You need to enter the codes before you create your character. Then your character will start with the items.

Nothing carried over from beta except your name if you choose the same server.

Uhhh, where do you get the codes from? Like from FFXI? I imagine my collectors edition will have the code with it but what about those of us who have the FFXI account, where do we get the code...?

I haven't gotten my copy yet but it seems like you need to have a playonline account with an active ffxi linked to your square enix account. (trial ffxi won't work)

Ahh okay thank you. So when I log in my characters will have the hermes shoes then? I got a security token when they first came out a couple years ago and have had my playonline account hooked to my SE account since then. I still have it activated as well (and plan to keep it active).

So, I imagine the collectors edition comes with the code that you input in the Square Enix account management page? I guess I'll do that while installing then.

- In-Game Bonus Items
→ To receive the in-game bonus items that come with FINAL FANTASY XIII (initial batch only), FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition, or FINAL FANTASY XIV Standard Edition, you will need to register the item codes which comes with the corresponding product. To register an item code, please follow the steps below:

1. Log into the Square Enix Account Management System (https://secure.squar...ix.com/account/)
2. Select the "Select Service" option under "Service and Options"
3. Select "FINAL FANTASY XIV," and then "Add a service account"
4. Enter the corresponding item code, and then select "Next"

* The in-game bonus item will apply to the corresponding FINAL FANTASY XIV service account once the registration is complete.
* When you create a character on the corresponding FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, the character will start off with the in-game bonus item in possession. Please note that characters created prior to the registration of the item code(s) will not receive the in-game bonus item, so make sure you register the code prior to the creation process.

→ Perks for Simultaneous Players of Both FINAL FANTASY XI and FINAL FANTASY XIV If a PlayOnline ID with an active FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID is linked to a Square Enix account with a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, all new characters created on that FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will start out possessing an in-game bonus item.

* Please note that you will not be able to receive a special in-game item in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period..

This might help. Taken from the pre-release information.

What about the hermes shoes? I just picked up my copy and FFXIV and installing it now. I have entered the codes for armband and onion helm but I dunno how the hermes works. I have had an ffxi account and it has been linked for quite some time. Does it just show up after I log my character in ffxiv? Do I need to get an email? Should it show automatically?

2010-09-22 01:30 From : FINAL FANTASY XIV
Warning Regarding Transferal from Open Beta Test
If you happen to register new service account during the transferal from FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, you will not be able to transfer the Player Character name and obtain in-game bonus item.

If you participated in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta, a FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account should be present under your SQUARE ENIX account. This FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account can be transferred to the official release.
* Note that this FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account by itself does not allow for play.

Once you enter the registration code included with your game, you will be able to choose whether you want to transfer your FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account to the official release or if you want to create a new FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Account. Please take care not to select the option to create a new FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Account unless you wish to lose all character information tied to your FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account.

Please be aware that if you register any bonus item codes to your FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account, you will not be able to redeem those items unless you transfer that FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Service Account to the official release.

In case you have registered new service account by mistake, please wait until the application procedure on how to correct the registration is announced.

I found the above information on the official website. However, I still cannot figure out exactly how to register the codes. When I go under Services, I have both the FFXIV Open Beta Test and the FFXIV service available. Which one do I choose?
