Anyone dissapointed with the CE bonuses? Follow

im not really complaining and honestly i couldn't care less but im curious if anyone was upset by the poor quality of bonuses.

The travel journal has ridiculously small concept art. Like they made it look like it would be full page art but half of it are these tiny pics that don't take up half the page.

The "making of a realm" bonus disk seems to just be the youtube videos... Its not really "exclusive" content when anyone can see it. Like they advertised it as "get an insider look at the making of final fantasy XIV with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD". Putting old youtube videos on a dvd isn't exactly special....

The "Right of Passage" document seems ridiculous.... like really, I'm going to frame a video game certificate and stick it next to my university degrees? I mean... its cute and all... just kinda weird haha.

Then again on the plus side the traveler's journal is a realllllly nice journal, the ingame item is pretty hardcore, im sure the security token is helpful to some people, and you get to play early with free gameplay.

What are your thoughts?

I love it personally. It is a lot more than you get with other games lately. My only complaint is the registering code for my members bonus for registering the game says its expired which is impossible considering the game came out today.

I'm with you. I think the Right of Passage is pretty silly. I know I don't want it. What would I do, hang it on my wall? Frame it? =\ I'd probably just throw it out. I don't like the Onion Helm either, it looks ridiculous. So... I feel like I got to play early and got a nice journal, but that's it. It certainly didn't feel worth 25 dollars extra to me.

I am an avid coffee drinking and the thought of having a nice faux leather wrapped ffxiv inscribed beverage container fills me with glee.

Also, I love hanging maps on my wall. And I heard the CE map is really nice.

So ya I'm a little ****** that all I really got worth anything was a journal and to be a part of the post-beta group >.<

I'm not gonna rage about it or anything, but seems a crappy move on SE's part.

I'll go ahead and say I'm a little dissapointed.

The journal is far worse than the EU one, they get a lot more artwork.

Look here to see what EU got in their journal:

Yeah, I'm not really impressed. However, I knew what I was getting, and I was really just after the early start. Don't care about getting ahead; I just wanted to GET IN ALREADY >< (I mean, "yay!"). If i could have chosen from what I have seen in the other regions' CEs, I think I'd want the map and the soundtrack.

Oh well, the game has started, and whatever they gave me in a CE would still be collecting dust in a month anyway.

I am actually looking forward anxiously to getting mine. I've had the collectors editions of WoW in the past and while there is really nothing spectacular about them, I still enjoyed getting them. And I have definitely made use of the mousepads.

In this collectors edition I am looking forward to the journal, the security key and the early start. I've used a security key on WoW for 2-3 years now and it doesn't bother me at all having to put in that extra information. I have never been hacked (/knock on wood) and it really does make me feel safer using one.

The ingame hat is goofy, but I suppose useful. The certificate is kind of neat, but like you said, not something I'm likely to frame and hang on my wall! And the early start is always neat, in my opinion. Since you already have yours, can I ask a couple of questions?

1. The early in - is that part of the free 30 days play or is it an extra 7 days on top of the 30 free days?

2. As for the journal, I realize you talk about the pictures in it being small, so my quesiton is, How is it set up for use? Is it a lined journal for you to write in, or is it blank pages with the small pics in the upper/lower corner, or what? I was hoping it would be a decent writing journal so I can put info in it about the game. I like to write down people's names and my own character's information sometimes - basically just to keep notes on things. I usually do it though because I have several characters and it's nice to have it in front of you written down as to what they are and their abilities, etc. when you're playing a different one so you can maybe send them items that might be useful to them. However, in this game it looks like I'll only play 1-2 characters, in view of them insisting on only having 1 per account unless you pay more - I find that a bit ridiculous. I mean really, couldn't they at least allow 2-3 with the game and then charge for more??

Anyway, that is off subject. My package is on the way to my house but I won't be there to get it until after work, so I'm hoping they will just leave it at my door.

Was anyone else getting theirs in the mail and not able to be home to accept it and if so, did they go ahead and leave it without a signature, or did you get a note to pick it up or have it resent?

Just curious.

We don't even get the same journal? First I get burned on the ffxi bonus, now the extras? The only thing left is for me to find out that Trabia server is closed or something when I finally make it back from school tonight lol.

Most of the pages are nearly blank allowing for plenty of room for writing, so you're good there. They just have one of the weapons as a faint image, each page has a different classes weapon. When it runs out of classes ... it just repeats the images from before. In the front their is a world map. In the back are a few pages of half page size color images.

the best thing out of all of it is the authenticator to me. the onion helmut and its use is stupid to me, 3 mins of weakened state is not that bad, id rather have the goggles with this one.
i dont write in journals so its completely useless to me.

lol @ framing the certificate. Anyway I typicaly never buy CE games because nothing usually interests me beyond the game itself - so the reason I bought this one is because I figured I want a security token and the early start which I'm happy with both.

I actually thought the Rite of Passage was the coolest part, both my wife and I were actually quite excited about it haha...

Yes, I will frame it; yes, it will go next to my degrees; yes, it will be awesome! Also, fifteen years or so from now, I can look at it and feel all fuzzy inside!

After seeing the photos of the unboxing, I ordered the CE because I really liked that journal, and while the onion helmet looks ridiculous it will be useful.

But if the North American journal is not the same one, I think I'll be sending my CE back and getting the standard edition on the 30th. $25 extra for the onion helmet isn't worth it.

Lucky EU players. Their CE got the map, tumbler, and awesome journal. NA gets a cheesy diploma and diary. We got gipped big time.

Yeah I kind of agree. If you don't already have a security token from FFXI like me, it feels worth it. The token was 10 bucks in ffxi (+ free inventory space, the only reason anyone actually got it) and then you have the helmet, which really is only a token of pride come 2 years from now to see who is still in the game. You can be all "Hey I have an onion helm so I been playing since NA release and you should all listen to me blahblah" like people used to say in dunes parties in ffxi.

But I wish we got the tumbler...

Yep, I'm not very ecstatic about the different travel journals. After the authenticator it was the next thing I was most looking forward to.

That'll teach me to spend my money on CE editions expecting the same item if it's listed on all versions, since I never saw anywhere that mentioned each edition would be getting a different travel journal.

Is there any word on whether the onion helmet has limitations on it? Like the boots having a 15 minute duration, so maybe the helmet only works X many times a day, or up to a certain rank?
Does it still decrease the timer to 1m30s, rather than the regular 5minutes?

I'm trying to convince myself that it's worth it to keep my CE, since it just shipped. If the onion helmet effect never wears out, over time that will save me a lot of time since I tend to be reckless and die a lot. Like punching a goobbue just to see how hard they hit (answer: very hard).

I'm not sure why the Europeans got the really cool map, I believe it's like a cloth map isn't it? But why didn't we get it in America? Why different rewards like that? All that causes is division in a community and shouldn't be done by a developer. Everyone should get the same bonuses. And yes, I think the little right of passage certificate is just silly and useless. I'd actually display the map, but displaying the right of passage certificate? Not sure if I'd want some one to walk into my apartment and be like "Ohh? What's this?" and me have to explain it... That could get awkward... "It's a birth certificate for my virtual character".

Just got my CE today and gotta say I'm a bit disappointed too. The book doesn't seem to special, and I already have a security token of my own I bought for FFXI. DVD+Game are crammed together in one area, really sad to be honest. Part that sucks worst of all is I can't save the token for use later either, there's no battery tab or anything to remove. That means by the time my other token dies this one the battery for my newer token will have already depleted itself. Oh well, guess the early access will have to suffice.

UPS just delivered my copy an hour ago that I preordered with release date delivery through amazon. My product registration card code is expired. Good job SE, good job! Everything else is fine though.

The journal is extremely disappointing after seeing the EU one. There are maybe 10 pages with actual colored images and the rest have a light brown outline of various things on part of the page. The only good thing is I won't feel as bad after writing things in it since there's not really anything to ruin on 95% of it. That EU map would have been nice as well, although there's a tiny one in the instruction manual.

The security token, onion helm, and early access just barely justify the extra $25 to me. Now I just have to install and update and I'm back to playing FFXIV!

Anybody that has played WoW should be able to tell you how useful a security token / authenticator is. Practically everyone i know in WoW that doesn't use one has gotten hacked at least once, myself included (you can bet i got one after that though). Fortunately Blizzard is really good at getting people's stuff back, but it's best not to let it get to that point at all. I don't know what SE's stance on the issue is, and how little or much cooperation they give to players who have had their accounts hacked.

What are the odds that they figured NA would mostly purchase for PC and that every where else will mostly purchase PS3? If so it may make sense that they "gimped" the NA PC CE (mmmmm hope no one's acronymaphobic) so that they could entice NA PC players to purchase NA PS3 CE and maybe the items we crave and more will be there to entice us? I know I'll most likely get the PS3 CE version no matter what's in it, because I'm a sucker for SE Special Editions since they're kinda rare to get on non-asian soil.

I'm very disappointed by the quality of our travel journal over the EU one. they get a mini art book, I get diary with faded images repeated, and a few tiny pictures in the back. I swore off collectors editions years ago after paying $5 for a metal dvd case and a making of video I wouldn't watch. I cracked this time because I thought I'd be getting some kind of artbook, with my security token, but its a joke.

Honestly I knew what i was getting, but i expected a little more.

1. Security Token - It will be nice to have down the road if i want to end up using it one day, ive never used one before, im generally pretty good with not getting keyloggers, but hey security might be needed as some point.

2. Travel Journal - I was expecting a lot more artwork than the 4-5 pages we got, i would have been happy with 10, seriously did they need to cheap us out that much?

3. Rite of Passage - I'll probably get it just because, however it will probably go in the box and never seen again. The one redeeming factor this could have is if its printed on the same nice fabric the map is supposedly printed on, then at least it will have some value to me.

4. DVD - Already seen it all one youtube(i haven't actually watch it yet, but from what ive heard its just the making of a realm and nothing more)

I know they grass is green on the other side, but that Map just looks freaking awesome, i would have loved to hang it up on my wall, and the tumbler would have been nice too, it would have made a nice desk ornament at least.

Pretty much the worst CE I've ever gotten. Why NA got such a bad package who knows ? they could of at least give the map in one region and the tumbler in the other to even things out. would have been nice to at least gotten a separate jewel case for the DVD,but the soundtrack would have been better.

When I opened mine up and found the 'tumbler' I honestly thought it was a sugar caddy. I have no idea where people are getting "cup" and "mug" from. It doesn't even have a handle. It honestly looks like something I would store teabags in.

Edit: Might list mine on American eBay with the map too.
