I and a few others are having this problem. from what I've read it means the data2.cab is corupt. Some people have been able to fix it by doing the following

- turn off your firewall - Didn't work for me
- try running as administator - didn't work for me
- copy the CD into a folder on your desktop and try from there - didn't work for me. Got hung up on the data2.cab file
- going back to the store and swapping out the disc - I have done this and got the same error on both discs.

In my event viewer it say CD rom has a block. I'm trying to look into this right now.

I had the same problem but managed to resolve it. What worked for me is
-Used the family computer in the other room that had a more updated CD driver in it and was able to copy cabinet 2 to that computer. I then used an external drive to transfer the data from that computer to my computer and was able to install the game perfectly using the CD info on my computer.

-I didn't try this option but you could see if you are able to update your CD drivers and afterwards, this goes for anyone who may wonder if they have the same problem because it sucks waiting 15-20 minutes just to find out you're getting hung up at the same spot and forced to restart again. Basically explore the CD go into data, copy the "data2" cabinet file and see if you can put it on your HD, if you can put it on your HD you'll have no problem installing the game.

As far as I've seen the only problem with the disk is that certain CD drives just can't read that data2 cabinet file but as long as you can get the 3.9 GB file on your computer along with the rest of the CD info you'll have no problem installing it from there.

Hope that helps anyone who may be having similar problems.

I'm getting this error also, it sucks balls. I came home on my lunch break to install and update, now I might have to wait until later tonight before I can figure this out.

Edit:

I attempted to copy the Data2 file directly and still got an error message. I am trying to copy it to my laptop right now. If this doesnt copy I will take the disc to work with me and try there. If all this fails I will assume its the disc itself and exchange it.

OK, I'm having the same issues and i tried copy paste to my desktop. I get about 3/4 of the file on my desktop before i get the unreadable error again and have to start over. I tried updating my drivers but their up to date. It's been 3 hours now and I'm getting a little irritated. Seems like you'd want your software to work on release day, just my 2 cents.

Update:

I was able to copy the Data2 file to my laptop. When I get to work I will transfer it to a external HD and bring it back home tonight. Seems like the disc doesnt like some CD/DVD drives and/or their drivers.

I tried to copy it to my PC, tried it on another PC, and even tried to copy the disk to another disk and they all are saying the data2 is unreadable. So, at the moment I'm downloading the client and hoping I can get it that way. Called Gamestop where I picked it up from and they said I'm the third person to call about it today and they don't have any extras at the moment to replace it.

Having the same issue. Currently trying to copy data2 to my laptop, and if that fails I'm going to go harass my mother to try on her desktop and laptop as well.

I was so happy to get my copy of the game too. >: Talk about a buzzkill.

edit: Well, copying to laptop seemed to work. Had about 15 seconds left, past the '3/4th' mark that most people had gotten shut down at.. and then one of my new kittens walked across my laptop and canceled the transfer. Time to try again.

edit again: yep, worked fine! Copying everything over to my external HD now, and then from there to my desktop. Hopefully with less kitten intervention this time.

Same issue here I'll try what you guys are suggesting. Otherwise, this is why you should have downloadable clients.

I found that people all over are having this issue and changing discs doesn't seem to work it's an issue between the DVD and the DVD Drive. Nothing is wrong with your computer or drive. Someone suggested torrenting the retail game and then installing. He did it and it worked fine I'm torrenting it now and I'll report back if it worked.

Also: To those having reservations about torrenting. You bought the disc, check where you're torrenting or ask someone to link you to a good torrent. You're not pirating anything.

No one knows but a lot of people have switched discs like 3 times and none of them work. Torrent the ISO or try a different computer and find a way to move the data2.cab to your computer.

I got lucky and buddy brought over his external DvD burner and it worked.

Here is a link to the forum that has the client link. http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/19347-installing-retail-error/

Its bout mid page user name Jackel

If you can get your hands on a newer DvD-rom it would be much faster then the DL when he got here I was at 17% after a hour.

I don't think the disc swap is going to work if you are having this problem. Scroll up and do what Airget did. It works and is faster than downloading a torrent.

Im having the same problem as you XvirusTvirus, first with the windows vista SP2 now the 75% install completion to failure. After it fails again i'm going to try what people have suggested and copy the cab file to my external, i really hope this works...
Edit: Btw, i don't believe this is a problem with the dvd disk, while trying to install Starcraft2, i would get a similar error at 51%, every time, i believe it's just my dvd drive. i bought a new drive but it doesnt connect to my power supply properly and therefore is useless to me.

Hey I just have a quick question, I also got this error about half way through but I clicked ignore after retry didn't do anything. The game installed fine and I'm patching right now. The question I have is, with the fact that I had ignored the error, is it going to affect the game's capability to run in any way? Mind you the install went fine and finished after I ignored, so idk if the problem only had to do with the install or the game running itself. Thanks!
