Question, i am somewhat unfamiliar with PhysX but with me receiving my GTX 470 sometime today (better be lol) does this game take advantage of Physx. So i can toss my GTS 250 in the 2nd slot? And does PhysX really make a difference in games that take advantage of this?

I was messing with it and it seems to take advantage, whether it's coded in a way that you will see massive benefit or not is a different story. I tried it with my 470 and 8800 and again when I had my dual 470s and again with my 470s in SLI and using the CU for PhysX. All 3 ways I didn't notice a hit to proccessing when I turned it on and off in game.

Having said that if you have a lower end i5 or older definately use your old card for PhysX, you'll see more noticable gains in other games as of this time though.

Ok thank you for the input. Right now im running a Q9550 cpu (going for a whole new build in a few months, just started with the GPU this week). Will try it whenever UPS decides to get here today/tomorrow with my card and game.

My question for PhysX, I have a 460 and a 260 in there, set 260 as the physx processor. Now I have this setup on two monitors, first monitor connected to the 460 and the 2nd monitor to the 260... does it matter if they are both plugged into the 460, or separated?

While I don't have a source to quote from, I thought I saw numerous posts saying FFXIV does not take advantage of PhysX at all.

doesnt matter, plug both into 460, 260 will just be the physx *****

It does, click the toggle for PhysX and you will see things like hair and things hanging off your belt degrade graphically.

Wait, did I read that right? You can use two different cards and have one of them be dedicated to PhysX? I don't want to hijack the thread with questions, so could someone point me to an informational resource about that sorta setup?

Is this toggle in the game settings (I'm not in yet) or in the Nvidia settings?

In my Nvidia settings mine is set to Automatic. Should I force it and choose my GTX470 on the choices or should Automatic already use PhysX for me?

To both posts above be...

Yes you can select which card you want the games to use PhysX for in Nvidia control panel.

I'm pretty sure there's a checkbox accessible when you've got XIV running, I haven't recieved my game yet since I'm on vacation.

Any way if you're running 2x GPU and they are SLI compatible I "think" you're better off letting Nvidia decide which to use for PhysX, I have a newer proccessor and I don't have a dedicated PhysX card and have my CPU set for PhysX. If you have 2x GPU that are different you check the older card to be dedicated PhysX.

You're mixing up "Physics" with "PhysX", two very different things.

I had read somewhere that because the game is a nvidia (I forgot the title, plays best on or whatever) title that the game did use physx and there was a mistranslation in the XIV menu. It could be complete BS.

That could explain though why my different combinations had no effect on game speed (but all similarly affected graphic quality)
