I would like to know this too. I remember Hallie bought a pretty uber PC but is there any improvement over beta?

This reminds me of those scenes in movies where the guys in the bunker eagerly await the good news from the soldiers in the field. Then when the soldier reports in we all cheer.

Massive improvement to interface lag which now seems to be client side rather than server side (as many predicted).

Some slight lag when equipping onion helm - which looks very silly and now appears on my character in cut scenes.

Combat lag also significantly better.

On the mouse subject, does anyone know if they implemented hardware mouse because it really is perfect now.

Yes they did, I saw someone else mention that. If you happen to notice any other improvements let us know. Those were the big two for me though, I'm quite satisfied.

Whooo! I am installing right now... picked up the game about 4 hours ago, but couldn't get away from work to install it until now :D

Hopefully the updates finish by the time I get home tonight.

Do the directional arrow keys move the camera now? Or at least can you set them to? I'm hoping to play with KB only like in FFXI.

Where did you get it from? I haven't seen anyone claim to "pick up" their copy today. The people playing today were mostly the Amazon pre-orders that came early.

When that happens, is the character you created still there or does it make you restart the process? That would kind of suck if server problems stopped you from creating a character. I've played some games in the past with issues like that.

Hallie how do you link your game to your SE account? I thought I already did it but when I tried to make a char it said you must link this and make a subscription option or some ****, I thought we got 30 days free? is it on the SE acount management site? if so, its congested!

Interesting note:

No additional uber patch required beyond the intial 420MB patch to play...yet :)

All up from install to logging in should take less than 30mins (not including congestion). Very nice start for many users. Thanks SE!

It looks like we can turn back the Doomsday clock. People thought we were going to have interface lag and 2 terabyte patches.

Lag or delay? In beta I felt the time to switch between the two modes was kind of similar to taking out/putting away a weapon in FFXI. I thought it was fine, but I guess we'll see.

There are more system notifications to make the game easier to understand.

For example, if you try to equip a new skill and you are in active mode, in beta it just wouldnt happen and you would not necessarily know why it wasnt working. In this version - there is a message that tells you that you cant equip skills whilst in active mode.

It would be disappointing if it didn't happen. I mean what MMO with a worldwide release wants to go without server congestion. At least people in Japan took off work to play. rofl.

Someone posted a screenshot of a message that pops up when you start the client:

Exploring Eorzea is a thrilling experience ... Please do not forget your friends, your school, or your work.

The message is BACK!

Did everyone who got into the game choose a pre-made character? I thought SE was adding in new customization options, but no one's reported on them yet. Not long to go for the rest of us!

Looks like i'm going to give it a miss till the morning, 2:40 am anyway, can't get onto the account management page to register my copy or whatever, so I can't create a character.

Hopefully by then it will be not congested..

P.S. I hate japan.

It's kind of hard to say how many there are. Japan/Australia along with what I believe is a small percentage of US players are the ones trying to play now. I couldn't tell you what percent of the total CE players that is. I imagine a fair amount of the Japanese/Australians playing now will be sleeping when the majority of US players go to play tomorrow. So maybe it won't be so bad.

Not really. You have a situation where 1/4 of the game population is trying to login and create characters at the same time. This will NEVER happen under normal circumstances, as in not even close, by like a factor of over 9000. I'd be concerned about where SE is putting it's resources if you weren't experiencing server congestion on the lobby servers right now.

Edit to add: all statistics are entirely made up with completely uneducated guesses, but I'm sure they're right.

You have to set up your payment method even though the first 30 days is free. Most MMOs are like that. You can't just start playing and then link your payment method a day/week/month later.

Unless you have a horribly slow connection I would just delete what you've downloaded and get it the normal way. 400MB really does not take long, even for a standard 10MBPS cable connection. Just ensure you've got the properly ports forwarded and the peer to peer download will use all of your bandwidth to get the file quickly.
