ClickandBuy Payment Option from SE...Follow

Reading this thread has me kind of confused, I suppose. I set up my ClickandBuy account yesterday and didn't have any issues. I already have a CaB account because I've purchased Steam games using it quite a few times in the past. I'd rather use PayPal, but I haven't ever had anything weird or any extra charges occur. I guess I won't know until they finally try to charge me for XIV, but so far it doesn't seem like anything's wrong yet. I'm not paying with Crysta, just recurring payments just like I do with other MMOs. I figure if I'm paying with my credit card anyway, there's not really much point to using Crysta.

After much anger and to the point of about to send this game back due to the click and buy issue i found that if u have an invalid card call the number on the back. the visa card i was using would show up as invalid due to the the charge showing up as a fraud issue, for the last ditch effort i called the number on the back of my card told them what was going on and was transfered to the security dept. and everything was explained, they cleared my card for 24 hrs so the transaction could go threw. now in a month i may have the problem again but ill deal with it when i comes along. hope this will help some ppl having issues with the invalid cards

Click and Buy is broken, and their CS reps are utterly non-responsive. Ultimate Pay would only let me buy Crysta using certain payment methods linked to my PayPal account (i.e. Ultimate Pay would NOT accept payment directly from my checking account which is linked to my PayPal account, rather they needed a credit / debit card).

Yeah....what a train wreck this is. Not quite as bad as PlayOnline, but pretty god **** bad. For those of you who don't know, PlayOnline was the front-end interface / account management software you had to use to log-in and play FFXI. It required you to navigate through a series of vague and ambiguous menus before you could actually get into and play the game. It was excruciating and confusing.

I just hope that this isn't a deterrent to subs...

A lot of people still seem to be having problems registering with ClickandBuy, so here are some tips to make the process a little easier:

Transaction Error 500

A common error during this process is a transaction error 500. ClickandBuy customer service does not seem to be able to help you with this because the error is occuring during the authorization process. ClickandBuy is located in the UK and this is triggering security flags for many US credit cards. If this happens, you need to follow these steps:

1. Contact your credit card company and ask them to authorize the transaction.
2. Wait 10-15 minutes to allow the system to update.
3. Re-start the registration process with ClickandBuy.

If your credit card company informs you that ClickandBuy is trying to authorize a transaction for $2.50, don't worry. This is simply an authorization to make sure that your card is valid, and is a common practice for most US companies as well (such as Paypal). The authorization may show up on your credit card as a pending transaction but will usually only hold for up 7 days before it will be dropped. It is not the same as a posted transaction that you would normally see after making a purchase.

If you continue to have problems registering with ClickandBuy, you may want to try using a different card. Many players are reporting that they used a Visa card during their registration without any problems. There is also a notice during the Square-Enix registration regarding Mastercard, so the authorization process for different card types may affect the registration process. However, this is still unconfirmed so be prepared to call your credit card company regardless of the card type you plan to use.

This information is part of a guide I am writing for http://www.ffxiventurer.com/. Please feel free to distribute the information in this post to help others who are having this problem.

A lot of people are talking about having their CaB account verified, but I was never even prompted for the option when I registered through the SE account management page. I was however prompted to use Verified by Visa with my student visa. Everything worked first try and I got into the game no problem. If people are having trouble with their cards, maybe they can try going through SE's official registration for credit cards and use one that has VbV? Worked for me :P

However, the problems people are talking about may be due to conflicts with American banks and the fact Click and Buy is in the UK though, so I don't know ... what with me being in Canada and all.

That is the biggest problem that it doesn't recognize postal codes. Try to enter another postal code nearby it might work. I live in Canada and it told me my address did't exist. I've lived here 20 years so i'm sure it does. So anyhow i used a postal code from another city and it worked.. But all in all the Crysta method is probably better, you can just use paypal.

The Entire ClickAndBuy Process took me about 20 minutes. Verification took about 2 hours to show up on my Credit Card's online statement.

I thought the entire process is rather painless... though why didn't SE just go with Paypal is beyond me.

[Edit]

I should clarify my statement :) I mean I have no idea why SE didn't just go with Paypal subscription/re-occuring pay.

They did go with paypal, for crysta.

But if you live in an area where it doesn't tell you your "Address does not exist" of course it wont be a problem.....But theres thousands of people that live in places Click and Buy seem to think are make believe.

I'm not sure how street addresses are formatted in Israel, so maybe the CaB system doesn't either and that's why it's causing problems. Have you tried typing things out instead of abbreviating, or vice versa?

Also, make sure you are selecting your country first before you fill in any of the boxes. I remember getting an address error when setting up my account if I filled in my address before changing the country. CaB registration is definitely not the most user friendly form, so just keep trying different things.

I was looking up Israeli address formats and came up with a sample address, which I used to try to create a dummy CaB account:

12 Shderot Yerushalayim
68021 Tel Aviv - Yafo
ISRAEL

This address also gave me multiple errors when I tried to submit the form, but the biggest problem seemed to be the postal code. I used a zip code lookup to see if it was legit, and even the zip code lookup was saying it was invalid. It gave me a suggested zip code of 90680 and listed the city as Tomer.

When I changed the zip code and city to this on my form, CaB finally accepted it. Now, keep in mind I have no idea how much of this is correct, but this is how I had to fill out my form with the above dummy address:

Street Address: Shderot Yerushalayim
Street No: 12
Address suffix: (leave this blank unless you need it)
Zip Code: 90680
City: Tomer
State: Tel Aviv - Yafo
Country: Israel (remember change this 1st BEFORE you fill out the form)

I don't know if zip codes in Israel have different international codes, but this is the website I used to find the zip code that CaB would accept: http://www.addressdoctor.com/lookup/default.aspx?lang=en&country=ISR

If this doesn't work then I have absolutely no idea what to try next, so this is pretty much the extent of the help I can offer. I really hope it works for you though. Good luck!
