Most Best Buys will not have your FFXIV CE today. Article was just posted on employee news.

Feel Free to begin flaming.

**Status Update**

As of today, Thursday September 23, All the stores in my Best Buy district have received their UPS shipment of FFXIV CE. Call your store to check and see if it is available for pickup after 11am-12pm local time wherever you are and it most likely will be there.

And make sure you get that $10 gift certificate.

Welp over here in Europe I was at the gamestore when it opened. One person before me and she bought a CE edtion.
It was the first and last one... w t f

I actually had a pre order so I thought I would still be okay...
nope wasn't there.

they made me wait several hours because some supply guy was coming and he would probably have it...
nope he didn't.

I've raged for like 4 hours now (what I've got nothing better to do, I planned to be playing) and am exhausted.
Tomorrow I'll probably go back and rage some more. Maybe I'll make a scene and make global news with something like "customer ********* employee, because he didn't get his game on time"(*)

Fill in the blanks with your own imagination! :D

(*)Disclaimer: no employee is going to get hurt, please don't go all mental yourself and send some kind of internetpolice after me.

See? ; ; I definitely appreciate your response in the other BB thread, though ^^, but it definitely seemed like something wasn't right in the system, though I know that sometimes especially with special delivery sorts of items they just "magically" show up and nobody knows the status until it's arrived. So I called my local store and yeah, they didn't get my copies in this morning and he said they weren't expecting any for a few weeks (though this store is smaller and that may have been referencing "normal stock" or something rather than my allocated two copies, so take that with a grain of salt).

Any news on the SE side, whether they expect to have those in for the 30th? (I'm sure it was just focused on CE, but our purpose for CE was more the starting earlier to hopefully have less-populated servers, but they're pretty populous already 14 hours in, so... yeah, hehe.)

Yeah man this has been a pretty s*&%y launch (no fault of SE's really) as far as retail fumbles go ive heard alot of crap going on that seems it shouldnt. Or maybe it is SE fault idk do they pick when retailers get copies? I USED TO work at gamestop(puts flame gear on) and we would get titles litterally days before thier street date. Does that just not happen anymore?

Sometimes, but since so many stores break street dates these days publishers are not always willing.

I would expect that still happens in general, though Yabusame could probably shed some light on the usual process on BB's side (they may hold them at distribution centers and then put them on trucks to arrive the night before/morning of so there's no possibility of employees sneaking copies out early or something). This BB thing certainly looks like a BB screwup as far as I can tell from my calls with stores and BB.com support. If it was SE's fault I would've expected more communication with staff earlier. :\

I don't mean to rub it in but remember all those people who said "I'd rather order from a brick and mortar shop because they're more reliable or because I can go pick it up myself"? Well...yeah...

But we can go pick it up ourselves! Just not necessarily on release day. ;) Foulups can happen anywhere, online or "physical", especially with as big as some of these physical stores are. *shrug*

The thing is I have heard time and again the same complaint about store pickups EVERY time a new game gets released. EVERY FREAKING TIME FOR THE LAST 5+ YEARS. People preorder, the store waits until the day of release and sends you a message that they oversold preorders and that it's first come first serve. You go in only to find out they received THREE COPIES and all of the sold out within 5 minutes. Then they tell you "oops we won't have any more in for at least several weeks so go sit on your thumbs and spin."

I've heard the same stories about every single game release for...well ever. Every time it's the same complaints and still people go back to these stores despite lackluster service and poor management. I have ordered like eight different games from amazon in the last 4 months alone and have had ZERO delivery issues. The latest I've gotten a game was the day after the estimated delivery date.

I don't understand why someone would continue using a store that consistently ***** up timely delivery on game releases.

Yeah, Best Buy has your games in their regional distribution centers, but the company never sent them to stores. If you call 1-888-BESTBUY, they will give you a $10 gift card because they screwed up if you are persistant.

I just got a copy from gamestop, my local store had two extra.

I just had this problem, went to pick mine up and they didn't have them. I quickly went over to the Gamestop next door and they had ordered 20 extra CE copies, of which the attendant told me they had actually already sold 12 of them. I nabbed number 13.

I hope everyone who's having preorder issues isn't leaving without at least a gift card. At the store I work at we often give out a gift card without the customer even having to ask if it's a fumble on our end.

Man, this just sucks. (no pre-ordered CE at BestBuy)

nothing for today.
I took a day off just to get me started again after long break from FFXI.

I called local GameStop and they didn't have either.

This is worst opening for FF.

(thanks to Remora, i called BestBuy and got $10)

Stopped in to grab mine at 10AM, and sure enough it wasn't there. I sent them an e-mail and will call them when I am done work to see if it's there. How ridiculous, especially considering I got an e-mail yesterday saying it was at the store.. F* You BestBuy.. This is exactly why I don't deal with them in general.. (Got FFXIV as a gift)

Same story here.

I called around to the local GameStops and they indicated if I hurry they would probably have a couple copies left for me. Luckily enough I was able to get them (one for the wife). Best buy didn't give me a hard time cancelling and refunding my credit card. Regardless I'm done with Best Buy.

I just got an email from Bestbuy, it looks like they are doing something across the board for their major screwup. This is what it says in the email I got:

Quote:

As you are aware this item releases today. We regret to inform you that this edition has been delayed to our Best Buy stores. As a result, you will be unable to pick up your order until Friday September 24, 2010. Please note you should have received a confirmation email informing you that your order is ready for pick-up at your local Best Buy store. Although you have received this email you will be unable to pick up your order until the above date. We apologize for this inconvenience.

My bestbuy pre-order won't even let me cancel it. I was told after I receive the item, I can return it to any bestbuy store for a refund.

Yeah, i called Best Buy first this morning and they told me that they were waiting on the UPS truck and that they would have them late today or tomorrow. I then called Gamestop and they said they had 2 copies. I figured i would be SOL since i can't make it there until about 5pm today due to work, but the guy told me that he would hold me one! In the past they would always refuse to hold copies for me, so this was a pretty awesome surprise.

Yep, same thing. Went in this morning and Best Buy had no idea when they were going to get it, even though I got a notification yesterday that it was in the store. Went to the nearest Gamestop and bought the CE. Never getting games at Best Buy now. Just sayin.

I should have specified that mine was for in store pickup. If it's being delivered to your home then it's understandable.

Luckily, the gamestop down the road had some "extra" copies. ^_^ Man, there's always some sort of pre-order fiasco, it's silly.

Mine was originally store pickup, changed yesterday to shipping. Went on backorder this morning, and I cancelled immediately after driving to the nearest Gamestop and picking up two of the like thirty copies they had lying around. Obviously to cancel you have to call in, but I never had any issues. Might have to call them back and try for a new rep, maybe.

For you guys that cancelled your Best Buy preorder. Did any of you get the free $25 best buy g/c when you ordered (it was offered if you bought 2 games/accessories over $40 each), and if so, did Best Buy have to charge you the $25 for cancelling the pre-order? When I pre-ordered they sent my $25 g/c immediately so I already got it weeks ago, I'm wondering if they are gonna want it back if I cancel the pre-order.

Unless you get them to do something special, you'd still have a $25 charge for the card (which you can return). You might be able to press for getting it thrown in since they've apparently got a $10 code they're giving to certain people, though.

Thanks for letting us know it seems to be available today, I was planning on waiting till tomorrow because that's what the email they sent said (but I should have known they'd be wrong again).

I'm wondering if I should ask for a bestbuy giftcard, because I would much rather have a giftcard that doesn't expire, than an online only code that expires in a month.
