I seem to have the opposite problem from most people. Not entirely, but in part I picked up the Collector's Edition because I thought it'd be a nice way to try out the game with a friend of mine whom I wanted to give the buddy pass to, expecting that my friend likely won't want to play beyond the initial month anyway. There's just one problem: She lives a few hundred miles away so I can't just hop on over and hand her my discs.

Does anyone know if SquareEnix has a way to download the game client for a valid account? (I'm curious about this for down the road after my current computer craps out and I've lost my discs anyway)

If not, does anyone have a suggestion for somewhere the entire game might be available as a torrent? We're not trying to do anything dishonest here, just trying to use the codes we already paid for.

It says on the buddy pass to give your friend your game disc with the buddy pass.

And I quote from the Buddy Pass sheet: "1. Install FINAL FANTASY XIV using your friend's game disc.".

Since they never said something along the lines of "or go to <url> to download" I would lean towards there being no official client download at this point in time.

I agree that this is an issue. I was going to Buddy Pass my little brother that lives on the other side of the country. You'd think a downloadable installer would be useful, and seems to be pretty commonly available with other online games.

maybe asking on here if there is someone who lives in the same place as her so that she can use their discs?

Not a bad thought but I'll mail mine to her before asking a complete stranger to get involved.

I was mostly hoping I overlooked something when I was searching around for an answer this morning. And yeah, definitely felt a little dumb when I saw the "install the game using your discs" remark in the instructions.

They should've just said "Have your friend search Google for a torrent of the ISO of the game, and install it".... Kinda funny how even though that's technically piracy, it's nothing but helpful for SE in the end. They probably counted on it. =P

I'm TOTALLY convinced that in SE's attempts to be "cutting edge" and deliver the most complex content known to man...
They totally forget about little basic **** that should be standard. It's kinda funny actually lol. Man do I love them...
