Crafting Question, Is This Info Accurate?Follow

Crafting in this game seems a little confusing to me. I find myself looking at one item, which leads me to look at 4 or 5 other things. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually, but for now I wanted to make myself a nice hat to replace the Ugly Helm..er...Onion Helm I've been wearing.

So I thought this Hempen Hat looked pretty simplistic, it's a rank 6 item, supposedly requires rank 11 Weaving to make and I've got Rank 10 at the moment so not far off. The materials don't seem too difficult to get, but I noticed it says it requires "Hatting Training" which supposedly costs 5000 guild marks from either the Weaving, Armorer's or Leatherworker's guilds.

So my first question, is this information accurate. If so, my next question would be how do I go about getting 5000 guild marks so I can make a simple pointed hat?

You can make it without the Training, from what I gather you just get a better chance at succeeding/HQ with the proper training.

As for the guild marks, looks like you start obtaining them from Rank 20+ leves.

For now it seems like you can get around some of those requirements. I've done lots of recipes that had one of those guild rewards as a requirement and still succeeded without it. Maybe having the training makes it much easier? -shrugs-

The guildleve points will come from higher level leves as well as class-specific quests once those are implemented

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.

Thanks for the info, looks like I'm getting a plain old pointy hat. Sadly, that excites me.

The training is not required, however, like sub crafts, and synth support (aka facilities), the success rate of your synth is impacted by the need for that kind of training.

For example, Quick Silver now needs a facility to synth. You can perform the synth without it, however, your success rate is very poor, with it, your synthing becomes much easier. For synths that require a facility you will get a warning (the same as you would get if your sub craft is under leveled) stating you do not have access to the proper facility.

Yeah the 1st time I saw that I was thinking "I should go do that...aww ***** it!" Managed to go 5/5! It was a scary ride though, I think on 2 of 'em I had some amazing "hail mary" type play with very little durability left and ended with 1 instead of 0...wouldn't recommend it on expensive materials...
