My install is going for over an hour now... about 60% done.... I am on Win7 32-bit.

Seen a couple of you say something about making an ISO and installing it from there... I know how to make an ISO (DVDdecrypter [DVD reader/writing program]), but I am not sure where to go from there.

I am guessing you have to mount the image/ISO and then install it... which would actually install it from the ISO on your harddrive... What program should I use to mount the ISO? I also have the Nero DVD Burning program... not sure if I can actually make an *.iso with that though.

Step-by-step guide would be great.

Too many variables to determine that for everyone, it could be anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours. Just be patient is the best advice I can give.

Mine took no longer than 20-25 minutes for the install, and I downloaded all the patches in about 30 minutes using the official installer. I guess all the people having to resort to torrent files just started a little earlier than most of the rest of us and didn't have enough people sharing the load? I got it today from Gamestop, took it home at lunch and set it up. Now it's ready to play when I get home tonight.

I tried for about 30 minutes originally, installing, canceling, restarting... it just wasn't doing anything for me, install was very slow. BF tried installing for me, and after 40 minutes it wasn't at 50%. DVDRom is fine, computer is fine. So he created an image file on his laptop from the dvd, transferred it to my pc, and installed it from the HD rather than the dvd, it's running now, very quick. So something is probably screwed with my disc.

Thank goodness I have someone here who knows this stuff cause i would have been lost >< I know EB wouldn't have exchanged an open product so I would have had to go through SE to get a sealed package to get exchanged and would have taken weeks... had that happen with my SIMS.

So be impatient like me ;P If it seems like it's going too slow it probably is.

I had the ISO so even discounting the disc read times which should speed up the install, it still took me about 50 minutes to install the client. Mainly because there are literally hundreds of thousands of individual dat files, and that creates a ton of overhead because each file needs to be closed and opened rather than just having a few massive dat files that can be opened and have hundreds of MB of data streamed into it before needing to close.

tl;dr: Very slow install times are normal.

Installing off the DVD wasn't bad only 15-20min (Vista 64-bit) but the version update is taking forever! Had to disable the windows firewall to get it to even START downloading even though ffxiv was listed under exceptions. I have a highspeed connection and it'll download like 1% 700b/s then say all upload/download speeds are at 0 for 10 min. Is there an easy way to torrent the update like during beta cus this really sucks

I can make an ISO just fine, but what program are you people using to extract the files from the ISO?

I have Daemon Tools, but I haven't used it in so long I am not sure if I'll remember how.

Mount it to a virtual drive and treat it as a normal DVD.
