Yeah patching, it's a necessary evil. I'm not sure why people thought there wouldn't be patching the first few days, I would expect even more patching during this time than when the game has been out for 6 months and is on a regular release cycle for fixes.

As long as the server comes up on time I'll be fine. But if it gets extended a couple hours I'm breaking out the pitchfork =)

I thought you were getting 2mb download last night? Fixing that didn't fix your lag?

That was my upload. My download was 20Mb. My biggest lag issue is people taking a while to load on screen.

If someone says, "Hey, invite me to party". I feel I shouldn't have to tell that they need to wait because I can't see them on my screen. I'm talking 30 seconds to a minute of waiting. It's just annoying.

Oh, well yes, XI was the same, although not quite as bad as this. Hopefully they have some optimizations planned on their end for it. I have faith things will be worked out.

I haven't heard of any MMO that has released without lag issues. They'll get it worked out in time. I rolled on a low population server late yesterday afternoon and by the time I had logged out last night, the lag had grown noticeably worse. Still very playable, but a definite difference. SE just needs time to tweak. Be thankful the entry is staggered on account of the CE early access. If the game had gone live with one release day, it would be a lot worse.

What huge patch? I spent about 15 minutes patching yesterday and it's only because 5 minutes into it I realized I needed to do some port forwarding.

WHAT AN MMO ON 3RD DAY OF RELEASE HAS MAINT, LAG AND TEETHING PROBLEMS OMG I CANT TAKE IT /sarcasm off

seriously guys there will be problems, the servers are being more utalised than the open beta they need time to sort the servers out properly after the spike of connections, tbh i'm suprised the servers were letting everyone on and ppl werent waiting in huge queues to get on.

give it time they will sort it all out

It was just the over amount of people all at the same place. Really... 50 people in and around one spot.. yeah any game starts to suffer then. Let alone the other 50 people just next door to it. Really, the only bad places I had were over in Grindia.. seems a lot of players liked to start there.. thankfully I started elsewhere and was just passing thru for some specific leves.

So are they still doing the maint, because by my clock they are late. Unless the servers are just showing that they are up and not actually being up?

Perhaps I should clarify, by the stated start time of the annoncement, they should have started about 1 hour ago. That would have been 11:00 AM CST for me. However, I did not see servers down on the server status page. So for clarification, they did start the maint., but it doesnt look like it or were you saying its already over? Because I did not understand your wording, at all........

You're kinda hard to understand yourself buddy. The maintenance began at 9AM PDT, that's 12PM EDT for me, and 11AM for you. Maintenance SHOULD be over in a little under two hours at 12PM PDT, 3PM EDT, 2PM your time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I'm multitasking from work, and I read your statement wrong. My bad. I read it as "It started 1 hour ago, 2 hours ago"...... lol. And I was like, huh? Sorry about that, didnt mean to come off as an ***. Also just now the servers are finally showing they are down on server status page.

So, other than spamming at the login screen, is there some kind of quick official indicator of what the server's status is? (Something like: FFXI Website - Server Status - ONLINE/MAINTENANCE/ETC)

Or is it just the secondary site 'ping' tests?

I'm either missing it or the main site doesn't have it. I'd imagine it would be a good 'first look' indicator for all these people not digging deep enough to find the scheduled maintenance report in the information section.

There is a server status link on Zam. http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/serverstatus.html
How good it is? Well seems to work okay by my standards. Even launch day I watched as servers came online with it.

Except that's just a simple 'ping' test. At the time of my writing my previous post half the servers were still up even though 'maintenance' had been going on for about 35 mins.

And if this is anything like beta was, the servers will be up and we wont be able to login for at least another 10-20 mins after they are online.

I'm just simply saying/asking if there is an official 'first look' like there is on FFXI, it would probably alleviate some confusion. Putting a big pretty picture or maybe putting the maintenance on the main page at least would help a lot. (and yes, I know I'm talking to air, as no one here has control of what goes on the main FFXIV portal, but still...wouldn't it make common sense?)
