To all my fellow FFXI fanatics, I had to wait 5 hours now to even attempt to start playing. Without anybody trying to help me explain how utorrent works. If you are one of those guys who need a little boost to get you started here you go.

1.) Goto www.utorrent.com and download the application. (skip if you already have this)
2.) Goto http://www.mediafire.com/?2ccjb4gp9yonskl to get the patch this will open a site to get the patch.
3.) Save this to My Document
4.) Open Utorrent and add the file to download (it's the first +Add Torent under File left corner) add the file that you downloaded from "My Document"
5.) It will ask you where to save the file save to.. C:\Users\Owner\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\downloads\ffxiv\48eca647\metainfo
6.) Once the Utorrent download is completed - close utorrent and close the ffxi (update) window.
7.) You need to open 2 (TWO) WINDOWS, Open C:\Users\Owner\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\downloads\ffxiv\48eca647\metainfo\ffixv\48eca647\patch\ there will be a .PATCH file on here thats about 4MB this is the file you downloaded from utorrent, you need to drag this file and move it to the next step. Then you need to open another window C:\Users\Owner\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\downloads\ffxiv\48eca647\patch you will also see the .PATCH file on here that you will replace from the first file you opened. You will move the 1st file to this folder and Windows will prompt you if you want to Move and Replace. You will move and replace... and then hit refresh and close all your windows.
8.) Restart FFXIV and it should automatically reload the patch and that's its!

I hope this helps to everyone whose not so computer savvy as I am. Good Luck and See you there!

My brother used this link and it's horribly virused with adware. Beware!

My patch download is pottering along at 3kb/s.

Slow and annoying I'm sure. But I think I will let it carry on overnight (it's nearly bedtime here) so to seed others and avoid any possible nasties.

utorrent is a safe program and is by far the more superior method to use for updating patches. Use this method for almost all patches during beta and works fine.

uTorrent of course is fine, but what is the source of these uploaded files? I'm downloading at about 300 kbps right now after waiting about 5 minutes. I have a 45 MBPS connection though so this could speed up some. But it's a good start and shouldn't take too long. Just make sure you've opened the proper ports in your router.

You dont need to download the torrent from the net, just open the patcher when it says downloading update files the torrent file is stored on your hard drive under My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV > Downloads > ffxiv > *either* 48eca647 *or* 2d2a390f > metadata then just copy the .patch files to the random number file to the same one > patch.

I would be wary of downloading these off a file sharing website its not needed all the torrents are saved on locally when you have opened the patcher (btw if its a red screen on patcher there will be another file after thats installed so you have to so the steps 2x.
