I am buying a laptop. Specs are not that important to talk about. It will run FF14.

My problem is...they have a model that will ship TOMORROW that has 4GB of ram

or

I can wait and get the exact same model with 6GB of ram and it will ship oct 4th.

They are pretty much the same price. It is just tempting to get the 4GB ram model so I can play FF14 sooner. But should I do the smart thing, wait, and get the 6GB model even though it ships later?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

You said it yourself, the smart thing would be to wait for the 6GB model. October 4th is less than 2 weeks away, and I'm sure you'd be kicking yourself in the **** if you jumped the gun on the 4GB model.

Then again, 2GB of RAM doesn't cost very much in my mind. Ask yourself if it's worth the cost of the RAM to play that much sooner.

Tbh 4GB of RAM is plenty unless you run memory intnsive programs like high end graphics design software or alot of virtual machines simultainously, I have 4GB of RAM in my laptop running firefox ffxiv and windows 7 and i arent seeing any slowdown or when i do its because my CPU is maxed out because of ffxiv.

The only time i have ever seen my laptop page filing is when i run 3 server virtual machines and 1 client, thats because i am running 5 OS's and need the RAM to run em all and the host OS.

So the 6GB will make it futureproof depending on what other specs it has but for a few yrs atleast 2GB of it will never be used unless you use RAM intensive software like i said above.

More RAM only speeds things up if you are already maxing what you have out and most people never max out 4GB yet.

If you are planning to reactivate FFXI to get Hermes shoes, then you gotta reactivate FFXI before Oct. 1st, pay for FFXI on Oct 1st, then create a NEW character in FFXIV to get the Hermes shoes. So I'm just saying, if you were planning on doing that anyway, then you can wait till Oct. 4th for your laptop, since its only 3 days after you would need to create a new character with Hermes shoes.

Please be aware that even if your spec's are above the required ones, laptop graphics cards are having a lot of problems with the game causing 'unexpected errors' after clicking the play button.

Just a heads up ^^

I'm using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 512MB dedicated RAM about 1.75GB total RAM and it works on mine, lag isnt even that bad when i fine tune settings (which i was surprised at).

Just posting this to say that even if other laptop graphics cards are having problems its not all of them, i have been on for 9hrs without a disconnect or crash. I would see if anyone else has had issues with the same graphics card you will have before you buy it.
