blank login screen (solved)Follow

So, I got everything installed, updated, and accounts all setup. When I launch the game, though, I get a login window with a cancel button, update page button, and scroll bar, but the center is blank where it had the fields to enter SE account info in beta. The update page button does nothing, the cancel button exits, and the scroll bar can't be scrolled because there is nothing to scroll.

How do I make progress? Anyone else getting this?

I found out what causes this. On Windows 7 64-bit (and maybe other versions), if you have IE's security setting for the Internet zone set to high, the login page will fail to load in FFXIV. It doesn't matter what your default browser is, FFXIV always uses IE.

To fix this, you have 2 options:
1) Add the square enix sites to the trusted site zone
To do this, open IE and double click on the status bar on the bottom that should say something like "Internet | Protected Mode: On". This will bring up a dialog title Internet security. Click on the trusted sites zone. Make sure the slider is set to medium-high or lower and click Apply if you needed to change it. Click on the "Sites" button. A dialog will pop up titled "Trusted Sites". Uncheck the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" check box. Edit the entry field labeled "Add this website to the zone" to say "square-enix.com" then click on the add button. It should show up in the list below.
2) Change the security setting for the Internet zone to medium-high or lower (not recommended)
To do this, open IE and double click on the status bar on the bottom that should say something like "Internet | Protected Mode: On". This will bring up a dialog title Internet security. Click on the internet zone and change the setting to medium-high or lower on the slider and click OK or Apply.

That should make the login screen show up if you had the same problem I did.

I just made an account with this forum just so I could thank you. I been searching for someone whom had my same problem with no luck. I wasn't able to play the beta for the same reason. Thank you for your post you made my day.

I got the same problem (at least thats what it looks like) but the 2 options listed here dont work. I have the square-enix.com in the trusted sites list, the "Require server verification" checkbox unchecked and my security setting on medium. Still the problem persists! The blank screen is still there, with the update button (that does nothing), the cancel button and the scroll bar that cant be scrolled. Plus there is a loading icon on the bottom left that spins for a second and then freezes. I tried installing IE 9, disabling my antivirus (avast!) and setting IE as the default browser.
Still nothing... I am at a loss! If anyone has any ideas on the matter please respond! Thanks! (Needless to say i have reinstalled the game 2 times already!)

Not solved.

I have the same problem, and solution didn't work.

Win 7 64 bit. / Intel i5 CPU / 8GB RAM / Nvidia GTX 260 /

The game worked for a week, then I got this problem. Tried to contact SE twice, but their support is awful.

I have this problem now too! I was just on earlier today and now I can't load any of the screens to get into my account. It doesn't matter which browser I use: https://secure.square-enix.com/account/ just doesn't load.

Solutions in this thread haven't worked. I haven't changed anything, no windows updates or new software. I asked someone I knew and they are able to log in so I don't have a clue here. What's up with this?

https://secure.square-enix.com/account/ would come up blank in IE for me, but I went to that site, I made it a 'Trusted Site' in IE, and set IE security to 'medium low' , unchecked the 'require....' blah blah blah,... and the site now loads for me. I can log in fine on IE, to SE that is.

The game however, still freezes at the same point as others describe above, on a log in screen with frozen loading wheel on the bottom left, 'Cancel' 'Update Page' on the bottom right, and a blank center with unusable scroll bar.

In yet another vain attempt to get through... I uninstalled FFXIV completely, as well as AdAware, and AVG anti-virus. Set IE 8 to lower security, and set SE links to 'trusted sites'. Reinstalled FFXIV. Same problem still occurred.

See my setup above. Now I’m on IE beta 9. Win 7 64bit. Intel i5 CPU. 8GB memory. GTX 260 Nvidia card. Blah blah. You can see above that I tried uninstalling and installing a few things and tweaking IE’s settings, removing all anti spyware anti virus ware. Nothing worked. It’s been about 10 days of f’ing around with IE and FFXIV.

One problem is that although I ‘removed’ IE 8 and started IE 9 beta…. IE doesn’t just wipe settings. My IE 8 settings and adjustments popped up in IE 9. I don’t even know if it’s technically possible for a layman to ‘uninstall’ IE.

Solution for me: Open IE, got to ‘Tools’ ‘internet options’ ‘advanced’ tab, go to ‘Reset’ button, press it, check the box that indicates to delete all person options wiping to default, ‘Ok’. Supposedly this removes ALL adjustments you made to IE from factory default. I did that as it was the closest thing to ‘uninstall’ and ‘reinstall’ for IE I could find.

Now I seem to be able to get to the login page and login fine. It was an f’ing FFXIV and IE mutual retarded moment I guess, I dunno which to blame more and I still don’t know what settings will break it again, as I do not even use IE myself, I avoid it like the plague. I wasn’t using IE or messing with it when FFXIV/IE broke that last time.

I tried reseting IE settings as you did! I must admit I ve progressed a little! Now the loading wheel spins for about 5 seconds more before it freezes again :P! I've given up on this freaking thing... I mean why do they use IE for login? I doubt anyone still uses it for browsing (which BTW is the original purpose) let alone for loging in a MMORPG :S! Anyway... I m still checking a couple of threads for updates so if i find anything useful i ll let you know!
