CoP PC launch? Something happened with the warehouses and a storm and the expansions got to retailers late? Actually... That coulda been WoTG. But I'm PRETTY sure it was CoP.

I remembered downloading the expansion and having to pick up a ps2 copy of it for the key. All this hooplah w/ ISOs and people worried about shipping reminds me of those times... I'm surprised no one has mentioned it.

Anybody remember that or did I just imagine the whole thing?(which is very possible lol.)

WotG launch was done on Thanksgiving day in the U.S. and caused a shipping delay for all the retail stores (even if they WERE open) that day

The only thing I remember about ToAU is my friend and I went to go buy our copies together, we live near each other so we both walked home and went to install the expansion. He called me up 10 minutes later wondering why he couldn't get it to install. I told him to let me start updating and I'll head over to his house. Turns out he didn't have a DVD-ROM drive -.-

I had that exact same problem, In the end I had to use another computer to make an ISO and use the ISO to install the game lol :S

I ended up walking back to my house, taking out my DVD-ROM, bringing it to his house, installing it, installing the game, then take my DVD-ROM back home lol. What a good friend I am.

I think that was WotG. PC copies were delayed a few days, and the Ps2 copies were shipped on time. Atleast in NA. Ended up getting a torrent of the EU version, messed with the registry files, then used the key from the ps2 copy.

Yea that's what it was. You're right. Looking back, those were crazy times. I did the same. EU install, changing registries and using a ps2 code. I feel like that's what my life is gonna be like when I get home... LoL

Oh god I remember that. I think the forum was full of "why wont it install" threads that day. I actually had a different problem. My brother was the only one of use who pre-ordered it at be games. Of course they wouldn't sell it to me since I didn't have a pre order which was understandable even though the guy was a bit of a jerk about it. We dragged our dad all over town looking for a copy. Eventually we had found a website that would email you the registration code before they ship your game. That was a crazy night. Such fond memories lol.

And that was only the beginning of the torture COP had in store for you.

(Ok, I finally ended up getting my Raja's Ring but I'll put that journey up against any 'hard' video game achievement... especially since I didn't have a tight-knit handful of friends dedicated to group up every step of the way. It took me years of trying in-between months-long periods of deactivated subscriptions...mostly out of frustration over repeatedly not being able to advance. Even if you got a good group of strangers to succeed for a while, you were always defeated by an Incredibly Tough 'JP Midnight' blocking your path. "Oh, looks like we have a mandatory extremely long wait before we can get on to the next part. It was nice to meet you. Let's meet back here at say ................ NEVER.")

When chains of promathia came out, I am unsure what the reasons were but they shipped about 90% of the copies without registration codes.

I remember the storm delaying CoP! That was a long time ago. Way to make me feel old. I remember whining about that because I had the preorder, but couldn't grab my preorder on release date because of it!

This is why I hope they offer fully downloadable options for FFXIV's expansion packs. There is absolutely no reason I would want a physical copy of one of those, much less the hassles that go with it.

Hurricane delayed CoP

http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/polnews/news2805.shtml

The PC version of WotG had delays either due to missing keys or label issues.

It was WotG as well that had issues with the registration server, if I remember correctly? Even once everyone got their copies... the registration server pretty much bombed and no one could resister it. I only remember because I was dying to unlock DNC and I couldn't. >:

Do you also remember when the Anticans drove the Galka out of Altepa?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I remember when FFXI first released in the US and I immediately got it. Then not 3 days later a JP player was griefing me pulling aggro mobs to me to try to kill me over and over and I got in trouble for reporting it. There was such a large amount of racist love going there for a couple months. I still remember the JP GM telling me it was ok because he was JP.

Yes, I remember clearly COP launch, and TOAU launch, and WOTG launch. It was WOTG where we had to download the PC client then basically buy a PS2/360 copy just for the code and use the EU install, however all that was done.

I do remember COP Launch though, I even remember the update where they added Sea in and a friend telling me "Dude, the Japanese have found this new area called Sea!" I was like "Don't you mean Sky?" he was all "No no, it's like Sky, but it's new and it's in the Sea!". Good times, I had already started the first COP missions and soon after got to Sea.

CoP launch was delayed by Katrina....seriously. The international warehouses were apparently based somewhere around New Orleans, and had been completely flooded.

CoP came out in 2004. Hurricane Katrina was in 2005.

As was mentioned upthread, Hurricane Ivan is the correct answer.
