of course - C&B doesn't even recognise my address, and my Crysta ordering via Ultimate / Paypal is failing with a useless error message. All as helpful as a chocolate teapot ...

Yeah, they just load up a predetermined URL that's for setting up an account. Though if you log in, it seems like all you can do is authorize Easy Collect.

I read quite a few posts in this thread before I tried setting up my payment account through this clickandbuy and was expecting to have an aneurysm by the end of it.But it actually went pretty hassle free and easy for me.I agree that SE should have just did it all themselves, but have other options for people without credit cards.
Also I noticed there's a small discount if you pay for 90 days of service at once. Not sure if i figured it out right but It looks as though it will cost $35.97 for 90 days of service where as if you do it each individual month, 90 days worth will cost $38.97 . this is according to info on the Loadstone page.

Honestly they can keep the change and you need to stop obsessing over the small amounts of crysta that stay in your SE account. 100 Crysta is only 1 dollar, euro, pound remember?

Hmmm... I tried to add my son's account to my C&B account that I set up this morning. I logged into his SqEnix account and selected the update/add payment. It took me to the C&B site where I logged into my account. Clicking "next" gave me an error.

When I tried again from his SqEnix account it said that the payment option was already set up. I'm not sure if it's okay or not but he will be kinda cranky after school tomorrow if he can't play. I guess I'll just wait and see.

Just to clarify, if you are using your CC/Debit Card for a normal recurring monthly fee, there is no need to do anything on CaB's side. The registration is handled entirely through SEs payment page, and you do not have to verify anything. CaB sends a $2.50 charge to your account ( credited immediately, though most banks dont handle credits that way so it likely wont appear that way at first), which is all done behind the scenes, so no action is needed on your part.

For 99% of people out there, there is no difference in this method and other games that take direct payments. I didnt even know there was a 3rd party involved until I recieved the email. I would have known sooner if I had read the less essential bits of info, but I tend to skim.

I do think that you have to cancel your sub through CaB though, which isnt as clear as it could be.

I believe some people will need to verify their CaB CC by confirming two "$1.XX" payments. It could be triggered by fraud protection on the CC. This will depend on the individual person's CC company and account. The email I was sent said my account was temporarily locked. Therefore, SE, nor anyone else would be able to bill. This might not affect the first 30 days, but it could be an issue thereafter. I just took care of the issue right away by jumping through their "$1.XX" hoops, just to be safe. I was told my account was temporarily locked in an email that came several hours after I had set up my account. Maybe there was a problem with the initial $2.50, like it was rejected or questioned by my CC company behind the scenes -- which then triggered the automated "temporary locked" email from CaB.

Um... I don't like giving away money for free?

Honestly, I'd probably go with Crysta over ClickAndBuy even KNOWING how the math works out just because I trust SE more than I trust random UK Company 67 that I've never heard of before now.

The final math was only there for anyone who was curious like I was, how long it would actually take to zero your account. If it really bothered you, you should have just ignored it and not moused over the redacted text

Here's a good reason to ditch Click and Buy. I just found this on their site:

Quote:
When do the fees have to be paid?

Here is a breakdown of all fees that can be incurred when using our special services.

* Risk premium for payments via credit card
Depositing money on your ClickandBuy account using a credit card is associated with greater risk for ClickandBuy. For this reason, we add a risk premium of 3.9 % to the value of the transaction.

The following payment methods are not associated with any risk for ClickandBuy: direct debit, online banking transfer and transfer. For this reason, no fee is charged using these payment methods.

* Risk premium for disbursements to an unconfirmed bank account
Disbursements from your ClickandBuy account to an unconfirmed bank account are associated with greater risk for ClickandBuy. For this reason, we add a risk premium of 1.50 USD to the value of the transaction.

> Important note: This fee is only charged in countries in which the confirmation of bank accounts is possible (Germany, for example). Countries in which it is not possible to register bank accounts with ClickandBuy and thus to confirm them, are naturally not subject to this fee.

Disbursements to a confirmed bank account are – usually – not associated with any risk for ClickandBuy. For this reason, no service fee is charged using when disbursements are made.

They want a 3.9% service fee for paying with a credit card! Click and Buy account closed. Going with Crysta -> Ultimate Pay -> PayPal

Has anyone actually been able to successfully add Crysta to their account yet? I've tried 2 methods and they are both failing for some reason:

1) I have a valid and funded Paypal account. When I try to pay with PayPal , the transactions get cancelled. Paypal is showing these payments as being rejected by the merchant for some reason.

2) I also have a ClickAndBuy account which has been verified with my credit card as well (already confirmed the 2 small charges that they do for verification). When I try to submit payment with this, I get this cryptic error message:

******************
An error has occurred.
Please confirm the status of any relevant options and then try again.
For details, please contact the Square Enix Support Center.
(Error code: 401)
******************

The only method I haven't tried yet is using an Ultimate Gamer Card...

I have to agree with most opinions here - this is a ridiculous way to handle customer payments on SE's end.

Um, so you are saying that if I use a CC on CaB that it takes money out of my CC account? I just don't think that is how it works unless I want to have a running balance through CaB.

I figured that if I set up my CC to be billed it (CaB) would take out the monthly payment from my card and then give it to SE... I really just do not see them taking my CC and making a balance on their site without me agreeing to it every time they do it.

I set up my CC this morning via CaB and I wasn't told I had to verify ANYTHING. The website just told me that I was verified and my payment method was suuccessfully recorded.

Also, the way I see it... the 3.9% fee is only for the people who WANT a balance with CaB, and not the people who just want to pay monthly.

I could be wrong, but I would have to see some clarifying announcement via SE on this before I would just read CaB's site and automatically think bad thoughts.

I do not want to have to have any company gather up funds (and hold the funds) from my bank account (CC) on a monthly basis in order to pay another company. And paying Paypal so they can pay the other place so they can pay for some Crysta crap is just stupid too.

My concern is... if I wanted to pay for an extra character ($3/month)... do I have to use Crysta or can I just use the CC...

Errr ... that's not how I read it. They're saying if you want to DEPOSIT funds into your CandB account WITH a Credit Card (as opposed to a bank account), they will charge you 3.9% interest. It's kind of like if you want to do a cash advance with your credit card. An interest % is ALWAYS added. They are NOT saying if you want to pay with your credit card.

Everyone needs to stop getting all paranoid and spreading false information. CaB, while not the "polished" payment company that PayPal is, is essentially the same thing as PayPal. The 3.9% is for using the CaB as a "holding" fund for money that you're going to use...which essentially turns them into the bank...at which point they take a portion of the deposit to fund their business and insurance needs for handling funds. This can be compared to how PayPal takes a % of Credit Card based transactions as a merchant fund handler...yet no one is calling PayPal shady.

If you don't understand, do not stand on a soapbox and scream "Scam!" to upset other people. I'm sure a lot of people haven't had any problem using CaB so far in terms of getting registered and whatnot, so if you're having problems, just relay the information appropriately to try to get a response, or contact CaB directly. Smiley: wink

Edit: I meant to point this out in my first paragraph. Using CaB as a 3rd party "buffer" to simply handle the CC transaction costs nothing. Nada. Zilch. It's a means for SE to do business without having to deal with the merchant end of accepting CC's. They're simply passing the buck...probably to help CaB grow as a smaller online funds company. I'm sure if anything "shady" was happening, a large reputable company like Square-Enix would pull the plug immediately provided there is logical and actual proof of such shady-ness.

Well what I want to know is this: once I set up my credit card with CaB who exactly bills my account? CaB or SE? The issues I've been having with CaB stems from my bank not allowing international transfers without my prior approval. Found out this morning after my credit card was locked.

If CaB handles the transaction that means every single month I need to call my bank in advance and flag an authorization otherwise fraud protection kicks in and locks my credit card.

As much as I hate the idea of using UltimatePay it looks like it's the better alternative to using CaB.

This annoying site set off fraud protection i didn't know i had.Two robot phone calls one live one and 5 emails to two accounts all for a $1.71 , $1.54 and $2.50.I checked online banking to get the numbers in the account holds section and it cleared at click and buy. I didn't read anything about a $2.50 charge but they have 3 of those on my account maybe it's a glitch. I spent $300 on Pay Pal today without a whimper but this site was insane.

The good news is I just discovered you can pay with your PayPal account almost directly to SE. The transaction goes through and is handled by PlaySpan (UltimatePay), but you don't have to make an account with them or deal with them in any way. Of course this is only if you want to use Crysta, but it's a lot better than dealing with Fraud Protection flags and this overall seedy CaB deal.

Congratulations to those who managed to make CaB work for them without hassle, but the entire company as a whole can kiss the blackest part of my ***.

I live in Canada and for 500 crysta:

PayPal: 5.14
Ultimate Game Card: 5.44 (Not including the tax I get charged for purchasing it at the store; walmart, 7-11, etc)
Ukash: 4.00 EUROS (No idea what Ukash is)
E-Wallet: 5.00 ???
Click and Buy: 5.48 (Converted by their company from USD at a rate of 0.912792. No idea if this includes their conversion fee or not. Will there be added tax as well? I do not know.)

If I use CaB for just the monthly fee I imagine it will be somewhere between 14.50 - 15.50 CAD. What is my best option here?

Why am I even putting up with all this crap again?

While not difficult, it is jumping through more hoops than most every other MMO on the market.

The entire purpose of an MMO is to get a strong subscriber base going and live off the profits. If you make it unnecessarily hard for people to give you their money, you've missed a huge opportunity.

I hope someone post how to by Crysta with click and Buy in forum soon. That sight had security up to the hilt with the type in the word case sensitive thing to move on.My bank called me before i even left the site it was a fun 45 min to sign up for what should have took ten minutes. The load stone site was down so i'm counting on more people to do the math on the minuscule saving of 1 or 2 characters for six months of Crysta. Thanks in advance.

My guess is that the initial $2.50 charge is primarily to make sure your fraud protection doesn't lock up your card. I know my Chase card's fraud protection was triggered and I had to confirm the charge. So when they follow-up with the two small charges, it will not reject them.

I would assume that we do not have to wait to confirm our credit card account before we can play. Worse case, just pay with Paypal for the initial month, then setup auto pay with C&P thereafter.

Ahh I forgot about the international transaction fee's that most NA credit cards charge for each transaction. Those probably can not be credited back. What an ***-backward system they have provided here. Half the sh*t SE does appears to have no logic behind it. I mean, what exactly did they perceive the benefit of such a system to be?

Set up my CaB account yesterday. Got the CC (Visa debit card) to verify within seconds.

Called my bank (Arvest Bank) about 5min ago to see if they charged an international/overseas charge. They allow overseas charges to the account if the card is used as a credit/debit card, and they do NOT charge anything unless I am actually overseas and I draw out the money from an ATM... then it is like a $3 charge for the ATM transaction.

It might be time for some of you to upgrade your Bank to a Bank +1.

I went with CaB through SE. They've taken payments from my account, but I received no email and when I tried to log into the CaB site, it said my email address wasn't recognized. Going to use crysta and tell my bank to block all CaB transactions.

Click and Buy can go burn in ****...

All the way out in Germany?!? REALLY?!?!?!?!?

So here's the deal... if Square Enix doesnt process it directly through their website, you have to go to their website and sign up for the account, and you account gets put on hold until you send them a picture or legible copy of your drivers license for them to take the hold off of your account. BS i say... BS.

Ok, this is what seems to be happening to most people getting transaction error 500 from Click and Buy. The authorization sent to my credit card was actually coming from the UK, so the credit card company flagged it as a security issue. After several attempts on 2 different cards, one of my credit card companies actually called me to confirm my recent activity.

Whether they call you or not, if you get this error you need to talk to someone at your credit card company (not the people at Click and Buy) and ask them to authorize the transaction. Once they disable the security flag, your transaction should go through. If it still isn't working, wait about 15 minutes and try again because sometimes it takes the system a few minutes to update.

Also, don't be freaked out if they tell you that Click and Buy is trying to authorize a transaction for $2.50. Companies like this have to send through an authorization to make sure your card is valid. An authorization is NOT a charge and will usually only hold for up to 7 days.

Another thing, I went directly through Click and Buy to open my account (not through SE because I figured their servers were congested enough) and I did not have to provide a drivers license or anything. All I had to do was get my credit card company to lift their security flag.

So......after three pages of posts, and a lot of interesting stories about people trying to pay the monthly subscription fee using gold doubloons, itunes giftcards, and inserting quarters into their computers:

IS PAYING VIA ULTIMATE PAY / PAY PAL THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, I look forward to your responses.

It is a charge, actually, and some Credit Cards have limited free transactions or even a fee for every transaction no matter how small. Just an FYI for people that don't have problems with this loopy "Authorization" business: A lot of people do.

What they need to do is set up the Crysta payments like PSN purchases can be done. You can choose to get that exact amount instead of having to get 15$ worth every time.

It was for me. Even though it was "through" UltimatePay (PlaySpan is what showed up on my statement and emails) I was never required to make an account with UltimatePay. I simply selected the UltimatePay option on the Add Crysta page and clicked the PayPal tab on the following pop-up. I logged into my PayPal account, confirmed the order, and I was done. I got about 3 different emails (from both SE and from PlaySpan) confirming my transaction and the Crysta appeared in my SE account.

For me at least this was leaps and bounds faster and more efficient than dealing with CaB, but I've had my PayPal account active and verified for years. I don't know how much of a hangup it would cause someone opening a new account (since they verify accounts similar to how CaB does, but they aren't overseas so you don't have to worry about international transactions flagging fraud protection depending on your bank and location).

I have been trying the clickandbuy and I am not impressed. I get the regular edition of FFXIV next week, so I was testing the water, and getting lined out. They say it can take up to 3 business days for the transactions to show up on my credit card statement. Tomorrow is the last day. I authorized my credit card company for the transactions and clickandbuy has temp. banned my account since it set off my credit card's fraud system. On Friday I will delete my registration at clickandbuy if it is not resolved. It really shouldn't be this difficult. I really prefer a mmo to have auto-pay, and I have only had this kind of issue with PoL FFXI and clickandbuy FFXIV.

Now I have to dig out my old paypall account...where did I put that thing...

*Edit

Found it! Impossible to Gauge Paypall. And it is a verified account, so I have my backup plan set in motion.

With your verified account does PayPal withdraw directly from your bank/cc/etc? I have PayPal set up to withdraw from my bank account for purchases, which has worked fine in the past, but I'm wondering if it will work for this.

Yes, it came straight out of my checking account.
