Changes from BetaFollow

#1 Sep 23 2010 at 2:22 AM Rating: Decent
I checked the first couple of pages on the thread list and didn't see anything like this so I thought I'd start one to detail the changes I noticed between retail and open beta. Quite a few changes, pretty much all of them good:

- Local levequests now provide mats for 2 synths more than needed for levequest requirement. (Up from 1 extra in OB)
- Crafting is less random. More frequent solid color orbs. Failures now seem to give no quality and sometimes even no progress.
- System will now tell you if it is recommended that you get synthesis support. (says something like, "requires more expansive facilities.")
- Battlecraft levequests seem to scale differently. In the OB, I often did 3 star levequests solo. Now 2 star ("Band") levequests feature mobs in parties. Was still able to manage rank 1 levequests solo on 2 star difficulty but some of the fights were a bit rough.
- Thunder/lightning weather effect in Black Shroud and on ferry (LL <-> Ul'dah). Didn't notice this in OB.
- Gil reward from starter quest series now 6k (down from 30k in OB).
- Many NPC vendors have had changes made to their list of items for sale.
- NPC price of Muddy Water doubled. Many other prices adjusted.
- Crystal drop rate dramatically increased. (Had 2 Fire Crystals drop from the same fight on several occasions).
- Rate of durability decay on gear reduced.

I'm sure there are a lot more changes. Feel free to post the ones you've noticed!

I experienced Thunder weather on the ferry a number of times during OB, but the rest of the list looks new to me.

Guardian's Favor is now pointless for Fishing levequests. You do not getting any additional skillpoints for catching a fish like you did during any of the Beta phases.

In Open Beta a person would get 600-800 fishing skill points for catching a fish during a levequest with Guardian's Favor on, now they only get the usual 110 or so making Guardian's Favor completely useless to turn on.

The ability to set the Gamepad to work when the game window is in the background. Such a small change but hugely useful for me!

has normal syntesis a decent success rate now? i was forced to use rapid syntesis all the time in beta to craft.
anyway i'll wait for a search button for market and a recipe book for craft before buying the game...

Yes... spirit dart and the like now miss like crazy sometimes, even with high PIE.
And the Thaumaturge "Slow" spell (which once was quite powerful) has been nerfed
beyond recognition. Also, the "Cure" spell, when used cross-class, now seems to
heal a lot more than in OB... just a few things from a fellow mage's observations.

I think this is affected by DEX.

do marmots drop anything else than earth/fire shards? or just more of them?
if its more earth, thats stupid, cause i had almost 1k of them in beta, at lv 16-18, but just 50-100wind.
then there's abilites to boost drop rate for it too.

even in OB, most leve mobs were linked, if you atk one, at least 1 other would attack too.
the yarzons would all attack you, like 4-5 of them, but they had very low hp, so you could kill them in 1-3 hits.

Synthesis is MUCH more consistent now. Lots of solid colors, but the above take on the effect of failure is a good point (i.e., no progress award). The good news is that you can actually apply rules and strategies to crafting as opposed to hoping, praying and then panicking...or maybe that was just me...before.

Also, and I'm curious about this, I think I got a boost from the Asuran Amrguards, but I'm not wholly sure.

There has been no data to show it is effected by DEX. If it is, it is a major ***** up on SE's part since then mages would need VIT, DEX, MND, INT, PIE which is just ridiculous.

Since it is essentially a MP free magic attack I would assume it uses PIE.
